His vignettes with Darren Young aside, the guy is a freak of nature.  He picked up a 320lb Hulk Hogan with one arm for god's sake in Philly and Japan (it was basically the same match) and I don't think anybody could do that.

Backlund fan from the apter mags and a few usa/msg bouts in the early 80s. Love watching his old matches vs muraco, snuka, studd, etc

I wasn't a fan of his run as WWWF champion. Saw too much of him I guess. Liked his return as a lunatic though. That was fun. The man is in great shape. Good for him.

Then again, maybe I am putting the blame on Backlund when it should be on the bookers. It was always the same thing. The atomic knee drop was not a good finishing move. I still remember getting cable and seeing the new world of TBS. I hardly ever watched the WWF after that....until I had no choice.
