a fringe 80s team here, I know, but the Freebirds of Terry Gordy and Michael Hayes DID capture the Mid-South Tag titles in November of 1979- alas, I had to put them into the GA bracket where they appeared in the early 80s-

The Assassins of Jody Hamilton and Tom Renesto were 12-time NWA Georgia tag champs....'nuff said

Hot damn ~ main event here in the middle of the first round. Love The Assassins but gotta go with The Freebirds Inc. on this one.

Assasins. Again, going with the longevity in the 70's factor.

Assassins. As innovative as the Freebird concept was, and as exciting a team as they were...most of their tactics were imitations of things that The Assassins had perfected decades earlier.

Imagine The Assassins vs. The Andersons in a final round match!

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me
For I must be traveling on now
There's too many places I've got to see

If I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change

That entrance music was great back in the day, so I am going for the 'birds.

Assassins using the old hidden foreign object in mask trick.

this one is the best match of the first go-round

a possible backlash to the inclusion of the "80s" Freebirds?...perhaps but the Assassins just may be the team to take them out in the 80s tournament too

Excellent point Harry but I had to go for the Birds here. They were on top in more territories for a longer time and headlined big show after big show. As great as the Assassins were, they were mostly a Georgia team.

No..they were known more in Georgia because of the TV, but they worked on top in Tri-State, California (WWA), Australia, Florida, Texas, Vancouver.  The Assassins were money makers in every territory.
