Falling Water, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, isn't far outside the city of you're into architecture at all.

Thanks. We were kinda looking at the Incline already. Looks cool.

It was really the only thing in Pittsburgh to do.  I think we also did that city's Duck Tour.  But there's not that much going on there.  We hit it on the way to a wedding in East Lansing, Michigan and hit Cleveland (and very, very briefly Detroit) on the way back.

Bumping this old thread.  Looking to do a mini vacation in a few weeks, basically a road trip, and was thinking about heading east from Chicago and seeing a game at PNC Park. Trying to sell the family on this, but Pittsburgh really does look desolate.  Not in a bad way, but honestly there is very little else to do.  I don’t really have any interest in the Warhol Art Museum.  The Incline looks cool, although some of the reviews on customer service make it look like not worth the time.  If the Indians are at home, maybe we can combine this and check off both parks on the same trip.  I just don’t know what we could do in Pittsburgh for more than a day.

I wouldn’t spend more than 2 days there, tops. You use the Incline and go to the top where there’s this really cute neighborhood with bars and restaurants. That’s one night. I’d be hard-pressed to think of what to do the next day. The one thing we missed was Falling Water, the Frank Lloyd Wright house, but that’s not in Pittsburgh, it’s a bit south. You can still drive to it from Pittsburgh though.

Edit: Well fuck, I didn’t realize my own post was quoted here and I mentioned Falling Water 5 years ago. I’m nothing if not consistent.

I’m actually interested in the FLW home. That could be fun. The thing about Pennsylvania is… going east to check out Williamsport or the outlet malls or even on to Phily, it’s like another 5-6 hours. By that point, it’s worth flying. Cincinnati and Cleveland are on the road for the days we would be driving that way, so we can double up. We’ve been trying to visit a BIG 10 schools when we have a chance and getting a photo on the football field (we have Wisconsin, Purdue, Northwestern, and Michigan so far). Maybe we come back through Columbus to see tOSU.

I am in Orlando at the moment and did Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure the last 2 days. Heading back for day 3 this morning to see if I missed anything. We are headed to Cocoa Beach tomorrow to dip my toes in the Atlantic.

What was Universal like? Crowded? Was everything open? Did you have to wear masks?
The wife wants to go and I'm just trying to get a feel for what its like now

We may take my son to Disney and Universal during winter break in February. A lot will change between now and then but I’d be curious to hear how it’s going so far.

Everything is open at both Universal Parks except a couple of restaurants. All rides and shows are running. You do not have to wear a mask at Universal if you are fully vaccinated. It is on the honor system. If you are concerned with social distancing, there is none. I would say crowds were moderate. The Harry Potter stuff was packed, but we were able to ride everything we wanted without using the Express Pass System. We did not go to the water park. Eating in the park was a problem. Lines were ungodly long (I think maybe because of the few that were closed and also the walk through "cafeteria-style" places were converted to order from the app at your table and they bring it to you.

We have been trying to get some last minute Disney tickets to go see the new Star Wars stuff, but have not been able to get a reservation. Disney is limiting entrance to the park and requires a mask for everyone.

**EDIT**

As I was writing this a spot opened up at Disney Hollywood Studios. Will report back!

Were you able to get on the Velocicoaster?  It was in testing phase in April when I stayed there.  Looked smooth and almost silent.

Ok. Just got back from Disney Hollywood Studios. You have to buy a ticket and then make a reservation for the park you wan to go to. As people leave the park, more reservations open up, which happened for us.
All the rides were open and almost all the food. You have to wear a mask if you go into a shop, a restaurant, and while you are waiting in line and on the ride. Walking around you do not have to wear your mask. You have to use the app to order and pay for food and then they text you when it is ready and you can eat inside. Pretty slick.

There were some weird things on some of the rides. You had to leave a space between each party when available. The load lines were also weird too. They would hold you up in 1 spot until the next spot cleared out a bit. However, there were so few people in the park that lines were no problem. Most everything was about a 40 minute wait and the Star Wars area had the most people and the longest lines.

Unlike Universal, plenty of places to grab a snack or drink with little to no line.

We were there a little over 5 hours, rode all the big rides, hung around the Star Wars area and ate dinner at Docking Bay 7.

Hagrid is pretty much mine and my wife's favorite coaster ever.   First time we ever rode it we hadn't watched videos because we wanted to be surprised.   We were in the front row and holy shit I was screaming like a little kid and she was just laughing her ass off.  The only part she got clued in on, and actually learned where the spot was, was when the floor drops out.  We have done that many times on Verbolten at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, but when the floor drops and you aren't expecting it, it can really jam your back badly.  So she found out from somebody what the spot was and we braced ourselves.  All you have to do is lift your ass out of the seat and you are good.  But we loved that ride.  The other ride in that park that I love is Doctor Doom.  First time we rode that we were expecting the slow rising drop tower, so when it shoots you up in the air it was totally different.  We always ride that one too.

Also you got lucky to go through Hollywood Studios on a light day. Since October I've been inside that park three times and it was bedlam and boiling hot. Star Wars is keeping the park packed, and that means on dead days like you had the other rides are much easier. But when it's "too packed", people just bypass Star Wars altogether and ride whatever they can.

Here's a tip: With about 90 minutes left before the park closes, they stop updating the wait times. So with 20 minutes before park close, the Millenium Falcon ride showed a 40 minute wait - with no line and really nobody getting off. Wife and I walked on, after a six minute walk through the empty queue (it's that long, and there are no places to shortcut) we just walked into the cockpit alone. So the two of us flew the Falcon with the other four seats on auto pilot. Don't ever trust that sign at the end of the day, it's always wrong.
