He just lost in his challenge for the IC title against Ibushi less than two weeks ago. He gets out of NJPW for a bit and lets the title picture breathe some. A change in scenery for him to stretch his legs with so fresh faces would be a win for everyone IMO.
They jobbed Naito to Great-O-Khan in a shocking upset in the 1st round of the NJ Cup yesterday, so that was interesting...
I wasn't aware of that. It appears that they are cooling Naito off so him coming over AEW for a run seems plausible.  The pool of talent is there for him to work with...Omega, Jericho, Moxley, Fenix, Page just for starters.

I don't know how much Naito would mean to the average AEW viewer, maybe more than I think.  I personally would love it.  Some would be very disappointed.
If it's true the average AEW viewer are a bunch of wrestling nerds, then they will jizz their pants if they announce Naito as coming in.  He's got the lineage for sure ...2 time G1 winner, New Japan Cup winner, headlined WK, has one every title in NJPW available except the US and 6 man titles (which are beneath him at this point in his career). Besides, he is 38 and still has gas in the tank. Plus he has had a few minor injuries in the past month and I am sure the less arduous schedule of AEW will give him a chance to heal up that he wouldn't get if he was pushed hard in NJPW.

Christian is locked up to the WWE according to cageside seats

If Zelina Vega winds up being the HOF level surprise then the company should immediately shut down that night.

damn she making at least  400k a year off twitch shit no wonder she bounced with the quickness

I know she was making that, but is she sustaining it post-WWE?  If she can keep up even half of that for another few years then fuck it, she should never take another bump again.

Naito would make a lot of sense. Kenny Omega was an unknown in the US if you didn't follow Japanese wrestling, and he was accepted as a top guy from day one. I doubt that anyone who knew about Omega before AEW didn't also know about Naito and their matches together.

Exactly. That, and the fact that there are few, if any, legitimate future HOF guys out there in the US, is why I was thinking Japan could be where the new signee is coming from.

Naito wasn't on today's NJPW show, selling the leg injury he took from Great-O-Khan yesterday. So maybe there's something to this.

We’ve had KENTA show up on Dynamite last month. It’s not unthinkable for more NJPW talent to show up. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Moxley to defend the US title on a future AEW show either. NJPW cam at least have their belt featured on national TV.

Chris Jericho bashed WWE on his latest podcast for their treatment of Sting and The Big Show the last few years, saying they were disrespected at every turn and then Vince had the nerve to feel betrayed when they signed with AEW. He said that AEW treats legends with respect and seemingly invited other disgruntled WWE legends to come to AEW.

Although Naito is a good guess, if he came to AEW it would be as a loaner. I won’t say excursion because he’s too established for that, but it would be the equivalent. Tony Khan just reiterated that this person is signing a long-term contract. Naito is not doing that. If his contract with NJPW had expired and he was leaving to sign elsewhere, we’d know about it and NJPW would’ve made an announcement that he was leaving.

It's going to be Kurt Angle.

Based on Angle’s social media the last 24 hours it does seem to be him. He was extremely and vocally unhappy with his retirement match being against Baron Corbin so no surprise he wants to wrestle again. But he has nothing left in the tank and is an in-ring death waiting to happen.

Naito was back in action on NJPW's show today, so he's not the surprise. It's technically possible for him to catch a flight to America all night to be there in time for Revolution, but highly unlikely.
