All I've heard Watts say was that he cut the loss from $4 million to $800,000 when he was in-charge. I don't think WCW ever actually turned a profit until 1995.

Wiliams and Gordy were brought in under Kip Frey. They were announced as the #4 seed in the NWA tag team tournament and I think had a few matches before Watts officially came in. Once he did takeover, they got the big push by beating the Steiners and unifying the WCW and NWA World tag titles.

I just finished Jerry Jarrett's new book.  It's fantastic.  He gives a pretty clear analysis of what happened to the AWA, WCCW, UWF and Crockett.  His insight is tremendous.

Watts' big hot angle at the time was booking Simmons to beat Vader in Baltimore with no buildup.

It all comes down to whether you believe Jerry Jarrett. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't.

I don't know about that. They did the angle at the Clash in June with Simmons and Race where Harley made the "boy like you would carry my bags" comment and Simmons was sitting out there with Tony Schiavone at the GAB watching the Sting-Vader title match. The title change itself was kinda hotshotted, but I wouldn't say there was no buildup whatsoever as Simmons was being pushed as a title contender.
