Last time I saw him was the Flair Retirement ceremony on RAW and he wasn't getting around well. Story from gerweck.net

Harley Race, a former multiple time NWA World Heavyweight Champion is reportedly in ill health and has been placed in a nursing home for long-term care.

Sources close to the legendary grappler have said Race is in failing health and has been moved to a nursing home after his care became too much for his wife and family.

Race, one of the toughest men to ever step into the ring, has seen his health decline in recent years. Several serious car accidents helped further his medical issues. Race has become less ambulatory over the years and often had to use a wheel chair.

Longtime friend, rival and Hall of Fame wrestler Ric Flair has become emotional when talking about Race and has gone on record saying Race is starting to deteriorate.

Harley and wrestler Leland Race have gone to twitter to deny the allegations regarding Harley's poor health, despite the fact that he has indeed moved into a nursing home. Gerweck.net has apologized to Harley and pulled the story from their website.

In regard to rumors that WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race has been moved to a nursing home due to his declining health, that story is not exactly accurate.

While Race is currently in a nursing home, it is so that he can receive care and assistance with ongoing physical therapy on his legs while his "son" and student Leland Race is touring for New Japan Pro Wrestling for the first time.

We are told it is not a permanent move and is something that was done specifically so Race, who is extremely limited in his mobility after all the decades of wear and tear on his body, can get the attention he needs for his physical therapy.

That's good to hear. It sounds like it was a responsible short term decision.

Get well soon Harley. How do you get in "several" serious car accidents?

He moved his base of operations from Eldon up to Troy, Missouri (outside of the St Louis Metro area) a few years ago. I used to go to his WLW shows once in a while when they ran this side of the state, but now they barely hit the KC area anymore.

I was listening to Flair's podcast the other week and he did choke up a bit and get emotional that Race was in a nursing home. He kept saying "HARLEY RACE, the baddest guy ever is in a nursing home"..he even said he wishes he could just go and adopt Harley and take care of him himself lol..which is funny coming from a guy who can't take care of his own self, but still, you can't listen to what Flair said without realizing Flair loves the guy a ton and really hates to see him in that condition.

Because he drove like a fucking maniac.  And he never learned.  His career was ended due to a car accident, not long after he came back with the huge abdominal scar...that's why he became Vader's manager.  And then he had to quit being Vader's manager because he wrecked again.

Yeah, Flair told a story once about riding with Harley to an event back in the day and I can't remember what kind of car it was, I think he said it was a big old Cadillac, and they were drinking and Harley was driving like 100, Flair said it scared the shit out of him lol..

Wasn't Harley the guy the NWA sent to Japan with Flair to make sure none of the legit fighters over there shot on him and stole the belt?

And just because someone has been placed in a nursing home does not mean they are dying. That should be clarified. its not always a tragic thing. My grandmother went into one because she could not live on her own anymore. she made friends etc and was actually better off.

Depends on the person.  Hard-headed independent types rarely do well there.  After my grandmother died, my step-grandfather was put in a nursing home by his kids, against his and my family's wishes, and he died a few months later, basically just lacking the will to go on.

Harley being the toughest pro wres fighter ever to lace up a pair of boots will kill tons more nursing home residents than that milquetoast Verne Gagne.
