The Savoldis' ICW has always interested me for the mix of talent they attracted, even though they had a high turnover of wrestlers and the TV was wildly inconsistent. I haven't seen a dedicated thread here yet for this curious promotion, so let's get cracking! I've shared these results and line-ups already on Kayfabe Memories. I appreciate any help, additional results/line-ups, corrections, etc.

Sources for the following include the Wrestling Observer, Greg Oliver's Canadian Wrestling Report newsletter (for the 1988 Ontario shows), newspapers.com, Tom Burke's Global Wrestling News Service, Mat Results, and various eBay listings I've run across.

During the fall of 1988 and into 1989 for a while, ICW had TV on Tempo, a now defunct cable network that always had some sort of pro wrestling on its schedule. At one time or another Tempo aired ICW, Mid-South/UWF, Memphis, Continental, and Bob Luce showing old films from the International Amphitheatre in Chicago. In the build up to this card, ICW could not have pushed it any harder than if it was Wrestlemania or Starrcade. There were a bunch of fly ins such as Bob Orton Jr., Tommy Rich, Steve Keirn, Brett Sawyer, Chris Adams, Pez Whatley, and a few more that were billed but may have no showed such as Blackjack Mulligan although he may have been in the battle royal. Apart from wanting to draw a big house, I wonder if perhaps the idea was to have some additional recognizable name to shoot some TV shows that would look more attractive to syndicators and individual stations.

An issue of The Wrestler dated October 1985 (but actually published in August, since the Weston mags typically hit the newsstands 2 months ahead of the cover date, except PWI, which was 3 months) ran a story on the Flair-Schultz match that made the cover. I have the issue and will try to scan it later. For now, I can tell you that the headline was "Ric Flair: I Wrestle the Men Hulk Hogan is Afraid of!". Quite a few photos from the match was included in the article, including at least 2 where you can see Tommy Savoldi (Mario's brother) as the referee.

I don't know if the match ever aired on TV, but I can confirm from the TV shows I have from that timeframe that ICW pushed the Flair-Schultz main event heavily. Dr. D even did a couple interviews on TV where he openly called out Hulk Hogan for being a coward for not giving him title shots (Hilarious, considering Hogan and Schultz worked a number of matches during Dr. D's WWF run) and praised Flair for being man enough to face him. The ICW was always eager to namedrop other promotions and wrestlers on TV, especially with their open-door policy and how many other territories they worked with early on.

Tamalie, I can confirm from the 12/26/88 issue of the Wrestling Observer that ICW was also planning to have Mike Graham and Adrian Street on that Augusta card. The item that ran in that WO issue listed all the fly-ins that you brought up and which made the taping. It would be cool to see ICW TV from that timeframe, per your recollections of seeing their shows. Many of the matches from the Augusta show are out there, some on YouTube, even.

Going back to the 1988-89 ICW shows on Tempo, it was a studio setting along the lines of Prime Time Wrestling although with much poorer production values. The hosts were a British guy named Brian Bristol and a heel ref named Tom Fornini. The two actually had some decent Monsoon/Heenan chemistry together while chatting between the interviews, matches, and various clips. When the battle royal was being built up, they had Bristol with his tie off and collar unbuttoned while at a whiteboard going over who was and wasn't going to be in the big battle royal for the taping in Augusta, ME in late 1988. They treated it like the NCAA Basketball Tournament Selection Sunday with wrestlers after bids and some guys being on the bubble. The matches on the show came from various tapings and sometimes the original announcers would get dubbed over to make an older match seem new, such as when Kevin Sullivan and Mark Lewin faced Blackjack Mulligan and Joe Savoldi from a match circa late 1985 or early 1986 that was presented as if it was happening in late 1988.

I wonder where they got Brian Bristol from. As corny as he was he did a fairly good job. Brian Webster came on board in the IWCCW days and got to communicate with him back and forth over the years. Good guy. I'm curious as to how long Gordon Solie and Les Thatcher were involved. I think Gordon lasted a single taping but I'm not sure 100%.

Brett, thanks for the extra clippings! That 11/28/92 Hamburg, PA show looks horrible. Aside from Joe Savoldi, there isn't a single name on that show that I would've paid to see wrestle. The IWCCW years were reduced to a roster of WWF castoffs, no name goofs, and embarrassing gimmicks (Curley Moe, anyone?), with only a few redeeming names (Ray Odyssey, the Tazmaniac, Joe Savoldi, Tommy Dreamer, The Billion Dollar Babies being among the good talent that worked in the IWCCW years). I much prefer the 80s ICW myself.

Regarding ICW/IWCCW announcers, Les Thatcher had 2 runs for the Savoldis. Les Thatcher was actually the first PBP announcer used when the promotion started running full-time at the beginning of 1985. Les was there until April/May of 1985, by which point Gordon Solie took over for a few tapings. Gordon called the Portland, ME tapings and was with the Savoldis through the summer of 1985. Les returned sometime in the fall of 1985 and was paired with Lou Thesz. Thatcher and Thesz called the action until early 1986 (January or February 1986), and were then replaced by Rich Landrum (yes, the same one who worked for Jim Crockett) and King Curtis Iaukea. Personally, my favorite ICW commentators were Les Thatcher and Milt Avruskin (best known for being the English-language PBP guy for International Wrestling from Montreal, and earlier as George Cannon's sidekick on Cannon's Superstars of Wrestling from the mid 70s up to the early 80s). Milt actually called some tapings for ICW in the summer and fall of 1987. I wish he'd stayed on, but since he was from Toronto and mainly worked on TV documentaries and other TV ventures for Canadian TV, he didn't last too long.

The following card line-up is from a poster shared here on Rob Elder's old blog, Ontario Wrestling Clips and Pics (Independent Ontario Shows)

ICW @ Bay Shore Arena Auditorium
Owen Sound, ON
Sunday, October 16, 1988
Att: About 100, per Rob Elder
Start time: 04:00 P.M.

Double Main Event - Lumberjack match with 10 men around the ring: Mr. U.S.A. Tony Atlas vs. The Dungeon Master
Six-man Tag Team Match - Jumpin' Joe Savoldi, Vic Steamboat, & 550 lbs. Giant Gustav vs. Super Destroyers I & II & Boston Bad Boy
ICW Junior Heavyweight Title Match - Eric Sbraccia (C) vs. Local Portuguese Sensation Carlos Mattis
Ladies' Title Match - Miss Heidi Lee Morgan vs. Whip Woman
Indian Sensation Chief Gatorwolf vs. The Thing, from World Class

Tickets: $9 advance, $10.50 at door, $7 for children 12 and under; tickets available at Sam the Record Man

ICW also promoted a show in Lindsay, ON on October 17, 1988, but I cannot find any results/line-ups in Greg Oliver's Canadian Wrestling Report for that show. The November 1988 issue does mention that locals Chico Fernandez, Johnny K-9, and Mad Dog Rex were hired to tour the regular ICW circuit. The December '88 issue of CWF mentions that local promoter Chris Drury had a falling out with ICW and that Drury was planning to promote further shows on his own. ICW was supposed to link up with Aaaron Weiss Productions to promote future Ontario tours and acquire TV on TSN.

I thought I'd post this as it's IWCCW related. In 1999, the Savoldi's started Ultimate Professional Wrestling which was promoted as ICW's sucessor. I remember watching their TV show a few times on America One and was a mixture of current stuff with matches from the archives of the Savoldi's World Entertainment Network (WEN) video library. They had dates at least for shows in the Northeast but not sure if the took place. Here's the UPW website via Internet Archive/The Old Net

I found these line-ups posted on Wrestlingdata. No idea who supplied these cards or where they were found, but the first one looks great. A Bob Backlund-Dory Funk Jr. main event at a Pennsylvania high school? Sign me up!

ICW @ Stroudsberg Area High School
Stroudsberg, PA
February 25, 1985

Bob Backlund vs. Dory Funk Jr.
WWC Universal Heavyweight Title Match: Carlos Colon (Champion) vs. Black Gordman
The Sheepherders vs. The Invaders #1 & #2
Killer Tim Brooks vs. Victor Jovica
The Rock 'n' Roll RPMs (Mike Davis & Tommy Lane) vs. The Super Medic & Ray Apollo

ICW @ Orangeville, ON
August 15, 1988

Chris Evans D Nick DeCarlo (This is the only match listed. I have to question whether Orangeville, ON is the correct location, considering that the ICW ran a show there 2 days later)

I was able to flesh out the following 3 cards with info from watching some ICW TV shows I have from September 1987. Apparently all 3 of these cards were TV tapings. The Bangor show had a bunch of no-shows, with the original combatants listed in parentheses. The Iron Sheik-Butcher Vachon match result came from a Wrestling Observer.

October 09, 1987

ICW Tag Team Titles: Tom Brandi & Mike Kahlua (C) d. Paul "Butcher" Vachon (sub: The Boston Bad Boy) & The Mad Russian (Davey Gee)
Joe Savoldi d The Super Destroyer (sub: Fabulous Phil Apollo)
Tony Atlas DDQ Iron Sheik (sub: Dr. D David Schultz)
Midget-giant tag team match: Giant Gustav & Sky Low Low D Man Mountain Mike & The Amazing Martine (Listed as Hillbilly Mike & Little Martinez in the commercial)
Tickets: Bangor Auditorium, Sandi's Downtown

ICW TV Taping @ Rockland High School

Hey Brett, I saw this lineup on a poster that someone shared to Mike Kaluha's Facebook profile. The poster advertises the date as a Saturday. February 11 fell on a Saturday in 1989, so that is most likely the correct year for this taping. Nice find! :)

WWF agent Rene Goulet accompanied Santana to the building. The Bushwhackers were also advertised for upcoming IWCCW shows)

I have a few additions for the 2 cards above, based on data from 1991 Wrestling Observer issues.

For the 08/13/91 Somerville, NJ card, Nikolai Volkoff replaced Rick Rude and won his match against Tony Atlas by DQ

For the 11/10/91 Somerville, NJ card, Joe Savoldi beat Pat Tanaka and Koko B. Ware beat Tony Atlas by count-out.

Couple quick additions for this taping per Wrestling Obsever from 1991: Tony Rumble appeared as Atlas' manager for the first time and Ivan & Scott Putski also worked the taping.

At last I've been able to locate the original clippings for some of the ICW cards I shared in the first post of this thread. So far I've found all the Lewiston, ME shows in the Google News Archives that I originally typed up 5 years ago on KM. Here's the clipping for the 03/13/87 show. Still looking for the clipping with the results

A bit of title history uncovered. Article says Robbie Ellis won the ICW Junior Heavyweight Title on 2/8/87 in Sarasota, FL defeating Brian Walsh. My guess is that it was a ghost change.

This card has been shared in the AWA thread but not this specific clipping. Even in their backyard ICW receives second billing to the AWA, but not surprising, given the lack of ICW names on this show. From the Lewiston Daily Sun 08/15/86.

The Sheepherders are listed already against the Invaders. I think the Kangaroos were Don Kent & Johnny Heffernan but I'm not positive

An interesting fan report on the ICW that appeared in the June 1985 edition of the Mat World newsletter. The bulk of the report focuses on a Carlos Colon-Dory Funk Jr. main event at a high school card in Methuen, MA on 02/26/85.

I finally found the clip with the results for the 03/13/87 Lewiston, ME card! This was published in the Lewiston Daily Sun (not the Lewiston Journal, which usually ran clips for ICW shows), March 14, 1987.

Rich Palladino on the ICW/IWCCW Facebook group just shared a handwritten lineup for a show that was scheduled for Boston but sadly cancelled. Another member, David Fournier, recalled seeing the Boston show hyped on TV and said that low ticket sales may have caused the cancellation. It's a shame, because the lineup looks quite impressive!

ICW @ Hynes Convention Center
Boston, MA
May 06, 1985

Universal Heavyweight Title Match - Dory Funk Jr. (champion) vs. Carlos Colon (challenger)
Angelo Mosca vs. Abdullah the Butcher
The Rockers (Joe Savoldi & Al Perez) vs. The Sheepherders (Crazy Luke Williams & Butch Miller)

The Tonga Kid vs Kevin Sullivan went to a double count-out

Does the program specifically list this as Webster?

The Lincoln Park Ballroom that was part of the Lincoln Park Amusement Park in North Dartmouth, MA used to hold wrestling fairly regularly. The WW(W)F ran spot shows there prior to expansion, and later AWA/Pro Wrestling USA and Killer Kowalski used the venue. I'm thinking this ICW show was run here.

I have an update for the August 12, 1986 ICW/AWA show, courtesy of a clipping posted by Seth Hanson 4 years ago on the AWA & WWA American/World Wrestling Associations Facebook group. I've amended the results based on the original lineup (we now have the venue and some additional info on 2 of the matches).

AWA/ICW @ Asbury Park Convention Hall
Asbury Park, NJ
August 12, 1986
Start time: 08:00 P.M.
Att: 1,700
AWA Tag Team Champions Buddy Rose & Doug Somers D The Midnight Rockers to retain the titles
Jimmy Snuka D Boris Zhukov
Col. DeBeers D Scott Hall by DQ
Larry Zbyszko D AWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel in a non-title match
Joe Savoldi D The Pink Menace
Nord the Barbarian D Dennis Mitchell (sub: Curt Hennig)

Tickets were $12 Ringside Reserved, $9 General Admission and available at the AP Convention Hall Box Office, which opened at 12:00 P.M. on the day of the show.

$100,000 Winner Take All Battle Royal featuring Tyree Pride, The Mad Russian, The Hillbillies, Rusty Brooks, Bugsy McGraw, Polish Power Ivan Putski, Big Ox Baker, Jack Hart, Austin Idol, The Terminator, Del Apollo, Cowboy Mike Kasey, and ICWA Heavyweight Champion Jumpin' Joe Savoldi

ICW TV Taping
Monticello, NY
February 17, 1988

Featuring George Skaaland, Maurice Pride, The Dungeon Master, Joe Savoldi, The Cheetah Kid, Gustav the Giant managed by Sky Low Low, Mike Kahlua, Tom Brandi, and Tony Atlas

I finally have results for the 12/26/86 Palmetto, FL card, which came from a recent Between the Sheets episode (covering the week of December 22-28, 1986). Hosts Kris Zellner and David Bixenspan read and discussed the show as well as ICW in this timeframe. I'd love to know where they found the results. I suspect that these results are incomplete, given that there are only 6 other matches with results given (with 12 wrestlers total) besides the battle royal. I'm not sure if the Mad Russian, Ox Baker, Bugsy McGraw, Austin Idol, Mike Casey, or Uncle Elmer made this show.

ICW @ Manatee Civic Center
Palmetto, FL
December 26, 1986

Ali Pasha won a 17-man, $100,000 Battle Royal
Rusty Brooks D Bubba Johnston (sub: Ivan Putski)
Phil Apollo D ICW Heavyweight Champion Joe Savoldi (non-title?)
The Terminator D The Grizzly Bear
Cousin Junior D Bobby Brooks
Ivan Putski D Verne Henderson
Ali Pasha D Johnny Pavros

Jack Hart vs. Tyree Pride was scheduled but cancelled

I finally located a clipping for the January 17, 1985 card in Portland, ME! I found this lineup on Google Newspapers last night while browsing the Lewiston Daily Sun archives. From previous research, it appears that the LDS sometimes ran ads for ICW shows in Portland, ME, which makes sense since both cities are 31 miles apart. I'm sure the Portland Press Herald had more detailed clippings/articles, so when I make it to Portland to research the ICW, I'll check the PPH archives at the library. This appeared in the 01/14/85 LDS. I posted the results for this card (from an issue of Bob Closson's Mat Results newsletter) on the first post for this thread, but I'll share them again here with the necessary updates.

Good find, Buff.   You inspired me to take a shallow dive into Maine newspaper research, which I have not had great success in previous tries.   Ever since I did an imitation of the fisherman from the Larry's Lobster-Mania slot machine and was chastized by homer Yellowdog for hasty generalizations,  I tend to tread lightly.
I found a preview article for a show already listed from 1/16/93 in Biddeford which gave me a Greg Valentine non-appearance to add to his record book.

You're kindly welcome, OFG, and thanks for the laugh with your story about imitating the Larry's Lobster-Mania fisherman! Thanks for sharing these clippings. I'm surprised to see a Savoldi show in Maine as late as 1993, as they were mostly promoting in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania after 1991. I look forward to anything else you can find!

Thanks a ton for finding the date on that Delhi, NY taping, OFG! The Wrestling Observer from April 16, 1990 reported that the ICW held TV tapings in Delhi, NY and Charlestown, MA in late March '90, but didn't provide the dates. Dave Meltzer's correspondent for that info mentioned that the Delhi taping drew a $6,000 house and the Charlestown event drew $7,000.

I returned from my Portland, ME trip this past Thursday after doing research on the ICW and found a bunch of ads to share! As you'll see, the promotion name was originally International World Wrestling Alliances (IWWA) and remained that way until February/March 1985. Here's an ad for the first show that the Savoldis ran under the IWWA banner, at the Portland Expo Building on September 27, 1984. This ad ran in the 09/23/84 Maine Sunday Telegram (the Sunday edition of the Portland Press Herald).

Two of the scans were too large to upload to the boards, so I've copied links from Facebook where I posted them on the group I run. Here's an article on the September 27, 1984 Portland Expo Building show that talks about the Savoldis running their own promotion, the matches on the show that night, and some other details.

IWWA grapples for corner of Maine ring, Portland Press Herald, 09/27/84.

Finally, we have a Sports Bulletin Board notice and an ad for the May 08, 1985 TV taping that ran in the Press Herald on the same day of the show. Notice that the promotion is referred to in the Bulletin Board as the International World Wrestling Federation (IWWF) and Dory Funk Jr. is billed as IWW Champion, yet the ad uses the name Championship Wrestling. Here's what was advertised for the TV taping:

The match between The Tonga Kid and Tony Rumble from the June 5, 1985 tapings should actually be included as a part of the May 8, 1985 tapings. The disqualification comes from Kevin Sullivan and The Fallen Angel interfering in the match.

Kevin Sullivan and The Purple Haze are listed as having two matches against Tom Brandi and Chauncey Johnson on the December 28, 1985 tapings. I'm pretty sure this is an accident. One of the matches is actually Sullivan and the Haze against Chris Gallahad and Tom Brandi.
