Watching some old ppvs on the network and realized this was the first WWF ppv to have McMahon on commentary instead of Gorilla. I Know this was right after Ventura was let go, did McMahon not trust Gorilla to work with Piper or what?  I know Gorilla still did ppvs a few more years but just curious if there was any particular reason he was not on this show?

Gorilla missed a few tv shows around this period also. Apparently he was having a toe amputated

Gorilla had a few health problems here and there that to a great extent went unnoticed or unacknowledged since the WWF bulk taped so much TV instead of the weekly schedule it now keeps. He and Jesse were meant to call the 1988 Royal Rumble, but Vince stepped when Gorilla had, I believe, a heart attack. There are a few odd instances of Vince hosting WWF Wrestling Challenge with Heenan for other health matters. Vince also worked an MSG card with Heenan and Hayes in late 1991, his first in ages, also due to Monsoon having health problems. Gorilla had weight related heart and diabetes trouble. He always came off as older than he was, which was to a certain extent a generational thing, but it was surprising to learn he was only 62 at death. He came off a decade older. He'd be 76 were he still alive.

I've always loved Gorilla on commentary.  One of the best "former wrestlers" offering his view and take on things.  His good guy approach too always seemed to gel with the color man as well.  Gorilla and Jesse are timeless pairing.
