At the age of 45, I will need to cease from lifting heavy weights as I possibly need a total shoulder replacement for my right shoulder. Apparently, I have degenerative joint disease and I will get a replacement or something called, "manipulation under anesthesia with glenohumeral debridement". It's a nicer way then saying your shoulder is fucked up.

It's actually a fairly quick in/out. I see these surgeries a couple times a month. You're in for 1 night to ensure pain is under control. You'll have on an immobilizer for @ 2 weeks and will be totally Non Weight Bearing on it. The tough part will be showering and getting dressed.

Raditch, I've been reading online and it says that there's no guarantee that the operation will work. Would a complete shoulder replacement be the better option? They gave me both to research as they have already told me that I will need one sooner then later. I'm in pain 24/7 now and the 2 shots they gave me did nothing at all.

I'm not being glib or snarky but I didn't even know there was such a thing as a shoulder replacement. Is your injury related to the rotater cuff? Rotater cuff injuries are a common side effect of heavy lifting.

Apparently, degenerative joint disease can be hereditary and my dad ended up with bone cancer in the same shoulder around the same area of it. The Doctor said that no matter what I did in life could have caused such damage to the shoulder at my age. We are going to be possibly pushing for that then the manipulation under anesthesia.

I had my shoulder replaced 18 months ago. Not a fun surgery or recovery, but I'm very pleased with the result.

Oh well, it's not happening yet. My Doctor said that the manipulation under anesthesia won't work for me and he doesn't feel comfortable at my age in giving me a total replacement. He said that he's great at all other surgeries including replacements, he's not good at what he calls "revision" surgery. I now have to go to another Doctor (U of Penn, Temple, Rothman) and start over again. My shoulder is causing me not to sleep and he gave me a steroid pack, which is causing me insomnia. I've been up since yesterday morning and I'll have to drug myself to go to sleep in a few hours.

I ended up drugging myself up so much on Friday that I feel asleep at 7:30 PM and got up at 1PM today.

I think I need to find Kurt Angle and get some of his connections for that Vicodin that he use to take. Actually, I might look into getting some Medicinal herbs for my pain as Oxycodone and those types of drugs don't agree with my system.

I went and got my 2nd opinion and was told by the surgeon that my shoulder is really fucked up. He said that I could either go the full replacement route or something called Hemiarthrophoty with Ream and Run. Now I already asked Raditch about the former and he doesn't know anything about it. The Total replacement means now more lifting weights and after a few days of being depressed about that, I canceled my membership. The "Ream & Run", is a half shoulder replacement in which the Ball of your shoulder is replaced. The catch with the Ream & Run is that you could still be in the pain like I'm in currently and would have to wait 1 year before getting another procedure.

My Surgeon at Rothman will do my surgery. I first have to get my port out of my chest that I had for chemo in 2009. After a month of healing from that, I go back to see him and we can set up a date.

Finally have a date for my surgery for the middle of December. I still have to get a complete physical, Pulmonary visit and EKG done and then I should be good to go. The wifey will be home for at least 3 weeks, maybe 4, as I wouldn't be able to do anything. I just want to be pain free within 6-9 months. Going to go to the ROH tapings in Philly, 2 night after final battle as I won't be able to really go out in a crowd for a while after that.
