Organizations over the years have always wanted them to change their team names and logos. With everything that’s going on, do you think they change their team names? I can see them caving under the pressure.

Ultimately I'm not losing sleep over this, it just seems hypocritical and that many people jump on these bandwagons with no real idea why. They seem to have nothing better to do with their time. I think maybe the people who are part of this crusade to change team names, street names, school names, the names of food items and the tearing down of monuments should look down at the Nike products on their feet, their clothing item labels, manufacter stickers on their electronics and other household items and see how many are being made by slave labor this very moment.

I’m far from a scholar but I feel like the educational system has failed everyone. People aren’t willing to have conversations anymore they just want to yell, throw things and try to cancel people. It seems like it’s all feelings over facts and ok for me and not for thee moral policing nanny state. For the record I don’t care about team names. They should reset all of the team names in every sport and make the owners and league pick between the state bird, state plant or State insect.

It will eventually happen. Not sure how. Thinking of a way the government could get involved ….. but that's 'how' it happens.

If it doesn't happen this time, it will happen soon. There's no way they can go another 5 years with those names. This becomes a huge issue almost annually, and it gets to the point where it's not worth fighting anymore. Native Americans already came out years ago and said they don't care, but white liberal guilt is all-encompassing.

Add the Texas Rangers to that list (the law enforcement agency namesake enforced Jim Crow laws and the like a zillion years ago).

Good for them. Geezus. The Texas Rangers are Nolan Ryan, Hank Blalock, Mickey Rivers, Josh Hamilton, Toby Harrah, Kevin Brown, Juan Gonzalez, and Jeff Burroughs. Get fucked with this shit. The name "Texas Rangers" is a baseball team and nothing else at this point. I'll give you the Redskins at this point. I think my Blackhawks are fine because it's always been a honorary name for an actual tribe.

Chicago Blackhawks or as they were known when founded as the Black Hawks were named for an infantry division(86th)in Ww I. The logo for the club has passed muster with Native American organizations as it is not a caricature. The team has never employed an "Indian" as a mascot, or used one in advertising. It's almost a textbook example of how to use an image of a Native American and present it with respect and the dignity it deserves. I can't see the name ever changing but who knows. There should be no need. The thing that puts the Redskins in a bind is that the team is considering replacing FedEx Field which was among the first in the new generation of stadiums when it opened in 1997. The team made notable sacrifices in location, design, construction materials, and the construction process as part of an ultimately failed attempt at getting the stadium completed in the lifetime of the team's late owner Jack Kent Cooke who died a few months before it opened. Those shortcuts combined with some poorly thought out and executed renovations by the subsequent Daniel Snyder ownership have accelerated the stadium's decline in comparison to the many that have followed. Snyder is said to look at AT&T Stadium in the Dallas-Forth Metroplex with a great deal of envy. FedEx Field was built in Landover, MD following failed attempts at building in Washington DC's Virginia suburbs which is where the team's HQ and practice facility are located. Most of the players, coaches, and staff live in that part of the metro area as well. Ideally the Redskins would build there or closer too it were a new stadium to be constructed. For the latter option, there has been talk of going back into DC proper. RFK Stadium stood for years after, hosting DC United of MLS and other events like concerts, as well as a brief stint as home of the Nats. DC United relocated to a new stadium a couple of seasons ago. RFK has now been shut down and is increasingly in derelict condition. The mayor of DC and other politicians in the city would love to get the Redskins back in town with all parties eyeing the RFK site. Daniel Snyder is willing to finance his own stadium in order to have full control of the revenues. The problem is the Redskins would need construction permission to build, probably some tax breaks, and infrastructure improvements that typically fall to local government because they benefit more than just the team and stadium. DC political leaders have painted themselves into a corner with the Redskins nickname, stating they won't approve construction unless the team gets a new name. There isn't a way for them to go back on that pledge without looking really bad and jeopardizing careers in the case of some of them. Snyder has dug in deep on keeping the name. If the team wants a new stadium, it won't be there due to the nickname unless one of the two sides compromises.

It should be left alone, but it won't be.

Has any tribe ever stated approval for the Blackhawks name and logo, specifically one in Illinois? The approval of local tribes is how Florida State is still the Seminoles and Utah is still the Utes. For that matter, the lack of approval is why the NCAA compelled North Dakota to change from the Fighting Sioux to the Fighting Hawks. Pro sports are different, but if the Blackhawks were looking to keep the name, that would be an avenue. However, it would need to be persons and groups with legitimacy. When the Indiana sports nicknames controversy was much hotter a few years ago, the Washington Redskins brought out some Indians to endorse the name or at least say it didn't offend them. However, these people were almost universally regarded as nobodies who spoke for no one and whose words carried no weight.
