HALL OF FAMER
I get the impression AEW figures any hype or furor over Jericho appearing on a WWE show will only help them by raising fan awareness of their product. In general AEW doesn’t seem to have concerns about its guys turning up elsewhere. From the WWE’s standpoint it gets some attention during Mania week and builds a bridge with Jericho to someday come back.
The #2 should never concern itself with things like that. They are behind WWE and NJPW in terms of global awareness so any opportunity to inhabit those spheres are a positive. WCW was always so dead-set on "beating" WWE that it eventually killed them. Even when WCW was #1, they were #2 in terms global brand recognition. Hulk Hogan would be called a "WWF wrestler" in major news outlets even in 1998 when Nitro was doubling Raw's ratings. The general public had no clue what was going on. It was a petty and short-sighted approach. I guarantee that most of Jericho's mainstream fans from music and just those who have a general awareness of him think he's still with WWE. If he can say AEW enough times in the right places, maybe it starts to sink in, so yeah this is not a bad think at all for Tony Khan. Hell, he should go on Impact and brag about this being the ultimate "Forbidden Door" move.
As the #1, I'm still surprised that Vince is going along with this, but as I mentioned above I think it's all about making the transition to Peacock successful so that they want to buy the whole thing. He is 100% in a business mindset now and the product is a complete afterthought, obviously.
This thread was great before AA ruined it.
