Arnold - I literally watched that segment last night (they aired it on a Prime Time, I think the 7/28/86 episode).

On Adonis's previous TNT appearance (maybe March or April 1986), he stands up and addresses the rumors by announcing: "yes, I AM GAY"... to a big chorus of boo's from the audience. Jump forward 11 years and Goldust's "coming out" was looked at as a babyface move. Okay, so it was a tease, as Goldust really just "came out" as Dustin Runnels. I think they were trying to capitalize on all the hype of Ellen DeGeneres's "coming out" which was all over the media, at the time. If they get hyper-sensitive, they'll also have to edit out some commentary on matches featuring Brutus Beefcake in 1985 and The Genius in 89-91.

I was pretty young at the time but it took me a while to get that Beefcake was supposed to be a gay character. Other than the name and the fact that they billed him from San Francisco, there really wasn't anything gay about him at all. And he was teaming up with Greg Valentine of all people.

I dont remember thinking brutus was gay either. Adrian street n adrian adonis yes. Lots of wrestlers used the efeminate angle a bit- nature boys for sure but outright LGBT angles only seem to have been the adrians from my viewing days. I havent watched wwf/e since the 80s regularly
