One half of a double main event from the Meadowlands sees Hulk Hogan team with the massive Andre the Giant to tackle Dick Murdoch, Adrian Adonis and Big John Studd in a handicap match. The other half sees a bloody brawl between Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka. Mil Mascaras and Paul Orndorff also take part in under card action. Gorilla Monsoon provides the hyperbolic commentary, with some real whoppers along the way.

Have now watched all but the last episode of SMW, they're promoting the "Thanksgiving Thunder" shows, the last four in the company's history. Brining in Jos LeDuc, with (at the time) 15 year old highlights from Memphis TV. Landell brings in a midget to fight Cornette, and Cornette brings in Jackie/Ms. Texas as "Sgt. Rock".

The "Brawl to End it All" sees the WWF present the much hyped Wendi Richter vs. Fabulous Moolah grudge match live on MTV. Other bouts include a hard hitting World title match between champion Hulk Hogan and challenger Greg "the Hammer" Valentine, plus Tito Santana grapples with Bob Orton Jr. in a fantastic clash of technical greats, World tag champions Adonis and Murdoch attempt to upend Sgt. Slaughter and Pvt. Daniels in a fast paced battle, Antonio Inoki defends his Martial Arts title, twenty men clash in a battle royal, and other stars such as Paul Orndorff and Bob Backlund compete in singles action!

A remarkably busy month as Vince snags several more top talents, Bruno Sammartino returns to the WWF after settling his lawsuit with the McMahon family, a non WWF title is defended on TV, more promotions are gobbled up by the expanding WWF, a former World champ is fired, a top WWF heel releases a rock album, Ole Anderson strikes back at Vince for "stealing" his promotion, the Road Warriors score a major title win, Mid-South sees a local favorite turn to the darkside, Memphis runs some mega cards, Florida is dealt a death blow as Dusty Rhodes jumps to JCP, the long Freebirds/Von Erich war settles in on a final battle, and much more!

I am currently on disc 3 of the Mid South DVDR set -

it's OK but I do have a complaint:
most of the matches are arena house shows with no commentary

so although the matches may be "great" (as determined by the smark community) there are no reference points or background info on any of the feuds or workers and shaky arena match after shaky arena match grows tedious regardless of how hot the match is..I like the Mid South promotion and studio TV but this set is "meh"

I've been watching some CCW from 89 that the good principal sent me. It's some good stuff, a young Furnas, the great dr Tom and Detroit Demolition. It's weird seeing Masa Chono working in a small building in TN.

Just watched Wrestlemania I. Why you ask? I'm paying $9.99 a month I might as well watch something being I have no interest in what Daniel Bryan's favorite sexual position is. Interesting old school setup. Lesser matches first. Setting up Bundy a whole year in advance for the next Mania. They made the celebrities a big deal. I thought the sleeper match was Leilani vs. Wendi. They both worked their fat asses off in an action packed albeit short match. Main event was rubbish, Studd and Andre was rubbish. Matt Borne is one of the few guys who can get a bad match out of Steamboat. With all that thought, ultimately I kinda enjoyed it.

You know what's funny..... at the time, my god, the old school guys were having a fit about Wrestlemania and how cartoony things were becoming and this wasn't what wrestling was about, dammit.

You go back and watch that card, with the red, white and blue ropes and the old school feel of Madison Square Garden, and the no-nonsense interviews in the hallway behind the curtain, and no pyro, no TitanTron, no ridiculous entrances or music, no bullshit zoom-in/zoom-out shaky camera on big moves, announcers that actually sounded like they weren't reading a pre-rehearsed advertisement, wrestlers that wore my god white trunks or blue trunks, every single wrestler didn't basically look like the same guy just with different arms tats, no "General Managers" at ringside, ...I could go on.

But, my point is, that original Wrestlemania is a lot closer in concept to Ivan Koloff vs. Bruno or even Bruno vs. Buddy than the difference between today's wrestling and the first Wrestlemania.

I don't know where it fell off the cliff.  I know for me, it was sometime around 2002/2003.  Yeah, I'm with you.  I'll go back and watch stuff from 1985 any day of the week.  I'm an old fogey I guess.
