I know Race hated Kiniski’s work in the starrcade match and I can’t argue with that but Piper wasn’t tommy young himself. Flair v Race starrcade 83 w/ Kiniski as the special ref Hart v Yoko WMX match w/ Piper as the special ref Hart v Backlund WMXI match w/ Piper as the special ref Who do you think was worse?

Kiniski. He turned the Race-Flair match into being all about Gene Kiniski. Piper was rubbish in the Hart/Backlund match but that was because of the I Quit stip. Which Backlund then ballsed up.

This has prompted me to dial up the Race-Flair match, I don't recall Kiniski going into business for himself.

The first time I ever saw the match I immediately thought Kiniski ruined it, and my opinion hasn’t changed the next 10 times. He basically doesn’t let them work because he’s shoot reffing. He keeps stepping between them and breaking up all attempts at action. He’s like the Joe West of wrestling refs, thinking the fans paid to see him enforce rules.
