I was being facetious before, but honestly I barely see it. The guy with the house to the left of me has a son/daughter both between 7-10. These kids are almost never outside (and I"m around my house more than normal to notice as I'm only doing shifts 3 days a week). The house behind me has a pool. They have 2 sons. The sons are fat as fuck, both early teens and probably weighing 250 lbs each. I see them using the pool maybe 2-3 times a year. Even when I take the dogs out for walks I rarely hear or see kids in the backyards of our neighborhood.

Yeah, those games are as popular as ever.
're: smear the queer. I'm pretty sure they call it "kill the man with the ball" now. But they still play it. Roughhousing outside is still commonplace among kids I'm aroound.
The thing that has really struck me in recent years, in terms of kids playing outside, is that you don't see any kids outside on Christmas. There used to be kids and parents all over outside trying out new bikes, toys, gadgets, etc. Now it's ghost town on christmas day. That struck me a few years ago, and has held true in recent years, from my personal experience.

They called it that when I was a kid too.  The name varies regionally, it has others too, although I'm sure that the queer name has been excised in recent years for obvious reasons.

Yeah, I know the name varies, I just meant locally. I know for a fact the dads, uncles, cousins and older brothers of these kids played smear the queer, but it's obvious why that name faded.

Where I'm at, there is quite a little league that has a lot of kids involved. Other than that, nothing.

Seriously, are you nuts?  You know kids can't use you guns or even point their fingers like a gun anymore.

In my old NJ neighborhood, it was "kill the guy with the ball".  We played that one a lot.

We also called it "pick up and run."

Smear the Queen/Queer?  Kill the man with the ball?  Pick up and run??

I'm from Canada, eh, and I've never heard of these names!  LOLz

so what game is this, one kid with a ball, and everyone tries to tackle him and/or take the ball?

Some what like "king of the mountain" but there is no mountain??

It snows a lot here, eh.

That's exactly what it is. He's either trying to carry the ball to an end zone, or just trying to see how long you can go (I've seen it both ways) and everyone tries to tackle him/make him relinquish the ball. Next guy to pick up the ball is then "it"

HAHA!  Dodge ball rules!  I'd love to have a semi-competitive right now with some other men and women around my age.

Odd, I never recall playing this "kill the ball" game, but I remember basically adding "tackle" into any games we played when we were kids.

King of the mountain was always great in the winter time with the giant 10 - 15 foot snow banks!  Classic.

I remember this old man calling parents to report that we were in a backyard shooting at each other. He was appalled that we were playing with plastic guns, pretending to shoot at each other. I remember thinking how crazy he was , but now we'd probably be shut down quick.
Got my 4 yr old a bunch of plastic grenades off o ebay the other day. He loves the old Lone Ranger show and The 6 Million Dollar Man (toys and show, thanks ebay). I'm basically reliving my childhood with him. We play outside a lot. Superheros, SMDM, Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid, army (lots of plastic guns n backpacks), etc.
Plenty of kids who have caring parents still do this stuff. We will be watching Star Wars in November to set up the big Christmas! I've been collecting Star Wars items for years, so I already have hundreds of dollars in toys ready for him and his 1 yr old brother in the future.
Fun times

We used to play Army/war all the time and shockingly, no one ended-up going to jail in their later years. To me, it was fun to find places to hide or climb up on to.

I see my friend's kids these days and I doubt any of them have ever seen outdoors from beyond a computer monitor.
