Lindor still a FA after 2021, right?  Mets didn't give up much here, but it could be a one year rental unless the new owner breaks out the checkbook.

I'm going to say 90% an extension is already done.  This new owner isn't bringing him in for one year.

The Yankees having a big day, re-signing DJ LeMahieu for 6 years and getting Corey Kluber.

Looked like they were also getting Brantley, but he re-signed with Houston...although they did sign Kirby Yates who led MLB in saves 2 years ago.

Looks like the Rockies are sending Nelson Arenado to the Cardinals for a boat load of money and 4-5 minor leaguers.

Daniel Murphy retired today. He had a spectacular 2015 postseason with the Mets, hitting a home run in 6 consecutive postseason games. He followed that up with 2 really strong seasons for the Nationals in 2016 and 2017, but was never the same after needing knee surgery the following year.

Dustin Pedroia has mercifully announced his retirement after years after injury issues.

The biggest free agent available this off-season is finally spoken for.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the Trevor Bauer sweepstakes
MY NEW HOME!https://t.co/1gKAOSwY3w
— Trevor Bauer (トレバー・バウアー) (@BauerOutage) February 5, 2021
Bauer confirmed the deal himself with a YouTube video on Friday afternoon.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reports the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner's deal with the reigning World Series champions is for three years and $102 million with an opt-out after each of the first two seasons.
Trevor Bauer's three-year deal with the Dodgers is for $102 million guaranteed -- and for $40 million in 2021 and $45 million in 2022. He can opt out after each year, meaning he'll make $40M if he opts out this year, $85M if he does so after 2022 and $102M if he stays all three.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) February 5, 2021
For much of the past 24 hours, it was believed that the New York Mets were in the driver's seat to capture Bauer's signature. The 29-year-old right-hander had the best season of his career by far in 2020, pitching to a league-leading 1.73 ERA over the course of 11 starts. Last season was Bauer's first in Cincinnati after coming over in a three-team deal with Cleveland and the San Diego Padres the previous summer. It was the second time in his career that he had  been traded, going from the Arizona Diamondbacks to Cleveland in December of 2012. He went on to pitch in Cleveland for seven seasons, tallying an ERA of 3.89 in over 1,000 innings. He was named to the All-Star Team in 2018 for the first and only time in his career so far, finishing the season with a 2.21 ERA in 175.1 innings. Bauer was selected third overall by the D-Backs in the 2010 MLB Draft out of UCLA.

The best player on the market ends up with the World Champions. Not sure how I feel about that, but it's nothing new in baseball. I guess it used to be the Yankees who would make these type of signings 20 years ago.

Once Steinbrenner died, the Yankees became almost laughably frugal considering how much they rake in.  They're making moves this offseason, after a disappointing 2020, to ensure they're nowhere near the luxury tax.

Bauer’s first-year $40 million payout is more than the entire team payroll of the Pirates.

Coincidentally, the last Cy Young pitcher to leave as a free agent and sign with the World Champions of the previous season...?
(saw this trivia on the MLB Network scroll tonight).
Anyone want to take a stab?

I assume Cone or Clemens based on the Yankees connection.

Edit: Just remembered Cone was a trade so I’ll say Clemens.
