And you can buy beer at 10am on Sundays now.

10am? When did that change? Shortly after I moved there I tried to buy a bottle of wine to make red sauce on a Sunday and was told I had to wait till noon.

Until very recently, you couldn't buy alcohol in Scotland before 12.30 on a Sunday. Supermarkets in the cities always had their own little queue of alcoholics twitching and sweating, holding their cans or bottles checking their watches every five seconds. Then there'd always be a bit  of argument when they thought it was time. "You have to wait until the clock on the till says it's 12:30!" Sad thing is, they probably bought extra because of this, but drank it all. Scotland has a big problem with the drink.

It's still 12.30 on Sundays here, 10.30 all other days.

What specifically is wrong with their gun laws?

Basically that there are none. Any yahoo can open carry with no permit or training.  It’s the wild west out here.  The new beer/wine sales hours went into effect on the 1st.

Living on the border of two states, liquor laws have had to constantly evolve as stores on either side of the border would lobby to get hours changed so they wouldn't lose out.

Missouri allowed sales from 6 am to 130 am Mon-Sat and it was 9 am on Sundays. This changed 2 weeks ago when Sunday also went to 6 am.

On the Kansas side on Sundays now it's 9 am to 8 pm. It had been Noon as of May. So when you have people like me who live 10 minutes from the border, it draws people to the MIssouri side with the more flexible hours.

See this is the thing.  When you "crack down on rape", whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean anyway, this is EXACTLY the image these types have in their head.  There's Chalky White, may he rest in peace, jumping out of the shadows to impregnate a white woman like it's a Harper Lee novel.  In reality, "cracking down on rape" is a SJW thing that usually involves all this #MeToo shit, much of which is ridiculous for different reasons, and it has nothing to do with what Governor Pencil Dick thinks it does.  This is not a path anyone wants to go down, but you can bet that it's the poor and the blacks who will be used as sacrificial lambs, at least until the skeletons in his own closet are unearthed.

Texas isn't alone in having constitutional carry. I was actually surprised they didn't already.

I don’t really care about people having guns.  I grew up with and have been taught how to use and handle them.  What I do care about is people simply strapping them on their hips without any idea of what having a gun on your hip actually means.   It means that you better know what the fuck you are doing and Texas is showing itself to be sorely lacking in that department.

It's a constitutional requirement for there to be proper regulation. Says so right there in the Second Amendment.

Permit less open carry has gained a lot of traction across the nation (20 states I believe now) in the last decade with a few more on the way so I'm not surprised it made its way to Texas. Of the 20 states that allow it I've spent a lot of time in Arizona and it didn't seem especially out of control but Texas may be different.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.

Those 6 words do not overrule the words shall not be infringed.

This has been addressed a million times, and well regulated militia for the 1700s does not mean what you think it does.

You're thinking with a 2021 brain.  The meaning of "regulate" in this case refers to the process of bringing order, method, or uniformity.  There was no way for a militia to be effective, i.e. regulated, if no one could get their hands on arms until the moment of necessity.

I'm thinking of it with an 18th century brain. Which is the only way to interpret the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The dudes who drafted this were all immersed in Latin. They were trying to re-create the Roman Republic, hence a Senate, a Capitol, and even a city of Cincinnatuses.

And those first few words are an English version of a literary device called an ablative absolute. Which in Latin is something of a condition precedent. Everything which follows is based on those first words being accurate.

So the whole non-infringement is based on there being proper regulation. If there is proper regulation, the US Government cannot stop the right to bear arms in toto. If there is NO proper regulation, then it can.
