The Dark Starr you have listed in 1995 was from Wilmington, NC. His real name was Andrew Bellamy. He was trained by Nelson Royal and Gene Anderson in the 1980's.

I promise you all those 1995 Wilmington, NC and Wallace and almost will bet the Georgia one as well the Dark Starr was NOT Ron Star but a local black guy named Shakka Zulu (real name) the black Sting, a guy who wears a bath robe to the ring with pockets, not Ron Starr, I was on at least 1 or 2 of those 95 shows

...
Colt Derringer, Tex, and Sam begin working over
"Dark Star" and pull the mask off of him, revealing him to be Rugged Ron Starr!

Edit: So does this mean that Bellamy was Shaka Zulu?

The "Dark Starr" in North Carolina that I mentioned in my previous post was African American so there is no way he could be confused with Ron Starr.

Here is the "Dark Starr' I am referring to. This article is from 1988. The last references I have on him wrestling independent shows in North Carolina (specifically Wilmington) is from 1999. He graduated from New Hanover High school in 1976 so he would probably be around 56 years old now.

I cannot really tell from that picture and if from 1988 may have looked different any way, I am sure he had his name changed to Shakka Zulu so maybe he is Andrew Bellemy, I never knew him as anything else, he is a nation of Islam guy shows up to the shows in suit and bow tie, very friendly, didn't think he was older than me but not surprised. I think he told me he was trained by Gene Anderson and Nelson Royal so that all makes sense. But no one is confusing him for Ron Starr.  I know for sure I was on that Octobter 1995 Wilmington show headlined by Rob Van Dam vs Gorgeous George III (The Maestro/Stro)

Thanks Gentleman for your input so far. As far as whether Ron ever worked as "Dark Star", I will ask him in our next conversation.

Once again, much thanks. :D

Tom Renesto Jr., the son of the original Assassin worked under the mask as the Assassin, although Ron did work under the mask briefly in L.A. as "The Spoiler."

Awesome Stuff Clipcorner!  Some of this is earlier than anything I had found.  Ron said he started his career in late '72 with the Torres brothers helping to break him in, so this is about as early as it gets.  Much thanks for your contribution.  :)

Ron confirmed for me today that he never worked under a mask as "Dark Starr". However it seems as if a different person worked under that name in Georgia than the one in North Carolina as Ron said he actually teamed with him.

The likely reason why a few results identified Ron as Dark Starr? Well, in Ron's words:

"The announcer kept f%@#ing up and announcing him as Ron Starr and me as Dark Starr!"

You're right clip, for some reason I had them both in '75 and '77. Thanks for pointing that out and for the other additions.

Rock: You might check to make sure this is the Ron Starr your writing the book with. There was a Ron Starr that was working with Dale Mann around this time and they worked this area. Just checking. Thanks

Ron Starr (Bobby Nutt) said he was working this area around this time but I will ask him specifically next time we talk if he remembers teaming with Mann.
