WWE has been discussing the idea of giving wrestlers time off to recharge and heal up as a strategy for down the line. There is some trepidation on the part of some, with the feeling that it would make running split-crew live events harder with a depleted roster.

That'll never happen.  Easy enough to give Zack Ryder time off, like the rest of his life, but this would have to be done equally to mean anything, and they will never give the top guys time off.  Injuries are too unpredictable first of all, and the second someone is about to start their vacation, 2 other guys could go down and they'll need him again.  And they're not going to run PPVs without their top talent.  Besides, wrestlers don't think like normal people.  They're paranoid about their spots and desperate to make as much money as they can in a short period of time while they're hot.  They're not going to want to take time off and risk someone else getting more over than they are while they're gone, not to mention losing PPV bonuses and merchandising because their stuff isn't selling while they're off TV.

If it happens (and I think it is a great idea), it would be the most revolutionary change to wrestling probably EVER. It's something that needs to happen. How logistically it is implemented, I have no idea. Obviously everyone cannot take time off at the same time. I like it though and hope they can make it happen.

Most guys are only working 4 days a week as it is, why do they need more time off?

The top guys are who are worked to death, those guys like Zach Ryder and Dolph Zigglers are on the road for four days.

Now I think what would work is to give everyone on rotation like a few weeks off a few times a year. So they can recharge and relax their bodies.

I think the point as much as anything is to get them off TV so that they come back fresh in the eyes of the viewer. Even at four days per week, a guy who is on TV at least twice per week now that the brand split is truly dead will become old hat eventually.

Yes. They wish them well in their future endeavors.

At one point the WWF did keep things quiet after Mania for a few weeks. Later, the former downtime was used for overseas tours. Eventually the nature of the business changed and the money to be made grew to the point that running virtually no shows in North America apart from TV tapings post Mania made no sense.

It comes down to what 'time off' means.

If it is "time to go away and come back 'new' in the eyes of the fans" that's gotta be tough.

If it is just a quality of life thing, to give Cena off for a week every couple months isn't that hard and shows can be pre-taped and guys given off on house shows without much problem.

I like the idea of giving guys time off to heal, but the thought occurs...

If, in typical wrestling fashion, they create an exit scene on television for every guy that is about to take 2-3 months away, eventually...no quickly-they will run out of legitimate injury angles. My hope is that they treat the time off as exactly that. Their shows are badly written as is.

The territories managed to find enough ways to do this with loser leaves town matches etc. Only the top few guys need to written out, too. Most can just vanish with no questions asked.

They don't even need to do that. Has anyone noticed Zak Ryder or JTG hasn't been on for a while? Would anyone notice if The Miz missed out for 3 weeks? It's only the top line talent that would be affected - and they can have them not wrestle for a week or two.

I think Miz HAS missed at least 3 weeks. Point proven.

Is it inscribed in stone somewhere that RAW has to be 'live'? Taping shows would make this alot easier.

Yes. Taped shows in the age of the Internet is death. It hurts Smackdown, and that's why it's the B show.
