Ken Doane, best known as Kenny from the Spirit Squad, announced his retirement today.  He's still only 35 years old and said he planned to retire at 40 but made smart investments and is now set.  I hope that's true because that would be a great success story for one of the top WWE prospects of the early 2000s who was wasted as badly as anyone ever was.  This one still boggles my mind when you think about his talent and what they did with him.

So I get your point to an extent. But if he's as good as some people think, why didn't he become a big deal after WWE? Not in TNA, ROH, or Japan.

I remember watching some OVW from 05/06 and he and punk and Brent Albright were tearing it up! I thought for sure he’d be something on the main roster. Until the Spirit squad debuted....

If you had told me he retired 10 years ago, I wouldn't have argued with you.

Ken Doane was only 19 when he got called up from OVW. He was considered the can’t miss prospect in the WWE developmental system. The problem was he wasn’t mature enough which caused some attitude issues. He was portrayed as the star of the Spirit Squad and was protected to an extent his partners were not. When the group ended, he alone was kept on the main roster and briefly was aligned Edge and Randy Orton. That was quickly dropped and he got relegated to the undercard until he got cut.

He must have really burned his bridges because he never got brought back to except for a quick two or three week stint with Mike Mondo to redo the Spirit Squad gimmick when someone feuding with Dolph Ziggler wanted to mock him. For perspective, he’s younger than Roman, Strowman, Styles, Riddle, McIntyre, Kofi, Owens, Zayn, Jey Uso, Miz, Morrison, and Sheamus. He’s only two weeks older than Big E.

Kenny Doane was hired by WWE today as a full-time coach at the PC.

So much for my dream of seeing one more comeback, this time doing a ninja gimmick as Ken Doane Agasaki.
