During the opening segment of Monday Night Raw, Jerry Lawler referred to both Edge and Christian as being retired.

That was not an error by Lawler. We are told that due to the rash of injuries and concussions Christian unfortunately dealt with during his current run with the company, he's been pulled from the ring and is considered "retired" as an in-ring performer.

We are told Christian has about a year left on his current WWE deal.

I figured as much, since he went out with a concussion again almost immediately coming back from one.

He had a pretty good run for a guy Vince once wanted to have a gimmick where his face as covered by a blue dot because he felt he had a rat face.

Some people bitch about the downside guarantee. But TNA would have given him dick. And WWE will give him a 'legends contract' that will give him a basic income each year. Glad for him that he came back when he did.

It was Vince's call for him to retire. He might un-retire once his contract is over.

He could...but does it make sense to ruin his health in TNA in front of 500 people?  He's made decent coin and never lived extravagantly.  If he's healthy, fine...but if he's become susceptible to concussions, why possibly make it worse?  And, if Vince keeps the guarantee going, Christian will never wrestle again.

Well Vince didn't keep the guarantee for Edge who 100% could not wrestle again. Why would he for Christian.

I just wouldn't be shocked if a year from now he wrestling else where.

Now, from what I remember, Vince did offer Edge a contract and he turned it down because it would have hindered his ability to take acting gigs.
You may be right about Christian.  And a year is pretty good amount of time to get over a concussion.  But I don't know that I would risk it.  It's not like he's a young guy that hasn't made any money.  But Dixie loves him and maybe would take care of him with a deal like Angles, part time work and full time TV.

No Vince only offered Edge a legends deal. Edge wanted a Reg contract. Thats why Edge was gone from WWE for long time.

Christian's a well spoken guy, I would like to see him given a chance at the announce table. Couldn't be worse than what they have now.

The commentators all get worse with Vince screaming into their headsets.

I liked Christian in the "Dark Rising" movie, he could do worse than try something in that field. Wrestling is a mug's game, especially if you've got a chronic problem.

Christian is a nice guy. A while back at a SF convention he would walk the convention floor having his picture taken with fans in wheelchairs and gave autographs to anyone who wanted one.
Too bad about his career ending concussion.
