Honkytonk Man quote, courtesy of Kayfabe Wrestling Radio

"You know, there's been other guys; if Tito was here right now, I'd tell him, I hope he's listening. Tito Santana; Oh, you've got to pull my feet, Jimmy Hart's gotta hit me with a megaphone, we've got to knock the referee down. Oh, come on, I took that flying burrito elbow and never said a word about it, 1-2-3. But when it come time for those guys to do the favor, it was like, 'Naw. Can we do this? Can we do that?' There was a couple of times that went on. Yeah, you know, I never ever said anything about any of it until that came up with the Macho Man thing, and it nothing to do with Randy; Randy and I talked about it. It was all about the television thing with 35 million people."

Tito didn't want to lose clean to HTM? Surprising.

I have never interacted with Convoy to the best of my knowledge. I do see the point that you are making, however. Maybe he will. Maybe Tito will confirm it; deny it, or simply ignore it. Who knows?

I just watched a lengthy Tito Santana shoot the other day and I can totally see him saying that. He comes off as a typical wrestler in that he has a bit of an ego and thought he should have been pushed more. Hell he actual seems to believe that it was down to him and Bret Hart to take the world title and be the face of the company after Hogan left, but they went with Bret. "Nothing against Bret though," but Tito thought he was better for that position. That was what Pat Patterson told him. Then a while later in the interview he was saying that he knew it was time to leave the WWF in '93 when they weren't using him "properly" and he was doing the El Matador gimmick, basically losing all the time. Yet he actually believes Patterson telling him it's down to him and Bret, which was basically at the same time.
Then he blamed business going down in the mid 90's on him and the old guard leaving and Vince pushing guys like Bret and HBK. Tito said that business went from bad to worse the more he pushed those guys. Yeah I'm sure business would have boomed Tito in '94/'95 with you on top feuding with Orndorff and Hogan, Valentine and company.
He seems to think that George Scott held him down during the time he was booker and was glad when he finally left in '87 or '88 and Vince and Patterson took over.
I get a kick out of that one. hell Tito has the most success he had in his career and had his best run during Scott's time as booker. Once Vince took over the booking against Tito just went lower and lower down the card.
I'm a Tito fan as a wrestler, but he's as big an egomaniac as the rest of those guys.

That Tito wouldnt take a clean loss to HTM? Have to check my records or can anyone find a video of a clean loss and shut HTM...I'M MAJOR ANTI-HTM FAN(top ten Ive never liked, not an Elvis fan either)....Tito has expressed not wanting to blade either (good looks) which vaguely disturbed me too...Ego, well.....eventually he comes out in the the probably unbeknownst way. I will bring it up to tito see what he says. Or is this a angle ploy by HTM the way Kevin Nash and Rickey Morton did.

I found Honk Tonky Man's facebook page and questioned him (politely) on his quote, but apparently he replied angrily:

HTM(on facebook): Nothing bad to say,, I used Tito as an example. He and I have been friends for 30 yrs. Don't make it something it is not. thanx

HTM should realize after all his years in the business that the gimmick heel is supposed to cheat to win, and also supposed to lose clean when it's time.  The best gimmick heel should never win clean, unless the match is portrayed as a mismatch.  With that said, I doubt Tito Santana liked losing clean because it always seemed like he was being screwed over.  I can't remember too many clean losses, I'm sure there were a lot, but he always seemed to be getting screwed in his matches.

Seems that everyone who "went to New York"' late 80s was going to main event against Hogan, but then something happened. And everyone in the early 90s was going to get the title. Either they are all deluded, or Vince promised everything to get people to sign.

Bit of both. The carny never really dies in the older guys, and I wouldn't expect it to given that they grew up with that sort of mentality. Vince promising a lot to get guys to jump is also plausible, although I think that the pay by itself would have been enough to make a lot of the "jumpers" worry about it other things they were promised a lot less once they got there.

You know what?  People bust your balls on here, and you took the time even still to ask both guys about this...I really appreciate that.  Says a lot about you.

I thought it said "Tito has an Eggo."

I was certain he's not making enough pesos to afford to namebrand waffles.

thanks...after all the shit Ive dealt with in my life, on here and today...its VERY RARE when I feel appreciated. I guess comments from strangers seem more real than people I know because its not patronized ironically.
