I am looking for any information on the whereabouts of Argentina Zuma between 1961 and 1964. He seems to vanish in early 1960 and doesn't show up anywhere again until 1965 (based on my searching on this forum, wrestlingdata and cagematch) I am trying to solve the identity of a masked wrestler and Zuma's name has come up in conversations where I've asked people to throw names out so I can 'eliminate' them as suspects. Thanks in advance for any info. And if anyone has more info on Zuma's career, such as any signature moves or holds he used and how his relationship with Pfefer was, that can help as well.

Zuma was, I believe, legitimately from Argentina. I've searched the newspapers, and he wasn't anywhere in the US or Canada at the time. Perhaps he just went back home. The Zuma name was known around the country, so I don't see there was any benefit of him wrestling under a mask for 4 years.

I'm trying to solve a real, actual mystery (the identity of a masked wrestler; there's more to the story but I'm being intentionally vague), and Zuma's name came up as a long-shot possibility so I'm trying to get proof of his whereabouts so I can exclude him.

My first look at Zuma came in 1966 when he returned to Jim Crockett Promotions. He was basically a smaller version of Antonino Rocca. He did all the same moves as Rocca did here in 1963 and Argentina Apollo who would later come to JCP in 1970. The one thing he did that I don't remember seeing Rocca or Apollo do was after he would down his opponent with 3 or 4 quick dropkicks or escape one of their holds, Zuma would stand in the center of the ring with his feet and legs tightly together. Then with the upper half of his body it looked like he was dancing the "Twist" to a Chubby Checker record. Last edited on Tue Dec 29th, 2020 02:50 am by CW Hall |
