During the pre-show, the New Age Outlaws won the Tag titles for the first time in 14 years, beating the Rhodes brothers. I don't get that booking at all. Probably a sign of things to come tonight.

Watching this at a buddies house tonite... the pre show with flair duggan and hbk with josh matthews trying to host was wicked out of control, and a commercial for the ppv during the ppv feed in the middle of the tag match was lame... still I was glad NAO won.

A victory lap for the top tag team of the Attitude Era with belts that are meaningless now...
Or, NAO could be modern-day stooges in Authority storyline.

JBL talking trash about Bryan the first part of the match, then almost rooting for him second half is a little disorenting... pretty good match so far and going on close to a half hour

Great match. The crowd yelled YES withevery punch, kick, head butt by Daniel & THIS IS AWESOME & HOLY SHIT.
They might as well go straight to the RR match. No way the other matches tonight can top this one.
The end for Daniel came with Bray outside the ring. Daniel tried a suicide dive thru the ropes but Bray caught him & gave him the Sister Abigail into the barricade,
Bray rolls Daniel into the ring & gives him another Sister Abigail for the pin.

While a short match, tthey did a great job rebuilding brock as a monster, especially when he hit the f5 after taking shows knockout punch... him hittig show with multiple chairs changed the mood imo

I havent seen a ppv in a few months, but the commercials during them still bother me... I don't need to see a hewitt jackson commercial

I wish they didn't always tease breaking up the sheild which they did again with the promo they cut... would be nice to see one group stay together for many years for once

Renee young is good looking but terrible in the backstage interveiwing role imo

Promo by the Shield. They will eliminate the 27 other men
and then it will be every man for himself.

Renee interviews Orton. He says Lesnar & Batista are good but not great & Bray Wyatt is a Duck Dynasty reject.
He (Orton) & only he is the face of the WWE.

I think that's only because of the Royal Rumble and the overall theme of every man for himself

Renee Young's best asset is that she is short and makes everyone else look like giants

Glad I streamed this one - pretty lacklustre show, and the rumble was predictable as hell.

The live crowds are going to shit all over Batista even worse than the Pittsburgh crowd tonight.

It's stunning how out of touch WWE booking seems to be with their own fans. Batista winning (even signing him for that matter) was stupid. Nobody cares about the guy.

They had a chance to elevate Reigns to the upper level tonight, and should have taken it. If you're going to bring back useless fossils, use it to get younger guys over.

They totally shit the bed with this one. The crowd wants Bryan to win and boo Batista out of the building. You'd think they could call an audible of sorts at some point when it seemed so obvious that bringing 'The Animal' back was a failure.

On the plus side there should be some great smark rants on the message boards tonight. Wonder if Jason Kreitzer burned his house down.

The crowd wanted DB in there and have him win it. But they would have popped big for Reigns. They did not want Batista.

But weren't the Raw ratings good last week for Dave's return?

Nash looked to be in good shape. Slow as Christmas but in shape.

Sheamus got a really good reaction.

WWE made it pretty clear that Bryan wasn't going to be in the Rumble. Not sure why so many people convinced themselves he would be in it, much less win.

Does @WWE actually hate their own audience? I've never been so disgusted with a PPV.

So I wake up 40 minutes ago and notice that there is an ongoing WWE PPV. As a Eurotopian I know of people who watch and pay for the PPVs, you can't but admire their tenacity in a way, you just have to laud people who do that for PPVs from 1am-5am. Anyways, so I decided to look at the different board reactions - you gotta keep yourself entertained in the middle of the night so I assume a considerable percentage uses live coverage threads regularily. And like 66% of the posters are just livid. This is some December to Dismember shit going down. So the crowd reactions might be the only reason for me to consider this dreck of a show :D

Live reports coming in that after the PPV went off the air, Batista flipped off the crowd mocking the "Yes" chants, then got in a few fans' faces individually and stuck middle fingers in their faces and needed to be pulled away by security.  As always, Dave keeping it classy.

Lance Storm is having an epic Twitter war with WWE fans, basically saying that they're smarks who don't know business and that they need to stop cheering for mid-carders like Bryan and Zack Ryder and trying to "screw up booking plans".  As you can imagine, this has led to some anger.

@LanceStorm nothing? ok, cool. fuck you. we, the people who dump them dollars are the reason you have internet access. suck my dick.

This WWE Network thing is a smart move. That way, when a Batista-headlined Wrestlemania attracts 38 PPV buys, they can say it's because everyone's signed up to the network instead.

pwinsider.com

On his official Facebook Page, Facebook.com/RealMickFoley, the WWE Hall of Famer and former WWF champion went deeper into detail with his unhappiness over how WWE handled Daniel Bryan at the Royal Rumble PPV:

"As I mentioned on Twitter, I've never felt so disgusted at the conclusion of a WWE (or any) PPV. Like many of you out there, I just don't get it. This Daniel Bryan thing is a phenomenon. You get it. I get it. The fans in Pittsburgh (yes, I was thinking of writing "RIGHT TH...but I'm just not in a cheap pop mood) got it. But tonight, for the first time, I had to admit to myself that the powers that be are just not going to get it. And that makes me sad. I'm just honestly sad, just flat out f------ng sad (yes, I dropped an F-bomb there to emphasize how F'ing sad I am for the guys who bust their butts night in and night out - Ziggler, Punk, Bryan, etc - with no hope of getting their shot at this year's Mania.

You know who else I'm sad for? Me. In my two years as an official WWE Ambassador, I never once had to lie about my enthusiasm for the company or the product. Now, although I am no longer officially an Ambassador for WWE (believe it or not, my only official role in WWE is as GM for Saturday Morning Slam, a contract that ends in one month) I was till looking forward to being part of the biggest event of the year. I'll probably end up going anyway. But I'm about 1/6th as excited about it as I was just a few hours ago. I wanted so badly to hear 75,000 WWE fans chanting "YES" - and seeing fans walk away absolutely ecstatic about the outcome of a PPV for the first time in a while...a long while. But when given the chance to make it happen (unless they've got something MAJOR up their sleeve) WWE's answer tonight was a resounding "NO, NO, NO"."

Note from Mike: Foley, who rarely curses, actually did drop the "F" bomb in his Facebook post. The editing above was by yours truly.

This guy is doing Twitter correctly.

I have to agree with Foley. When the crowd reacts to someone the way they have Daniel Bryan for the last nearly two years, you strap a rocket on his back and see what happens.

Had Vince not listened to the crowd back in the day, Austin, Mankind, The Rock, etc..., could've all stayed in the mid-card and never gotten anywhere.

The problem is that Raw's rating last week was 3.5, it's highest mark in ages, and Batista's quarter did big numbers (because to Vince, quarterlies still matter).  When the casual fans come back, Vince gets excited and decides to fuck over the fans who watch every week because...well, they watch every week.

Another problem is that they blame Daniel Bryan for the low buy on Summerslam. Summerslam was a shit card, at a bad time for a PPV. I know, they always do a buy for SS, but if I recall, this year it was a bit earlier and over the last weekend before half of the country started school.

There's supposedly a lot of heat on Batista for the multiple middle fingers and fan fights he got into after the show when off the air last night.  $10 says that doesn't go anywhere though.  If someone else did that shit, they'd be off TV for a month.

Lance Storm Twitter War in Day 2.  He just won't stop.

I think everyone would be a lot happier if they stopped trying to book the show and just watched and cheered for their favourites.

I was fan in Hogan era. I never liked him, I liked Savage, Bret, Steamboat, Bulldogs. So I bought tickets to shows they were on

@AgentFoo No it isn't. Do you get to say how you want the next Wolverine movie to go? NO! You either buy a ticket or you don't.

If U think Daniel Bryan has been buried, is John Cena being buried? Both lost title matches to Orton and moved to Wyatt Feud.

You also need to realize not being Champ is not a burial. The dude is making big money and very successful. He's not being crapped on.

He is super over with loyal wrestling fans. If he was half as over with casual fans he'd probably get a bigger push.

Dave Scherer rants and encourages fans to send angry Internet messages to WWE.com:

If you read my blog from last night's Royal Rumble PPV, you probably already know that it seems that as he nears 70 years of age, Vince McMahon's ability to hear is diminishing quickly. There is no other way to explain what happened with the amazing reaction Daniel Bryan received at last night's show......well unless the truth is that he is just a stubborn old man that doesn't care one iota what the vast majority of his paying customers want and instead feels it's more important to ram his vision of what the business should be down their throats, now matter how much they reject it.

For those of you that missed my blog (and shame on your if you did!), the fans in attendance made it very clear that they were staunch Daniel Bryan fans. They were as vocal and animated as any fan base I can ever remember. They sent their message of Bryan support during the excellent opening match, where Daniel lost a close one to Bray Wyatt. They made it very clear when they voiced their displeasure at the choice of participants McMahon put in the WWE Title match. They were so loud in their adulation for Bryan that it hijacked the John Cena-Randy Orton bout. The message to all, except Vince himself apparently, was clear. They were saying, "We have seen enough of these two over the last decade, we want something different". They were saying, "How much more do we have to show you who want to see at the top of the card, Vince?"

At that point in time a good businessman, who cared about his customers, would seriously consider changing what he thought was a winning plan. Sure, he couldn't do anything about the Title match at that point, but he surely could change the direction the company goes in as WrestleMania nears. But that didn't fit his plan.
There was a reason Vince put Bryan on first, to get him out of the way. There is a reason why JBL said, during loud chants for Bryan later in the show, that the guy they were cheering for already wrestled and he had lost. He was telling you to shut and realize that Bryan was done for the night. He was not going to be in the Rumble. But the fans wouldn't let it go, to their immense credit.

In the past, Vince could try and explain it away as it just being those "damn internet fans" (and the ironic part here is he launching a Network on that very internet, making all of us that buy it "damn internet fans") but this was an entire arena, not a pocket of people or a small percentage of folks. It wasn't a few, it was everyone. And it was not the first time it's happened either. Hell, just last month the fans shocked Vince by electing Bryan Superstar Of The Year. But he chose not to listen then, or last night. He could have called an audible and put Bryan in the Rumble and given them what they wanted. He gave them a rubber biscuit instead.

WWE Creative can't even make the argument that they are "having the Authority hold Bryan down" because they had him do the ridiculous interview last week where he said he would rather wrestle a guy he had just destroyed in Bray Wyatt than appear in the Rumble with a chance to headline WrestleMania. Anyone who tries to make the argument that WWE is booking Bryan as the underdog because "when he finally gets the win, it will be awesome" is a sucker. Yes, if Vince ever gets his head out of Mr. McMahon and his ass (and I am starting to understand why he liked that cartoon so much) and they push Bryan to the top, people will indeed pop (unless they keep screwing him over for too long and people finally give up, which could happen given the ridiculous way that they book Bryan). And if he reaches the summit, the pop will be loud and deserved. But it will be in spite of the way that they have booked him, not because of it. This is no grand master plan. There have been too many "magical moments" that they have purposely destroyed, beginning at SummerSlam 2013, for this to be the intended course for Bryan. No, the coronation could have taken place already. Vince McMahon, despite the wishes of his fans, just refuses to give them what they want. His vision of the business is right, and if you disagree you can all just go find something else to do with your time and money.

In fairness, last night Vince had plans in place. He thought they would work. Making a radical change at that point would have been chancy perhaps, at least in his view. And there were promises made to Dave Batista when he returned to the company, but that was all before the Royal Rumble happened.

At entrant number 19, fans were chanting for Bryan to enter. And they kept doing so as the match went on. Who did they get instead from that point? How about Torito and JBL! Sorry Vince, that is where you screwed the pooch. Even a novice to the business, which you most certainly are not, knew that the Rumble was not going to end well if you stuck to your plan. It didn't take Nostradamus to predict that.

This led to a downright ugly situation where poor Rey Mysterio had to come out at number 30 and get booed. Not because of who he was, but because of who he wasn't. Dave Batista had a "deer in the headlights" experience as the match came down to the final four and it was clear that if he won, most people would be leaving the show pretty upset at the finish. You had to feel bad, at least in a way, for him as it wasn't his fault that the people rejected him. It was Vince McMahon's for completely losing touch with his fan base.

The end of the Rumble was so sad that all the fans could hold out hope for was for Roman Reigns, who had an awesome night and was booked extremely well, would somehow win the thing so that someone, ANYONE, other than the same old same old would headline WrestleMania (and Vince could have made that audible too). Of course, that didn't happen and no matter how loudly WWE jacked up his music, the boos were still clearly audible as the show ended. Great job Vince, way to go.

To be clear, I don't know if Daniel Bryan at the top of the card is huge money or not, but I do know that more and more of your fans think your vision of the guys in the lead aren't money either. Listen to them.

So this is where we are now, fans stuck following a company that not only doesn't listen to what we say we want, but in fact, seemingly out of spite, goes out of their way to NOT give it to us. Ordinarily, I am not one to start online campaigns but in this case, I will make an exception. I say that the people should be heard, whether Vince wants to listen or not. Go on WWE's many social media platforms and tell them what you think. Click this link and give them your feedback at WWE.com. And more importantly, if you are in Cleveland tonight or in any other televised event going forward, be loud. Disrupt the show. Tell Vince McMahon that while he owns the company, without all of you there is no him. That has always been my motto here at the site and it should be his too. Send him the message. Maybe he will actually finally hear it.

Mick Foley kept his promise and smashed his TV over Daniel Bryan not being in the Rumble.  But that's a pretty small TV so no way is that his main TV that he was actually watching the Rumble on.  He probably dragged up an old one he had in the basement.  Nevertheless, TV smashed.
