Not quite a flash in the pan, but when Michael Chang won the French Open aged 17, it looked like he would win a dozen more majors. And he was one and done.

In football, the Everton forward Mike Trebilcock - surname pronounced "tre-BILL-coe" by the BBC's prurient commentators - only played a dozen games for Everton in three seasons. One of them was the 1966 FA Cup Final, in which he scored twice.

Tessa Sanderson was a javelin thrower who represented Britain in six Olympic Games and three World Championships. Her only medal came in the 1984 Olympics - when she won gold with her first throw. Britain's only gold in a throwing event. To say it was a surprise is an understatement; she wasn't even the best in Britain at the time.

I think he made it to a couple more grand slam finals, but lost both times.

Winning the French Open, however, made him a god in the Chinese community for quite some time, until maybe when Yao Ming or Linsanity came along.

Joe Charbonneau was the first I thought of. Didn’t think it was fair to add Fidrych. Not long after Charbonneau you get Ron Kittle, 83 AL ROY with 35/100/.250. Looked really solid. Then pretty much right down the shitter. Not long after Kittle you get two first basemen that were supposed to fuel two classic teams for a decade: Sam Horn in ‘87/‘88 and Kevin Maas in 1990. Enough said about those two.

Bianca Andreescu might end up on a similar path to Chang if she can't get past her injuries. Seems like the poor girl is hurt literally all the time, and the odd matches she does play when she is pronounced "healthy", she hasn't fared great. Then she gets hurt again.
Shes still ranked high in the WTA but she's gotta get rid of that injury bug.
