Ok lets suppose that the Gooker debuts and doesn't lay an egg (did I just write that?), what's next? It was Hector Guerrero in the suit so they obviously had someone who could go in the ring and could perform as a high flyer (cue Arthur Carlson).
I've read plenty of stories about this as being one of the worst concepts ever but I can't recall reading anything about what the long term plans were.

I don't see how he could've had real matches in that suit.  He did some flying headscissors wearing it, which was impressive enough, but he's never having a 15-minute match against an upper-tier opponent even if the gimmick got over.

About six months later, WCW did a deal on one of their syndicated shows putting Brian Pillman in a chicken suit, then running into a match involving Barry Windham and flying off the top with a crossbody. It seemed almost like a test run for the Yellow Dog character but maybe it was all they had ready to see if Pillman could work in a silly costume. The Red Rooster had come and gone, but birds were the word back then.

I think the Gooker was supposed to be a mascot like the San Diego Chicken.  With that being said, a few years later Vince tried to put some guys dressed up like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the ring and the fans were not having it.  You just never know.

The turtles were Dwayne Gill and Barry Hardy, apparently it was a Dwayne Gill idea. That might have been their only tag team victory in WWF...

I finally saw the match as a Hidden Gem on WWE Network last year, but I don’t believe the Hidden Gems were ever migrated to Peacock, so it’s gone.

I think the concept from the start though was that the Gooker was just going to be a seasonal mascot for Survivor Series. I mean, he was literally coming out of an egg. A San Diego Chicken type of thing. There’s not much more you could do with a guy in a Turkey costume.

I'm sure they envisioned t-shirts, stuff animals, action figures, etc. had the Gooker been well-received.

They brought the Gooker back, the next year, to cut a pre-recorded promo with Koko B. Ware to sing about the Survivor Series PPV. Thankfully, neither one was on the 1991 PPV.

When the Gooker hatched, I remember Roddy Piper saying: "lookit the kids! They love him!"...and the camera showed one kid with a pouty face. When the Gooker went to the ring, one kid yelled: "no! Get down!"

The whole segment made "Amanda Ultimate Warrior" on the Brother Love Show seem like epic TV.

When Mean Gene first introduced the Gobbledy Gooker I remember hearing silence then boos.

A kid at school was saying that it was King Kong Bundy coming back. I thought that was possible and Bundy would be repackaged as the Eggman.

I’ve read “SD Chicken” multiple times here and I have always believed that Vince reached out to him and couldn’t come to terms (because “The Famous Chicken” was extremely protective of his copyright) so he decided to make his own version. Hell, I’ve thought like this since getting the VHS tape, during the live broadcast I had no clue what the fuck that was, probably just like the rest of you. I can imagine there are some of you that were 8 years old when he hatched out of that egg. And you probably laughed. But you knew it didn’t belong there. At least Red Rooster, TL Hopper, and Abe “Mickie Knuckles’ Balls” Schwartz were just shit gimmicks…Gooker was a shitty unsustainable gimmick.

Back then I was excited for pretty much anything wrestling, but thought what a dumb name the Gobbledly Gooker was. Then everything else happened. And the previous ppv, SummerSlam, Roddy Piper sounded heelish at times, but here he was cheering the Gooker on.
All those weeks watching Superstars with that egg being shown and this is what we got lol. Decades later, I appreciate one good thing about the segment, it's got Gene.

Another wrestler that Vince McMahon wasted on a stupid gimmick.

After Guerrero did it a couple times they trotted the gimmick out with others over the years for a while did they not?  Mostly donning the costume to interfere in matches.

In late 2018, when Drew Gulak was doing his dorky (and awesome) Powerpoint character on "205 Live", he used the (new) Gooker costume as the "Gobbledy Gulak-er".

I think the "new" Gooker costume surfaced circa 2000 and is somewhat different from the original.
