I can't believe I, or anyone else, didn't mention him earlier.  How many more seasons does he keep his 50+ goal streak alive if he stays healthy?  It was still a freewheeling era for another several years, but the Islanders were on the downslope.  Maybe he and Lafontaine create magic, however.  I can see him getting to at least 12 straight years, and 15 isn't impossible.

He is sadly under-discussed when talk of the great goal scorers of all time come up. Truly a pure goal machine.

Bossy's the only guy to have 10 consecutive 50+ goal seasons. Not Gretz, Not Lemieux, Ovechkin etc have ever done that.

Bossy was my favourite player growing up, and I always chose 22 as my number. Teammates always assumed it was for Rick Vaive

And in 5 of those seasons he hit the 60 goal mark.

Lillian Board, beaten on the line to Olympic gold in the 400m by someone who ran two seconds faster than her personal best. Was screwed by the lane draw; as fastest qualifier she would these days have been in lane 4-5, but drew the inside.

Was already a red-hot favourite for the 1972 Games; the only question was in which event, given she could do every distance from 100m to 800m. She won two golds at the Euros in 1969, against the Soviet shemales, setting a world record, and in the 4x400 relay running down the woman who beat her to gold in 1968 from ten yards behind.

And then she was diagnosed with the colorectal cancer which killed her in 1970. Aged just 22.

If you want to factor in DEATH (the worst injury of all), then you'd have to include Thurman Munson and Roberto Clemente.

Clemente was 38 when he died, and already had Hall of Fame credentials. You could argue that we would've played 2 or 3 more seasons, adding about 200-300 hits. He was starting to slow, due to nagging injruies. But 90-110 games per season would've been reasonable. He was the World Series MVP in 1971, and looked pretty good at his "advanced" age.

Michael Irvin - still in his prime when he got hurt in Philly.
Jay Novacek - thought it was merely a minor injury after their last Super Bowl season, but he never played again and retired.
Travis Frederick - perennial Pro Bowl career cut short by Guillan-Barre syndrome.
Terrell Davis
Sterling Sharpe
