Though I knew he had been in declining health over the last few years, I was still surprised by the news.  I had a chance to be around Mad Dog on several occasions over the last 15 years and there was none more vicious in the ring, but everybody's Grandpa out of it.  It's a Dog Eat Dog World, but now a world without the top Dog.  RIP, you'll be greatly missed.

Loved the Mad Dog when I was first introduced to the AWA as an impressionable young lad around 1982 or 1983. Even back then, teaming with Baron and occasionally Rick Martel, I knew his workrate was shitty and his move-set consisted of stomps, biting and kicks, but the dude's personality on those interviews with Okerlund were what drew me in. As a 10 year old, I found Patera and Blackwell to be frightening badass guys, but Mad Dog was a frightening good guy. It was fun to watch.

BTW, Khawk's Mad Dog Vachon set is highly recommended.  I think I'll be watching a LOT of Mad Dog this weekend.

I recently showed the good judgment to acquire the Mad Dog compilation from our own KHawk.  I loved hating him back in the day, and recently came to appreciate  his wonderfulness over the last few years and this comp brought it all full circle.

I am SO wishing I had met him.  RIP and Godspeed.

RIP to an icon from my childhood. Glad his family has a lasting video record of his work to show future generations.

RIP to a true wrestling legend.

Non-wrestling fans know the name, which means something.

Condolences to his family, friends, and fans. I saw him a few times when I lived in Omaha in the early 70's. Great wrestling character and from what I've heard an even greater person.

You will be missed Maurice!

What a character. Scared to death of him as a kid but really grew to like and appreciate him later on. Meeting him several times was certainly tremendous.

And condolences to K Hawk his biggest fan.  KHawk first made that compilation tape to be presented to Mad Dog. I remember when Vachon received it he was absolutely thrilled and couldn't believe that someone took the time to do that for him. After Khawk's hard work in getting that tape together right away Mad Dog accepted our invitation to Chicago. I always credited KHawk for getting Mad Dog to appear at the neighborhood bar.

RIP Mad Dog.
You will be missed,

The only wrestler ever to scare me. Yep little 5 year old clawmaster was terrified of Mad Dog back in the day. The look in his eyes scared the shit out of me. Rest In Peace Maurice.
