I know there are others, influential and celebrated, that imagine pro-wrestling to be a bubble in which the social norms from a bygone era are still relevant and valid. At CHIKARA, we rail against them, and those ideals, with everything we make. It is one thing to speak, to voice an opinion. It is one thing to call for change, to wish for change, to imagine how that change might come about. It is another thing to make it. At CHIKARA, we make it happen. It doesn’t matter to us in the least how many people show up to see it, or how many people recognize it for what it is. Our mantra is not about critical acclaim or pats on the back: “We believe pro-wrestling should be fun. That’s why we make it for everyone.”

Effective today, we are terminating our relationship with Joey Styles. Effective today, we are instituting a zero tolerance policy for misogynistic, racist, and/or homophobic speech, written or verbal, whether it’s directed toward our cast, our crew, or our patrons. This is the shape of CHIKARA.

To all that craft and shape pro-wrestling, we must fully understand this: the patrons of our art form demand more of us. It is to them - those that empower us to create the larger-than-life spectacle of professional wrestling - that we are beholden. Not to an archaic sub-culture made up of turn-of-the-last-century carny values.

The time for us to do away with antiquated and insulting vocabulary, like the term “mark,” is right now.

The time for us to relinquish any last vestige of power we’ve given to outmoded wrestling rhetoric is right now.

The time for us to draw a line in the sand, and to say this is where we stand on equality and integration in our art form, is right now.

The patrons of our amazing art form deserve not just our respect, but our thoughtful presence of mind in 2016 and beyond. We owe nothing to “the business.” The people our antecedents called “marks” are not handing us their dollars because they fail to understand what it is we truly make - they support us in spite of it. They come because they know our kind of live entertainment is a viable art form, not some midway hustle. They come for an inclusive experience where they can be bolstered by a passionate community of like-minded fans.

At CHIKARA, we love pro-wrestling every bit as much as our fans do. We love it so much, we want it to change. Let’s take a step toward a world where we need not be subject to any type of hate speech, and that the only violence we witness is of the neatly choreographed variety.

Could anybody come across as a more condescending douche than Quackenbush does here?

First - there was nothing racist/sexist/misogynistic about what Styles said.  Second, this is fucking WRESTLING...get over yourself.  I've never watched nor will bother to watch CHIKARA, i'm not interested in it, but damn this is annoying!

It's almost like something CM would post.  Has anyone ever invited Quackenbush to join WC?

Is any of this being driven by the WWE? Evolve has a relationship with them and Quack does as well. Not sure about the rest

The thought was that Sapolsky freaked out because he feared it could damage the relationship with both WWE and Flosports.  I'm not aware of Quack's relationship with them.

On quacks wiki it says he has been a guest trainer and done some consulting for NXT. Take that for what you will considering the source.

Really at this point if you ever hope to get a pay check from Vince you need to think about what is going to piss him off.

U cant have your commentators making jokes like that. its not funny and its not the "attitude era" anymore. that stuff was immature and silly then and looks even worse now. The fact that Trump was elected president having actually said that and a lot of other things is a whole other story.

Guest training stuff means almost nothing though.  I appreciate the fact that WWE has these trainers come in (Steve Corino of all people just did it last week and he's under contract to ROH) and I think it's a great learning opportunity for these NXT kids to get different perspectives since the territories don't exist anymore.  But for the trainer himself, how much can it possibly pay and does it lead to anything permanent 99% of the time?  I wouldn't concern myself with that if I was them.

Mike Quackenbush was always a joke and one of the biggest marks in the business

Dawn Marie buries Gabe, SJW Hipster Nerd from Chikara and to a lesser extent Joey Styles.

That was fucking awesome, and she even got in a Dennis Coraluzzo joke at the end. I have a whole new respect for Dawn Marie now.

I disagree.  Commentators, unless fully scripted, have a need to entertain. It's not uncommon to attempt to walk up to a line you have been told not to cross in an attempt to be funny.  If you haven't sat in the seat, you don't realize how easy it is to say something wrong and sometimes being told to not say something puts that very thing top of mind.  I think you can make a pretty good case that what Styles said was not political.  And it's wrestling... jesus talk about an overreaction.  If there is other heat between Gabe and Joey, I bet Gabe is regretting this move instead of say a one card suspension.
