The final episode of the "old" NXT before next week's re-launch did just 601,000 viewers.  Not counting the shows that were bumped to SyFy due to the Olympics, this is by far the lowest number since the Mar. 17 episode did 597,000, and that blamed on St. Patrick's Day.

The interminable segments following the hen and stag dos for Lumis/Hartwell did not help. God bless Indi and Grimes, who are doing their absolute damnedest with utter shit, but there is no rescuing that abomination.

During a commercial break, WWE promoted the new NXT on the Titantron during last night's Smackdown at MSG and it was booed out of the building.

Seems like a work to get the belt off the old, fat, indy guy for the reboot.  Certainly there's a construction worker out there with 2 years of Division III football who's more deserving.

If Joe is really continuing to have medical issues, it's time for him to walk away.

Yeah I'm thinking it's a work (and a lousy one) but if he his problems are reoccurring he should pack it in and move into training and/or commentating , which he's pretty good at.

Seems like a strange work, because Samoa Joe passing the torch would be a perfect way to usher in a new era of NXT. If it's about the new type of wrestler they want, then what do they do with the booked #1 contender match? That wouldn't presumably now be for the vacant title. The only guy in that match with the kind of size that Vince is looking for is LA Knight, and he's right on the minimum requirement and 38 years old. I don't see any of those 4 guys (Knight, Pete Dunne, Kyle O'Reilly and Tommaso Ciampa) having any main roster potential.

PWInsider:

Samoa Joe is not expected out of action for an extended period of time but there's no word yet as to when he'll be back. We are told the decision to strip him was not a creative one but what was stated, WWE medical made the call, so the decision was made to strip Joe and crown a new champion tonight, trying to turn a negative into a positive by having the coronation of the next WWE NXT Champion as part of the NXT 2.0 broadcast.

There is no word whether Joe will be at today's taping.

Behind the scenes, there is a lot of trepidation among NXT talents going into tonight's taping. There had already been a lot of stress and concern among talents after the last batch of releases, since the feeling among many is that talents who did "everything they were supposed to" and/or were "great talents" were released, leaving some of those who remained that PWInsider.com has spoken with feeling as if everyone was now on thin ice and that even if they did the right thing, it didn't matter and their runs could be over at any point with no notice. While that was always true, there had previously been a feeling that they were in a protective cocoon of sorts thanks to Paul Levesque, but that feeling was ripped away obviously.

The fact that Paul Levesque will likely not be at today's taping due to his recent medical emergency has also raised concern as there's a feeling among some talents that they don't know what they are walking into today and don't even know if it's going to be Levesque's regular team running the taping or others from WWE. There is a great sense of unease among many talents as they wait, like everyone else, to find out what exactly NXT is supposed to be going forward, as a product.

The call-time for today's taping was moved up earlier than usual because of it being the first live broadcast in several weeks and with everything planned, including pre-tapes.

WWE NXT is slated to be live all through the remainder of September and October, PWInsider.com has confirmed.

I agree, i thought they would have Cardell Hayes use his stip and beat Samoa Joe for the title before i heard about the injury but yeah does seem strange

I don’t know what’s worse, the white boy rap song or the rainbow vomit that makes up the color scheme.  And the set looks like a cross between a ‘70s studio show and WWF Primetime.

We have to start putting this in the conversation for worst WWE shows ever. So many generic characters were introduced and all looked awful and I literally don’t know any of their names. It was an endless parade of jobbers to me. It almost seemed like Tough Enough and tryout matches. I don’t see how any current NXT star can think he has a job much longer after this.  It was a total reboot.

It's not like there isn't a place for a show like this. People need somewhere to practice and try out new stuff. In-ring it's gonna suck. Green wrestlers doing WWE punchy-kicky style isn't going to be fun to watch for two hours. It's pretty much the same concept as AEW Dark (although Tony is paying me to tell you that Dark is way better). But... WWE are getting money from USA for this show, but this isn't the show they paid for. Will the ratings hold up? Will USA be happy if they don't? Will they change the format to make USA happy?

USA thought they were getting Finn Balor and wound up with Von Waggoner (who I hear is Wayne Bloom’s son). There must’ve been at least 15 new faces introduced in 2 hours, either in a match, backstage segment, or vignette. No one stuck out at all, not that it would be easy to stick out in that situation. But some seemed lost. And with all those people on the roster, Vince had the nerve to go up to L.A. Knight and say, “You’re jobbing TWICE tonight, pal.”

They seem pretty high on Bron Breakker, given his win and it looked like he was challenging Ciampa at the very end of the show. This is another example of taking things away from someone though. The Steiner name means a lot. Debut him as a Steiner, bring out his dad, and the guy is instantly over. Instead you get the singlet and an inside reference on commentary. Kushida vs Strong next week will seem very out of place. Two small guys having a great match, with neither having a chance on the main roster. I'm not as down on the show as you are, but it has zero chance of hitting the NXT highs, and I doubt this format will be successful in ratings. I'm not sure where Amateur Wrestling Soprano came from. It sounded like something from promo class that was never supposed to make TV.

I had no idea that was even Steiner. I had just heard they were going to call him Rex Steiner, which would’ve gotten over much more, but Vince must’ve vetoed it at the last minute. But he just came across as another guy. Almost all the new guys have amateur wrestling gimmicks too. Not even an attempt at diversity.

If you listen to him, he sounds a lot like Rick, and generic commentator #7 said he had the attitude of a dog-faced gremlin.

Von Wagner is Cal Bloom, Wayne's son. You also saw the debut of Bull Buchanan's son as one of the guys who lost to Imperium.

I also have to say, the wedding was quite entertaining. It would have probably got a very nice crowd reaction if there were more than 12 people in the audience.

I didn't have any perspective on this as I rarely have watched NXT.  Aside from a new hair color and style, what has changed?    Looks are all subjective but my own perception is unchanged; it isn't a Jillian Hall situation where she had a gimmick disfigurement and it was eaten away by the Boogeyman.

I found it interesting because I thought someone had removed a Rick Steiner head from an action figure and replaced it with this Bron Breaker guy.  Even before the Dogfaced Gremlin reference, he was doing a tribute to his dad with much the same energy and mechanics, and wearing the singlet was a bonus, so reading who it was in a recap just confirmed what I was thinking.
And on the topic of Rick Steiner's physique, it was surprising to see him a few years ago in Waterloo receiving an award, as he had dropped so much mass that he wasn't instantly recognizable.  He got into real estate and was a school board member last I recall, and had clearly left the ring days behind him...although he did go up to Canada to wrestle the Hannibal TV fella around the same time, and hid his whole body with black ring gear like one of the Assassins.

The make-up was caked on and just not flattering as well.  Of course attractiveness is subjective, but she was an incredible natural beauty before, and last night just didn't do anything for me at all.  I'm sure she'll lose sleep over that.

When Bron Breaker (what a godawful name) came on the screen, I got my wife and asked her if she could look at him and guess who he might be related to. Without hesitation, she said. he is definitely a Steiner. The genes in that family are strong as fuck.

For his sake, I hope they give him a chance to learn and develop before thrusting him into the title picture like they were hinting at the end of the show.

I liked it , I dig the retro vibe of the show, the promo and presentation style.

BUT i wonder how is B Fab been with WWE for 3 yrs and looked so horrible last night in the ring she has a good look that you want from a female wrestler but man that match was rough and it was only a minute long

Some people complain that Excalibur gives too much back story on wrestlers (I don't agree). In NXT, we're just supposed to accept that these people popped into existence yesterday.

If this show was on the Network, as a developmental level below NXT, this show would be fine. Let people learn and make mistakes in front of an understanding audience. But this is national television, and it can only really appeal to the super-hardcore we-love-everything wrestling fanbase, which is very small. It's a long way from being must-see.

I'm watching this second episode now. That set looks like garbage. You can't take it seriously when it looks like a children's Saturday morning TV show from the 90s (might be a UK thing), with a similar sized audience. However they did the lighting for Full Sail, it never looked this bad. That place looked like a wrestling venue. The Lucha Underground building also looked fine, but this looks terrible.

One reason why AEW took off so quickly, and TNA never did was that AEW looks like a real wrestling show filmed in a real arena. When you shoot in a TV studio, it looks low-rent. There's a reason WWE created the Thunderdome, because it looked crap in the Performance Center.

Are they using a smaller ring for NXT 2.0? It looks like it's smaller, but the ropes look higher.

Poor Kushida ends his WWE career getting punched in the face by a woman.

I wouldn't disrespect made man Tony D'Angelo if I were you. He's no fugazi mafioso. You might end up in Lake Michigan wearing concrete shoes.

He cut another promo about his family.

That promo was like watching a cartoon. I was flipping between the Jays-Rays game and NXT and I get this shit. Nxt 2.0 leads to Enforcer Luciano 2.0. BTW, Wagner looks like a Caveman with his protruding forehead.

No. I just don't see him getting any kind of push now that Vince is in charge of NXT. 38 years old. Small guy. English isn't great. Everything is working against him.

You could say that for a ton of people. Roderick Strong beat him for the title last night, but i don’t see how he has a future at his age and with his lack of size and personality.

But he's in a stable with people they want to push. Will they even keep the CW title if they don't want any small guys?

Tyler Rust was in the same stable.

One reason why AEW took off so quickly, and TNA never did was that AEW looks like a real wrestling show filmed in a real arena. When you shoot in a TV studio, it looks low-rent. There's a reason WWE created the Thunderdome, because it looked crap in the Performance Center.

The set itself looks atrocious.  Way too busy and distracting.
I don't see the size of the performance center as a problem. TV studios worked very well for Memphis  and a number of other promotions all those years and it was one of the best aspects of the NWA YouTube show. The current facility is closer in size to  say the say Irish McNeil's Boys Club , which was a great atmosphere for wrestling.
The layout isn't the problem.  It's rebooting a product that didn't need one. Titan Tower killed anything unique about the promotion with the reboot. Promos are as atrocious as the main roster. The doubling down on backstage skits...ugh.The only bright spots for me are the announce team and a handful of talent.

I disagree i liked it and more interested in the new NXT then i was the old NXT....

and I think it was smart to get away from the original NXT 2.0(this new reboot is really 3.0) that people loved because AEW does it better with the alternative to WWE style that Triple H wanted NXT to be.

but also with the tribalism wars going on right now(AEW vs WWE) and the fact that wrestling fans complain about everything especially WWE related ...it is taking away this might be the best 2 months of exciting wrestling in US since the end of 98..

Before moving to USA, NXT was actually more indy-rific than AEW, at least the Takeover shows.  The Revival vs. Ciampa and Gargano actually was better than the more hyped FTR vs. Young Bucks matches, by a lot.  I haven't enjoyed modern matches in 30 years as I did some of that stuff.  NXT only got watered down once Vince realized he owned it.

After ring wing sites such as FOX News and the NY Post wrote articles on Joe Gacy’s new mock-woke character, who talked about safe spaces and male privilege, WWE has deleted the promo from YouTube, Twitter, and just about everywhere else. So they’ve had an immediate reconsideration into going into controversial territory and have probably killed the gimmick after 1 week.

That can only mean the character was supposed to be a babyface, and was supposed be woke, not mocking the woke. If he was supposed to be mock-woke, getting coverage on Fox News is exactly what they should have wanted. In fact, it should be beyond their wildest dreams to get mainstream coverage for a debuting 2 minute promo.

There is no way that character was supposed to be a babyface.  It was an over-the-top Right to Censor gimmick, but maybe WWE just has no idea how to do that anymore.

But I don't even recognize their old names...

WWE has finalized new ring names for the following talents, PWInsider.com can confirm:

*Joseph Fatu is now Sefa Fatu.

*Jennifer Michell Cantu Iglesias is now Yulisa Leon.

*Jessica Woynilko is now Tiffany Stratton.

*Sanjana George is now Vish Kenya.

I would love to see a wrestler whose whole gimmick is being "woke" and going full tilt with it. Let his initials be SJW. His finisher could be Cancel Culture. Transition moves and high spots could be called things like Stunning and Brave, Male Privilege, the Patriarchy. IT practically writes itself.

Just let him be smug and obnoxious like certain poster over at a certain other message board but have good ring skills. Crowds would eat that shit up and would love to see a guy like that get his ass kicked.

Joey Ryan and Rob Van Dam formed a tag team in Impact called Cancel Culture, right before Ryan was canceled.

These honeymoon skits involving Dexter Lumis and Indy Hartwell…why? Just why? Who could this possibly appeal to? Who’s shooting this and is like, “That’s the take. That was perfect. Gold baby, gold!”

And what was with “shit” being said twice on the show without bleeping? They’ve decided to make NXT the adult brand, just as they’ve broken out the romper room set?

I tried to watch this week's show, but it's very hard to care when everyone is so unknown and so green. I had to laugh when a Samoan named Quinn came out. You can't tel me that these names are anything but picked at random.

Well, Elektra Lopez is Karissa Rivera, whose father Juan Rivera wrestled for the WWF as Steve King. At least in her case you could see there was a generational precedent.

It looks like a local cable TV show.  It can't be much different in terms of presentation or match quality than Booker T.'s indy Reality of Wrestling or something like that.  It actually reminds me a bit of Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.  You still have a handful of holdovers like Kyle O'Reilly and Pete Dunne who wouldn't know how to have a bad match if they tried, but they are making it really, really difficult to watch to get to those guys.  And one of the few good workers left, the heart and soul of the brand for years, Johnny Gargano, no longer wrestles and instead is involved in cringy comedy skits where he's trying to make sure the condoms are well stocked.  There's too much wrestling on for me to watch this garbage much longer.  If I don't have time to keep up with Dark or Elevation, then I don't see how I can justify watching NXT at this point.

This week's show was absolute garbage and I feel so sorry for the good number of fully trained wrestlers who have ended up being dumped in this wrestlers' kindergarten.

I'm also 100% that there are plants in that audience to get the fans to make some noise.

Just awful, and I won't be watching again.

I watched another dumpster fire called the Yankees last night instead, and not sure if I can sit through this as well.  I've suffered enough.

I’m 45 minutes into NXT and we have 2 botched finishes where it looked like there were kick-outs and 1 legit injury where a girl killed herself and needed to be removed from the match. This show needs to be moved to public access.

They just had 6 women, few of them experienced, have a ladder match that ended in at least 3 of them almost dying at different points. This show has become more irresponsible than bad. These kids should not be continually put in situations they’re not ready for. If Cornette bashes AEW botches, what the fuck is he saying about this show?

I thought the NXT crowd had some plants to lead the crowd, but it seems not. From Trent Osborne at bodyslam.net yesterday:

The negative reaction to MSK from the NXT crowd has been a topic of discussion amongst fans since their debut this past January.

A recent Reddit post that has been making the rounds on social media suggests that the reason the current NXT Tag Team Champions were getting such a nasty reaction was due to a tweet that Nash Carter, one-half of MSK, had made in 2018 criticizing a spot that included a 13-year old Izzy taking a choke-slam at an Indy show. Izzy, who you may remember as the “Bayley fan” that Sasha Banks made cry during the Banks/Bayley 30-Minute Ironman match at NXT Takeover: Respect, along with her parents have been very prominent figures in the NXT community for years. The post alleges that Izzy’s parents held a grudge against Carter and got a group of very vocal NXT fans to boo the team mercilessly whenever they would appear.

I not only can confirm that this rumor has been floating around the NXT community since at least February, but that numerous sources close to the situation have told me that it is true.

Sources say the parents, along with a contingent of fans they convinced to join them in the negative reaction to MSK, were asked to move away from the hard-camera side of the arena due to the group visibly booing the team on-screen. “Go back and watch NXT before Takeover: Stand and Deliver, their posse is [on] hard cam every show.” one source said. “After [Takeover] a decision was made to move them off hard cam because of the booing of MSK, but by then the crowd had been ingrained to boo them because “it was cool.”

The group cannot be seen in their usual spot in the audience in the episodes of NXT following Stand and Deliver, and reportedly moved to a corner of seating away from the main camera’s view following the event.

One source even said that they had overheard a member of the group, that was not Izzy or her parents, suggest that they should chant “Your dad’s dead” to Carter after the NXT superstar had been vocal on social media about the 12th anniversary of his father’s passing in February. NXT officials were reportedly notified of the comment by a nearby audience member.

Former NXT and current IMPACT, Ring of Honor, and NWA star Chelsea Green seemed to confirm that she had suffered the same treatment from fans Thursday on Twitter:

[Cut and paste issues here, but there is a screenshot of a Chelsea Green tweet that has her saying: "Lol yes, it did actually. Numerous times. It sucked!" replying to a question from a private account so I don't know what the question was exactly - Kriss.]

Green was also critical of the choke-slam spot on social media, along with many others in the business such as Lance Storm, Lince Dorado, and her fiancé Matt Cardona.

MSK is currently in the midst of a 197-day reign as the NXT Tag Team Champions.

Confirmed by Meltzer:

"I got a couple of versions of the story but the version going around is basically correct. I think the short version of it rather than go into big details of people say in line is that there are people there, including the parents of Izzy, who are mad because in 2018 Zachary Wentz before he was Nash Carter when he was an independent wrestler and others including Lance Storm and Chealsea Green made comments that were negative about Izzy taking a chokeslam at an independent show when she was 13 years old… so Carter shows up at NXT and her parents start the crowd to go against him and they got a lot of friends and everyone knows everyone. There’s like 200 people there and they’re pretty much all invited and it’s the same people every week…”

“It’s enough of those people that they’re booing them. They’re gonna boo MSK, that’s their deal so that’s the basic story on why. It’s not like it’s some organic thing. It was enough people that they can make it boo because it’s such a small building.”

I think they’re talking about the old NXT. I didn’t notice anyone booing them in NXT 2.0.

Ladder match also suffered from typical ladder match booking.  I.e. someone scoots up six rungs of the ladder then stops just where they can't reach the belts.  And waits there until someone stops them.  What's the kayfabe reason for not taking two more steps and having an easy task?
Was made worse in this one by having two ladders - a short one and a tall one - and having them use the short one when the tall one is RIGHT THERE.

The botched spot that apparently got the most attention was from MSK vs. Imperium lumberjack match. There was a cutter off the top rope to the floor where the lumberjack rookies parted like the Red Sea and the MSK guy landed hard. Matt Riddle tweeted that they should all “be beaten with sticks” and backstage the reaction was reportedly very negative towards the lumberjacks.

In discussing the spot, Lance Storm said the key isn’t to dive into a pile but to dive unto the one guy you trust to catch you and to hope that everyone else helps that guy out. He said there didn’t seem to be anyone trustworthy out there though.

These poor women in NXT. Barely out of wrestling school and they had to try and work a three way adder match without dying, now they are putting them inside the WarGames cage. Good luck to them, you can't blame the workers, but let them learn to walk before making them run.

This week’s NXT drew 574,000 viewers, the 2nd lowest rated episode ever on USA (not counting the shows switched to a different network due to preemptions). Even worse, in the 18-49 demo, NXT lost 26% of its audience from just last week. Year-over-year, NXT is down 22% in the key demos from 2020, despite no longer going head-to-head with AEW, which dominated them in that key demo. That’s pretty astounding.

With Johnny Gargano's contract set to expire on December 3 and WarGames being on December 5, Gargano has signed a one week extension. With the way the market is and having a kid on the way, unless he's guaranteed a good AEW deal, I could see him staying with WWE.

He's completely lost there now though.  All the old guard look hopelessly lost.  Ciampa is the champion and even he seems lost.  The War Games will no doubt put over the "new blood" at the expense of the original NXT, and I saw the booking as the swan song for all of them.  They're actually calling Ciampa, Gargano, Dunne, and Knight "Team Old School".  Dunne is 28 and Knight was signed a few months ago.  And the saddest part of all is that one of them will probably be seriously injured because you have 4 guys wrestling them who have no idea what they're doing in a regular match, much less in a War Games.

Johnny Gargano appears to be done with NXT after tonight, as alluded to on his Twitter as well as a promo by Ciampa tonight. His contract is up and surely he’ll have no problem signing with AEW even if they’re raising standards.  That’s probably a spoiler for the main event as I would expect him to do the job and put one of these talentless young kids over.

Gargano almost in tears walking out. Huge entrance with a huge pop. The announcers put him over big. Entire crowd on their feet chanting “Johnny Wrestling”. It’s definitely the end without anyone saying it. Gargano’s NXT run was amazing and when you can’t figure out how to keep guys like this, there’s just no hope.

Lance Storm: “ There is ZERO chance NXT Black and Gold beats NXT 2.0. Just billing it like that kills the finish.

Crazy that I’m seeing people predicting Black and Gold win. You can’t tell the story that the current show we want you to watch is worse than the one you used to watch.“

Team 2.0 wins. I thought Brekker would pin Gargano but instead he pinned Ciampa.

Reports say Gargano will address his future on NXT on Tuesday, so he's not done yet.

His contract is up on Friday. They are probably still going to try to resign him until then.

It's either going to be a farewell address or he'll announce he re-signed.  Meltzer says it really looks unlikely he's re-signing, so pretty surprising they'll give him a mic not knowing which way it's going yet.

When they gave Gargano the end of the show to make his announcement I was sure they had to be keeping him. And then when he started talking about leaving I thought maybe it was a swerve and he was going to the main roster for his new contract.  But no, he really hasn’t re-signed yet and he likely will be in AEW soon. They had Grayson Waller run in to lay out Gargano and write him off TV, but prior to that he gave a great farewell speech thanking HHH, HBK, Regal and a bunch of guys who never get mentioned on TV like Steve Corino, Matt Bloom, and Terry Taylor. Definitely the end of an era.

I don't think they give him that platform if he's leaving. I think he's taking time off to be with Candice and he'll be back with WWE after the baby is born.

After the show went off the air, Ciampa came out and checked on Gargano. The two then sat in the ring together and cried. That doesn’t sound like only paternity leave. Meltzer says he really hasn’t re-signed yet.

Whatever it is, it's a great deal for him, because everyone is talking about him. There are a variety of scenarios that could make sense. Marina Schafir was at the AEW Dark tapings in Orlando on Friday. I wouldn't be surprised if she was on the phone to her husband and somehow Tony Khan got a hold of her phone and Johnny Gargano and Kyle O'Reilly got a hold of Roddy's phone somehow. I don't really get how staying with NXT can be a pull for a guy like Gargano unless they just throw money at him. Even then, we've see that if they think you are being overpaid, they won't hesitate to release you. As a performer, he has to decide if he wants  the huge pop for his next appearance to be 200 NXT 2.0 fans or 10,000 AEW fans. I'm ruling out 5,000 WWE fans, because even if he joins the main roster, I don't see them introducing him in a way that would get a huge reaction.

In the meantime, Kyle O'Reilly confirmed that his loss to that dude whose new name I don't even know in the steel cage match last night was his final NXT appearance.

I think Gargano is going to just take time off to be with Candice and the baby and he'll sign somewhere around March or April of next year. There's no reason to sign anywhere now when he wants to spend time with the family, and in 3-4 months who knows what the landscape will be like?

Meltzer is reporting that the internal belief is that both Gargano and O'Reilly will re-sign, but obviously that's far from a sure thing.

The NXT 2.0 PPV last night, Throwback Throwdown, was really good. They did a really great job of getting all these new characters over. Probably a few too many Canadian gimmicks for Vince, but that's an easy fix when they get to the main roster.

Bron Brekker best Tommaso Ciampa clean with the Steiner Recliner to win the NXT title.

Carmelo Hayes beat Roderick Strong to unify the North American and Cruiserweight titles (and essentially end the Cruiserweight division).

There’s not a lot left to do to finish burying NXT after tonight.

Rick Steiner was there and celebrated in the ring with Brekker after NXT went off the air, so then not calling him a Steiner is beyond absurd now.

WWE finally convinced WALTER to move to the U.S. and he has been announced as a full-time member of NXT now. A farewell match to NXT UK will air in the coming weeks against Nathan Fraser. They were pretty much at a stalemate with him for months as he refused to move. This probably saved his job as they clearly were high on him and he’s getting paid more than anyone else in NXT UK by a lot, but they didn’t want him there anymore. Now in 2.0 and on Vince’s radar, I shudder to think how he’ll be used and how far he will fall in presentation. I have a feeling he’ll get lost within 2 months and wind up released anyway when they wonder why his new Oktoberfest gimmick doesn’t get over.

First video package and it’s typical “foreigner thinks Americans are lazy and stupid” tripe. Just Vince 101 nonsense that last got over in 1987. I’m sure Vince doesn’t even know anything about it and will never watch, but whoever did it knows what he’s liked for 40 years and said, “Just do that.”

I'm sure there have been worse like the Gobbledy-Gooker or Red Rooster, but the next time a WWE fan knocks Orange Cassidy they should be forced to be pegged by Wendy Choo.

Oh, and when she covers an opponent, she pretends to sleep on them.  What in the holy fuck?

Do you think it could be a rib on Orange Cassidy and the fact that his character is so over, like this will be WWE's version of that character?  It wouldn't be the first time that Vince was reactionary.

The rib's on them because they have no understanding of why Orange is over and no clue how to do it themselves, clearly.

Not surprising but still disappointing and stupid.

WALTER isn't the greatest of names to begin with but it's established at this point. Now they give him a stupider name and I presume start to reinvent him and five him a new 'character'.

This is one guy you should not mess with. I've only seen him a few times and he is one of the best around. And they're gonna fuck it all up.

They just can't help themselves.  He will ask for his release within 5 months.  Everything I hear about him is that he won't put up with this and he never wanted to live in America anyway.  He's going to hate it and get homesick on top of being disgusted with Creative.

Keith Lee tweeted:

We all know none of this makes sense anymore, and everything is geared towards an audience of one which is Vince, but it’s just so crazy to think of everything the company has done this last year creatively and with the wrestlers they have let go. Their roster was huge 1-2 years ago and now they can’t even fill a 2 hour smackdown, barely anyone is over and even less is interesting. I really feel like they are moving towards a sale or at least discussions around one this year, nothing else could explain the decisions they make…and sale or not, changing Walters name is just asinine.

Nick Khan was obviously brought in to facilitate a sale sooner rather than later, but with regards to WALTER that's just them needing to own everyone's name.  What they will never understand is that the name change is so detrimental and counter-productive for some of these guys who already have built a reputation that you're actually preventing them from ever getting over so you won't be able to make money off of them anyway, and when they go to AEW or return to the indies under their previous name, everyone still knows them and it's considered a positive.  Vince still thinks it's 2001 and there are no other options or ways to make money in wrestling.  He also still really believes that he's holding WALTER hostage now by changing his name and ruining his earning potential should he leave, and he has no idea how asinine that sounds to the modern fan.  WALTER will always be a bugger name is wrestling than GUNTHER, so you just devalued your own star while he's with you but didn't hurt him at all once he leaves, but you'll never convince him of that.

PWInsider:

WWE has already abandoned their trademark filing on the name Gunther Stark.

WWE filed that they had abandoned the registration of the trademark yesterday, 1/19.

As noted yesterday on PWInsider.com, the trademark registration blew up in WWE's face on both social media and with a number of mainstream outlets in the United States and internationally. The Gunther Stark name, devised as the new ring name for the former WALTER, was identical to a Nazi U-Boat Commander in World War II.

WWE moved forward with WALTER's new ring name this past Tuesday, instead using "Gunther" without the last name.

NXT did a record low rating this week. This will likely be blamed on Gunther not being a draw, and putting an end to any future pushes for anyone remotely indie or foreign.

Meltzer and just about everyone else are reporting that internally WWE is very disappointed with NXT 2.0. From ratings to online reaction to how the new characters aren’t connecting with the audience, they recognize that the first 4 months have been a failure. They now know that it was “too much too soon” with too many people being introduced too quickly, which was obvious on Day One. But there are no plans to change course at this point.

In 1996, WWE hired Tracy Smothers, Scott Irwin, Tony Anthony, Tom Brandi and Alex Porteau. They were given cartoonist gimmicks and were supposed to be good hands who could win some matches on the syndicated shows then lose on Raw because they didn't want out and out no name jobbers on Raw any more. Now they have a show with the same kind of cartoonish gimmicks, but the wrestlers are day one rookies and appearing live every week on national television as the featured stars. And they are surprised that the characters aren't over. Okay.

I never really heard the 1996 signings explained quite like that before. It actually sounds like a decent enough idea on paper. The execution was awful.

I'm pretty sure Cornette covered this 1996 idea sometime in the past year as I recall hearing it recently.

Roderick Strong lost to LA Knight in a competitive match before Smackdown but was basically squashed by T-Bar of all people last night before Raw. Knight beat Cedric Alexander last night. So it appears Knight may be getting primed for a call-up and Strong is getting primed for AEW.

Roderick Strong lost to LA Knight in a competitive match before Smackdown but was basically squashed by T-Bar of all people last night before Raw. Knight beat Cedric Alexander last night. So it appears Knight may be getting primed for a call-up and Strong is getting primed for AEW.

Yep. Dunne and Ciampa have both won matches for the past two weeks on Main Event, and they both beat T-Bar. So, Strong putting T-Bar over isn't a good sign. Also not a good sign for T-Bar...

WWE taped a backstage confrontation between the Dirty Dawgs and LA Knight last night at Raw for social media, setting up an appearance by them tonight on NXT. Apparently that's the new thing is having WWE stars on NXT every week now, even though they're supposed to be enforcing brand separation and reverting NXT back to a more developmental brand that isn't on par with the main rosters. Go figure.

Kinda how they booked NXT back before it was on the Network.

Hell, that's like how they booked OVW back in the day, at least for big shows.  But this is on TV, which Vince may or may not remember at this point.  And WWE spent the last 4 months telling us that NXT isn't on par with WWE and shouldn't be thought of like that anymore.

If only those doctors could've given her a personality implant too.  She stood there swaying like a 50-year old white guy dancing at a bar mitzvah.  But you're right about the crowd, they acted like she was Beyonce.  I'm half convinced they're all WWE staffers like the old Primetime shows because no one can be this excited about this garbage without getting paid to be there..

According to Meltzer, Shawn Micahels has pretty much taken over NXT from HHH, and they are "very high on him". While every other HHH ally has been fired, Michaels has just been given more power and is all in with the new direction. After coming in as a coach and a part-time helper, he's now considered to be essentially the "showrunner" for NXT, and the new HHH.  He's making, or is at least consulted in, nearly every decision, which is a pretty big shock considering that an executive path is something those who knew him in the '90s would've never imagined.

Honestly I have no idea who most of these people are anymore, and I watch every week. So many new characters and the gimmicks make it impossible for any of them to get over. The girl in her pajamas who falls asleep during matches was back again, but this time she wrestled a girl I didn’t know, while another girl I don’t really know came to the ring with her father’s credit card. Somehow this distracted her and pj girl won and wound up getting the credit card. And that segment went on forever.

And then poor Kay Lee Ray, the longest reigning NXT UK Women’s champ, spent 5 segments chasing Mandy Rose with a bat. A dude literally got a boner seeing them (not PG anymore I guess) and there was a food fight and when she finally caught her she threw the bat down and superkicked her instead.

There’s this Japanese girl who’s supposed to be a great worker but she used her grandmother’s medallion to…do something. I don’t know, she was wearing a Japanese schoolgirl outfit one minute and then touched it and transformed into her wrestling gear. It’s the type of thing that could never get over on the main roster (or anywhere else), which I thought was the point of blowing up the former NXT, because they want to mold stars for Raw and Smackdown. In front of a WWE crowd, she’d be eaten alive with that gimmick. They all would.

I can’t even go on. I’m losing brain cells typing this. The whole show was like this with 5 seconds of wrestling sprinkled in.

Well, I guess they did. Sarray is a Japanese schoolgirl with a magical amulet that turns her into a superhero, the Warrior of the Sun.

Or maybe Nikkita Lyons, the rapper/singer who sounds like she can't do either.

These fucking gimmicks. Nonsensical bullshit that wouldn't have flown in 1993. No one in the history of wrestling has gotten over with this kind of gimmick. If they are so good at whatever the thing they do is, why are they also wrestling? Not one of these cartoon gimmicks is a possible main-eventer.

Goofy nonsense works in a promotion like Chikara or PWG. But everyone is in on the joke in those shows. It's a parody of wrestling, or pro wrestling in world where the audience knows it's not real. It works for a small crowd and in small doses. The NXT 2.0 are into the show, and that should be the extent of their audience. The same show on the Network or YouTube would be fine, but putting it on national television will never work. Also, those promotions I mentioned had excellent wrestlers and serious main events. There's a reason why the Orange Cassidy in AEW is different to the one we saw in the indies. And even in "comedy wrestling" promotions, there's still the belief (suspended, I'll admit) that the competitors are wrestlers who want to win matches and titles. Some rich girl running around with a credit card... there's no connection between that and her wanting to wrestle. Even the Undertaker only really got over as a legitimate main eventer when they toned down the gimmick. And he's the only example of a goofy gimmick that actually broke through. Any other successful gimmick on a national level had something to connect them to a desire to win wrestling championships.

The only success they have at the moment is Bron Breakker. They guy who doesn't have a goofy gimmick. And a lot of his popularity comes from his lineage, which they won't even mention.

And hot women getting food thrown over them? All so Vince can try to get his old man pecker to move. Not to kink-shame Vince, but it's crazy that WWE get away with this by putting it on national television. If he wanted them do this for his private collection he'd never get away with it.

And pumping in fake crowd noise that couldn't possibly come from only 200 people? Such a strange, strange show.

I do love me some wrestlecrap, though, so long may it continue.

I get the impression that they're aiming at an audience whose age is in the single digits.  It's literal cartoon stuff in the Sarray case.  Jem or Dungeons & Dragons or something.  Did He Man have a jewel?
The one interesting thing is how good Wendy Choo is at incorporating narcolepsy in her moves.  Like turning a leg bar into a nap.  She's obviously worked hard at trying to give some level of legitimacy to the gimmick.

The former Karen Yu is a legit good worker, which makes this all the more sad.  She's killing herself to get this gimmick over and will spend the next 6 months doing so, and then they'll either release her or come to their senses and scrap the gimmick over night, and blame her for it not working.  And yet there's so many of these 22-year old girls with zero experience that they debuted all at once, none of whom I know their names, and they could've given this gimmick to any one of them because at least it would make them more memorable than being "Semi-Hot Inexperienced Girl #6".

And He-Man had a sword, even that cartoon didn't do anything this goofy.

I can't imagine what feedback Shawn Michaels gives these people.  He's watching this show on the monitor last night, he supposedly loves the direction, and what can he be thinking?  "Hey Mandy, you're really improving since you were sent back down.  That was a great job taking a plate of spaghetti to the hair.  You keep it up and you'll be ready for a match with Ronda Rousey in no time.  Just one piece of advice, when me and Bret used to do this spot, it was more face and less hair, just maybe 15% more.  We can work on that at the PC tomorrow, but you're doing great."  He HAS to know all of this is garbage and can never work in 2022 and he just needs the insurance or something.

The only positive that NXT has done is that it's showing the an "edgier" product means nothing when the bookinng is atrocious.  WWE doesn't suck because it's PG, it sucks because it's WWE.  All the curses and boners in the world aren't helping NXT.  And why they use gimmicks that could only appeal to a toddler but make that the more "mature" product I have no idea.  None of this makes sense unless it's intentional sabotage.  Something is going on with that brand that I can't figure out.

Nikkita Lyons' gimmick was so bad and her execution maybe even worse that I had to look her up.  The entirety of her wrestling career consists of 10 matches for WOW, the updated GLOW company from a few years ago.  She was known as Faith the Lioness and holds victories over such luminaries as The Beverly Hills Babe, Khloe Hurtz, The Temptress, and Mildred Burke (just checking to see if anyone is reading).  I mean you can find much more attractive and semi-athletic girls at any strip club in the country if that's the way you want to go again, why the hell is Faith the Lioness on my TV?

I saw a Lyons vignette on NXT last night and what they showed was dedicated mostly to her martial arts abilities, working with nunchakus and sparring.   There was a clip showing her putting on headphones but I got this vibe mixing Holly Holm with Kate Hudson in Almost Famous.    There is a YouTube clip as well showing her going for a Tae Kwon Do black belt at age 7, so she seems to be more than a gimmick on that front.   She seems to have only  just attended a tryout camp in August 2021, so she must be fast tracked or lights out with her progress so far.   It will be interesting to see if they trained enough of the independent style out of her.

The YouTube version bleeped out the "shit" that SyFy had no problem airing the night before.

The commentators also didn't understand the difference between a card being canceled and maxed out.  On every single level this is one of the worst storylines in WWE history.

NXT did a record low 400,000 last night, a shockingly low number even given the switch to SyFy. Raw’s number held better than expectations on SyFy but NXT’s was really, really bad.  To put this in perspective, when NXT was switched to SyFy last year, it still drew more than 700,000.

NXT closes out the 3/1 episode with NXT North American champ Carmelo Hayes successfully defending against Pete Dunne.    I didn't actively watch the show tonight but I did see a number of finishes that don't even seem like a decided push for some of the talent, but more along the lines of putting someone over just to go against what the fanbase might enjoy seeing.   Maybe I'm off-base in that assessment,  but the bell barely sounded and the cameras couldn't help but film the in-ring posturing by Hayes without catching dozens of empty chairs as the crowd made a bee-line for the exits.  They wound up in the aisle filming Hayes' promo for a ladder match on 4/2 staying with an extended length with a solo shot that seemed to be an audible from the production truck.

So the talentless former WNBA star Lash Legend almost killed a girl last night, and is so green she didn’t even know it. Amari Miller had to be stretchered out after taking her finish, which is a pretty simple move that she did in an uncontrolled way that sent Miller’s head crashing into the mat and caused spine and head injuries and instantly knocked her out. You can see how hard Miller landed, but other than that nothing is obvious on TV. They cut to a close up of an oblivious Legend talking to the camera and then went to backstage segments. In the meantime, it was a scary scene in the ring as Miller was completely out and needed a neck and back brace before she could be moved. NXT 2.0 is going to have a death or paralysis on their hands really soon if they keep letting untrained garbage play wrestler on TV.

Dunne is 28 and Hayes is 27 and Dunne, like all the “old guys”, have been pushed to the curb simply because they were established under HHH, regardless of actual age and certainly not taking into account talent. It’s absurd. Dunne should be one of the bright young stars in the company still with his entire career ahead of him.

Will have to check the injury reports later this week to see if MSK or Imperium got hurt by the Creed Brothers doing a run-in on the tag match they were replaced in due to a parking lot attack earlier in the show.   The Cringes would be a better name with as many sloppy throws as they seem to have in their arsenal.

This episode is brutal. They all are, but when you start a show with a women's tag match featuring Sleepy Girl followed by a singles women's match, and out of all those women maybe 2 have talent and I know their names, it's hard to keep watching.

Last night's NXT was almost comical in the way that almost anyone with talent was jobbed out. And NXT UK is now the jobber division where they import their top stars to try to make the NXT 2.0 guys look good in 3 minutes or less.

I watched some highlights of last night's show. Skinny Gunther doesn't look nearly as intimidating as the old WALTER. Brutus Creed looks retarded and his brother needs to ditch him ASAP, because Julius has a great look. If he wants to go anywhere in WWE, he needs to do it sooner or later anyway. If they are looking for people who could headline WrestleMania, the only one even close so far is Bron Breakker.

Duke Hudson looking bigger than Gunther is the kiss of death for him, if he had any hope before. Vince will see that and have no idea why he was ever a big deal.

Some bizarre botch during the Tiffany Stratton vs. Ivy Nile match tonight when the commentators and both wrestlers sold something that hadn't happened yet because Sarray apparently missed her cue and was late and no one had any clue how to improvise. So they just sold she was therefor 10 seconds until she showed up. Just horrible.

I was in another room as the Toxic Attraction promo was in the ring, and while Mandy Rose sounds like she is trying to convince herself of what the writers gave her, it was one of her cronies who had an unintentional gem.   She was touting Rose as the champ who will defend against three "other" bimbos at their Stand and Deliver event.   It surely isn't a Freudian slip like an Austin Idol "Who said anything about FOUR flat tires?" which would be great as part of a breakup angle.  If Rose gave her a side-eye, like Randy Savage after Hogan carried Elizabeth, I wasn't able to see it.   More likely the promo will get high marks for hitting all the dialogue.

Mandy herself switched up the order of one of her lines, something like "Cora Jade... I'm gonna send her back right under the bridge she came from."

Many Rose is now in her 30s and has been in the WWE system for 7 years, on the main roster most of that time.  And I'm not convinced she knows how to get in the ring yet and she might actually be regressing, if that's possible.  The PC is worse than America's public school system.

Did they ever say outright previously that Rick Steiner was the father of Bron Breakker?  Vic Joseph said it tonight, so maybe Breakker can become his nickname as they go forward.

I thought they did after he won the NXT title and hugged his father in the crowd, but now I can't remember if that was ever aired on TV or just online.

I thought the start of that match was the worst part. The grappling was fine, but then, with no real offensive moves yet in the match, Stratton gave Nile a simple headlock takeover to set up a standing moonsault, leaving Nile to just have to lie there and wait for it. She clearly wasn't stunned, so she just looked stupid. Them they did a a sequence  of rolling close falls, except no one's shoulders were ever down. The referee rightly didn't make any counts, but the commentators acted as if he did. Pretty poor given that they rehearse all this and I blame whoever put this together because it should have been obvious that this wouldn't work live. I guess the commentators are involved in the rehearsals given that they often react to what should happen, rather than what actually does happen. Not even sure this is pro wrestling anymore.

After Ciampa jobbed to Tony D'Angelo at NXT Stand and Deliver, HHH made a surprise appearance that even Ciampa clearly wasn't expecting and basically said goodbye. Is Ciampa being called up to the main roster or is he leaving completely?

I took this imagery from last Tuesday's show that it was the end of the NXT run.

Maybe Hunter is using it as an excuse for his own goodbye.

Minutes after winning the NXT Tag titles, Nash Carter's wife Kimber Lee posted allegations of abuse against him, then deleted the tweet. She clarified that the "abuse" was actually "neglect" to focus on his career, then deleted that too. You would think a fellow wrestler would understand the business, but apparently not.  So now we'll see if this gets MSK canceled.

Kimber Lee has now gone back again and accused Nash Carter of splitting her lip, posting a picture and claiming that Carter said she’s a wrestler so no one will think anything of it if she has some marks. She tweeted directly @WWENXT.  So think MSK is in big trouble here.

That Tony D'Angelo segment on NXT was something else. It was maybe 90 seconds long, and every single second was a fail.

Whoever that reality TV jabroni was, he kept forgetting and flubbing his lines while nervously trying to decide which hand to hold his microphone in.

The segment was supposed to put D'Angelo over, I guess, but he only had one line, and he forgot to hold his microphone to his mouth, so he basically spent the whole segment as a mute.

The crowd completely shit all over this, and given how few people are in there, it was like hecklers at a comedy club and you cold hear individual people shouting "you suck, Tony" at the ring.

They drank red wine out of champagne flutes to end the segment, so 10/10 to the NXT prop department.

If someone had come out and dropped D'Angelo, they would have instantly become the number one babyface in NXT.

In a parallel universe, WALTHER is beling built up to challenge for the NXT title at a TakeOver on SummerSlam weekend in a sold out Barclays Center. Instead, last night Gunther had an unannounced title match on free TV in front of 200 fans, one of whom was holding a sign which said "Will Smith slaps harder than Gunter."

Pretty Deadly come over from NXT UK with new names and wearing all black, completely negating their appeal.  I don't think NXT UK can last much longer seeing how they're chipping away at their roster and making them all 2.0 jobbers.

Someone explain to me why the owner of a beer league hockey team is making someone a made man in the first place?

Well, I was only commenting on the production values. The story writing is a whole different problem.

He's been released today. Fired is probably more accurate. Probably the end of his career.

Well she got him.  And she's proud as can be over it, tweeting "Today is a good day to have a good day."  She paints a really sympathetic figure.  The abuse stuff didn't work, but when in doubt jump straight to Hitler. Absolutely amazing that in this day and age people are still doing that even privately, thinking that it won't come out even though it always comes out.

Poor Wes Lee.  I don't know what he will do.

PWInsider:

WWE NXT will hold a five team gauntlet to crown the new NXT Tag Team Champions on tomorrow night's NXT 2.0 on the USA Network.

The match will feature Pretty Deadly vs. Grayson Waller & Sanga vs. The Creed Brothers vs. Legado del Fantasma's Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza vs. Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen.

WWE released then-NXT Tag Team Champion Nash Carter on 4/6 after his wife, wrestler Kimber Lee, posted a number of allegations against him on social media in regard to alleged abuse as well as a photo of Carter with his mustache shaved to appear like Adolf Hitler, making a Nazi salute. While the context of the photo (and when it was taken) is obviously not clear, there is no way WWE was going to retain someone seen doing something so reprehensible and we are told the photo is what led to the release. Carter, formerly one half of MSK, debuted for NXT in January 2021. Prior to that run, he was one third of the Rascals in Impact Wrestling.

Carter's MSK partner, Wes Lee, remains with WWE as of this writing, but obviously will need a new creative direction.

They never even addressed why the titles were vacated or mentioned MSK by name. They just said here's a gauntlet match for the vacated NXT Tag titles.

Natalya looks to be sticking around NXT for the present time.   She cut a promo with Cora Jade, who idolizes her, but it ended ith Cora slapped and locked in a Sharpshooter.  Later Nattie accepted a challenge in the locker room and put the other ladies on notice.   The crowd loved her appearance even after the assault on Cora.

New tag champs are Pretty Deadly.   This must lead to the Creed Brothers chasing the titles.  I don't understand the love for those guys but they're getting it nonetheless.  Pretty Deadly reminds me of those Blades of Glory figure skaters.

Rok-C (now Roxanne Perez) made her NXT debut tonight in a vignette where she’s playing WWE video games and says that she now will step out of the video game and wrestle. This was followed up by the nameless backstage interviewer saying, with a straight face, “What an incredible story” and then Rok-C cut an awful promo before she was thankfully interrupted by Toxic Attraction, who no one has ever been happy to see before. Then they challenged her to a match tonight instead of having her make her debut tonight and she said no, which is the kiss of death for a babyface, before saying “I’ll figure something out.” There were public access wrestling shows in the ‘90s that were better than this.

The Viking Raiders returned to NXT last night to start an angle with the Creed Brothers where they will likely put them over next week and the whole deal will be over and done with in 8 days. At least they get to hang out in Florida for a week while they rehearse the match.

I felt the need to punish myself and watch this week's show. I thought it might be so much wrestlecrap that it would be funny. It's certainly crap, but it's not funny. I can't believe USA are happy with this show on national television. The few people that know what they are doing aren't able to help this show, they're being dragged down. Without exaggerating, Natalya has more experience than the entire NXT women's division combined, and she looks like every other rookie because none of these women know how to sell a kick. Awful wrestling, even worse acting, and they are killing the only decent guy they have created in the most ridiculous nonsense angle. Minus five stars.

The chubby chick that they signed out of the new GLOW had the simplest spot possible where she was on her opponent and there was a kick out and she was supposed to throw herself through the ropes.  She launched herself head first in a way that would've been comical if she didn't come inches from paralyzing herself.  Some of these girls can't do ANYTHING and they're having matches on national TV, always inches from death multiple times per episode.

And the way Wade Barrett was talking about her would have had Jerry Lawler complaining that he was sexualising her too much. I have to somewhat admire Barrett's complete lack of shame as he just says whatever they tell him to and pockets his check.

One positive, Von Wagner is killing it with his skinny-armed caveman gimmick. Very convincing.

Wow, Dexter Lumis also released. About 6 or 7 other names as well that I’ve literally never heard of so I won’t bother listing them.

Harland and Persia Perotta were the two other "big" names released. So Indi Hartwell's husband and best friend have both been released. Harland's release explains why he wasn't on this week's show after being by Joe Gacy's side for the past few months.

For the record, the others are Raelyn Divine (never wrestled), Mila Malani (brief indie career, but no matches for WWE), Draco Anthony (205 Live and Level Up jobber), Sanjana George (never wrestled) and Paige Prinzivalli (brief indie career, was training as a referee).

Reports are that both Bivens and Dakota Kai had refused new deals from WWE recently, so those two releases are not unexpected. Kai had had dark matches on SmackDown and the word was that Vince wasn't interested in bringing her to the main roster, so with over 5 years in developmental at 33 years old, she clearly had no future there.

Meltzer says to expect more NXT releases every 90 days with an incredibly strict and stressful plan in place for these NXT talents to improve or get cut. He said Harland basically wasn’t showing enough improvement so they just got rid of him with little thought. That will continue to happen as many NXT projects aren’t showing improvement and they know it, and are no longer willing to work with talents for years to get them where they need to be. It’s sink or swim time. Continuity will obviously be affected, making the shows more impossible to watch as pushed talents just continue to disappear.

On Bivens, Meltzer says that was more about him refusing a contract extension so they fired him before he could leave on their own. The release happened days before Bivens was set to make his stand-up comedy debut, a show that was heavily promoted on social media by Bivens’ WWE and NXT friends, some of whom were supposed to be (and still might be) in attendance.

Predictably, Fightful is reporting that Roderick Strong has requested his release many times over the past several months but it has not been granted. He asked again yesterday after the latest round of cuts and was again denied. His Diamond Mine stable that once consisted of 8 people is down to just him.

They know exactly where he's going when he leaves WWE, but they are just being petty about this. Roderick Strong will get a big pop when he first appears for AEW, but I don't see him ringing new fans to AEW. If you are a Roderick Strong fan, you already watch AEW, and likely have been since the start. He's pretty much an AEW mole in the NXT camp right now, so maybe it works out for everyone.

As probably the last veteran left in NXT, what does he do all week? Is he training like everyone else in developmental? Is he some kind of informal coach? He hardly ever wrestles, so he doesn't have to take part in match rehearsals. Or does he just spend all week working out and enjoying the Florida sun?

Two quickie vignettes back-to-back address their talent releases without saying so:

Diamond Mine has Roderick Strong browbeating the Creed Bros. and Ivy Nile making it clear he is the driving force behind their group.

Following that, Indie Hartwell and Duke Hudson meet up in the locker room making sad faces at each other...and then suddenly having both tease a kiss, only to act repulsed in both their minds for even thinking to do so.     Even with Dexter Lumis and Persia Perotta around, they might have wound up with a sexual tension angle anyway.

It's pretty great watching this tag match with Natalya and Lash Legend facing Cora Jade and Nikkita Lyons.  Nattie is coaching in real-time with everyone involved, including the referee.   She's turning 40 this month and doesn't look grizzled next to these early-20s gals.  She's the real star here, but the story of the match is how she put every one of the other girls in position to look good.

The best think in the NXT women's division is Wendy Choo giving Mandy Rose skin cancer. A dark turn I wasn't expecting.

Nattie deserves hazard pay for trying to keep that mess together.  I hope she has a coaching role locked up for after she retires.

I'm not sure how wise it is to have a breakout tournament with the rookie women. It's the blind leading the blind for seven matches.

Bron Breakker is head and shoulders above all the other talent in NXT that haven't gone through the indies. He should probably be called up immediately because having him continue to work in NXT will only erode or stunt his development. In order to improve, he needs to work with someone who can at least get into the ring without tripping, and that won't happen in NXT unless they have him work with Roderick Strong every day from now until Strong's contract expires.

He should be working every house show and dark matches at every TV. He won't improve anymore with lessons from Albert and Norman Smiley in a gym and wrestling in front of the same 200 fans twice a month. Since the Florida loop has been cancelled, they now have "house shows" at the PC with the audience being the coaches and other wrestlers. That's not even close to 5,000 fans in an arena, which is needs get ready for. If they keep doing it this way, there will be other people doing a Lars Sulivan and shitting their pants and going home when they have to do it on the big stage.

When I saw the segment in both installments, i thought it might be a chance to feature the tag champs in a light separate from Mandy because they have their own unique styles but they are such cronies to her that it's a good way to showcase them, running Baywatch style on the beach, etc.   Then I realized that if anything, they may be separating them with the idea that Mandy is not long for the company.   Her ring work has been at a certain level, but she isn't someone that seems ready to be called back up.  Her social media presence is her real moneymaker, and I can see a time soon where she grows into an influencer who happens to wrestle, rather than the opposite.

There's no way Gigi Dolan should be in this group running in bikinis in slo-mo.  She's so ill-suited for that role, and what they dressed her in isn't even flattering for her body.  The way they pound square shapes into round holes is amazing to me.  The beach bimbo is a dime a dozen, and Gigi actually has a unique look and different type of charisma if they'd get their hands off their dicks long enough to notice.  I don't want to be thinking about the boring '90s porn these old men still jerk off to, but it's impossible not to see any WWE show and have the image of a sweaty Brother Love hunched over and furiously tugging it to the Pam Anderson sex tape on VHS.  Even their masturbatory material is pedestrian with poor work rate.

For some bizarre reason, they sent Lash Legend to NXT UK to have the worst segment in that show’s history in an interview segment with Noam Dar. I hope they made her fly Spirit.

D'Angelo is face because Escobar started it and is less white. The result is there are multiple criminal offences happening right on television every week and Plod is not interested in investigating. Neither did they investigate the Wendy Choo thefts and assaults last week.

On top of which D'Angelo and Escobar are both laying on ambushes where the only possible clue to the victim that something might be up is a cameraman, sound operator, lights holder, and producer, who somehow decide that an empty bit of tarmac is the place to be. Or possibly inside a car that is apparently going to be driven away in normal fashion.

Is he really?  I genuinely don't know based on what's presented on TV, but there was never anything remotely signifying a "turn", and he and his awful hockey owner/consiglieri were full-on heels in that Made Man segment, which was as bad as anything WWE has ever produced.  Who would possibly cheer for them?

Henry Hill?

Obviously it's eff all to do with wrestling and is seemingly on the basis that VKM has just discovered this great new programme called the Sopranos. But at least Tony D has some personality. Escobar and his acolytes have all the distinction of wallpaper paste.

After losing to Ilja Dragunov, Jordan Devlin is gone from NXT UK per stipulation. He will surely be moved to NXT 2.0 like many other UK stars these past few months. I really fear for the NXT UK brand and can't see it lasting much longer. It sticks out like a sore thumb in WWE now, a show still based mostly on wrestling but getting talent siphoned off at a rapid rate.

A couple of interesting quotes from William Regal on Renee Paquette's podcast talking about NXT 2.0...

"Okay, if the boss doesn’t want independent fellas, now we have to get massive numbers, because you’re only going to get one out of every 50 or 100 that actually really wants to put the time in and love this and work and be there all day long, every day, trying to hone their craft. A lot of people talk a good game, but they don’t actually put the time in."

"Johnny Gargano told me something before I left, ‘You can make wrestlers, but you can’t make them love it.’"

I think they'll be lucky to get one good wrestler a year from the system of taking in failed college athletes.

That's a good point by Regal and a fantastic quote from Gargano.  I didn't even think of that perspective, which seems obvious now.  If you're not going to find people who are already putting in the effort on the indy scene, who the hell is left?  Some of these NCAA athletes might pan out, but not enough to justify an entire system, and almost anyone else who wants this is already doing it outside of WWE.  When you just bring in people who want to be TV stars right away and not wrestlers, you get...exactly what you're getting.

Lash Legend over Tatum Paxley in the women's tournament.   Paxley with an over-enthusiastic "I am a strong powerlifting athlete" who gets pinned exacly 4 mins. 12 seconds after it ends, including some walkout time while it was airing.    Ugh.

What a mess that main event between D’Angelo vs. Escobar was. Both guys played heel throughout and I still can’t figure out if one of them is supposed to be a face. There were also some female promos and even entrances that should’ve never made TV.

They didn't even have enough material for the four minutes they had. Paxley did the attempted lift three times. The basic rules of story-telling dictate that it should have worked the third time. She also did a standing moonsault with a twist directly after selling her knee.

My random observations:

Pretty Deadly are awful at promos. So clear that they aren't into what they are doing at all. They are facing the Creed Brothers at In Your House, but the Creed Brothers then lost to the Viking Raiders. Okay. The Viking Raiders are just a joke now. A long, long way from War Machine. Is the point that the worst tag team on the main roster can beat the number one contenders in NXT?

Such a strange  show. Why were D'Angelo and his goons all standing in a line with their backs to the wall, but talking to each other, and not to the camera?

Bron Breakker is great. Joe Gacy is not, and this story needs to end quickly.

Wade Barrett is in this purely for the money. He doesn't sound even 1% interested in what he's watching.

Any wrestling fan with some athletic fan and minimal training could do these women's matches just from having watched wrestling matches. Everything is so slow, and the selling is so exaggerated. There is zero excitement, no story to the matches, just some moves and then a finish out of nowhere. What happened to working a body part? This is taking Bruce Prichard's "slow down, sell more" to an extreme.

Enofe and Blade making fun of D'Angelo and Escobar was much better than promos those two cut themselves.

The main event was to see which family runs NXT, but there is no evidence that either family has any influence over anyone else on the roster. If the takes were as they were stated, why was no else on the show interested in this match? At least D'Angelo has gone all in on his gimmick.

Sadly the show has risen from wrestlecrap to boring. There was nothing on this show that made me want to watch next week.

The worst part of the show was actually Kiana James' entrance. She has 3 poses and she did them repeatedly in the stiffest of fashions during an entrance that seemed like it would never end despite no one knowing who she is.  Her entire gimmick seems to be that she's smart because she wears glasses, but the entrance really has to be seen to be believed. If you pulled a teenage girl out of the crowd and told her to make an entrance, I don't think she'd look more stiff and scared to be in front of an audience.  You could almost here her thinking out loud, "Hands on hips, now one foot in front of the other, hands on hips again, take off glasses and put them back on, oh my God did I put my hands on hips yet?!"  I still am shocked that WWE is putting any of this stuff on TV, and I guess no one from USA watches the product anymore or I can't believe they wouldn't be furious.

In the Breaking Ground documentary series that was on the WWE Network when it first started, they showed the trainers working with the wrestlers on their entrances. The idea seems to be to have something unique for everyone, and it was based around how it would look in a video game, so every entrance is slow and deliberate, and exactly the same every time they come out.

In a lot of cases, I think these Performance center trainees are in the first wave of the type mentioned in another post, the type that Johnny Gargano said could be made into wrestlers, but not wrestlers who are in it for their love of wrestling.   I see a marked difference in the talent doing Dark or Elevation, who might toil for months and always look at the lights, but their matches don't look like they're paint-by-numbers.   I think getting ribbed on the square by Mark Henry, Taz or Paul Wight on commentary for sloppy work is a better motivator for a talent than a WWE producer who tries to hide everything so "their product" is to their specifications.  I could see a Sam Shaw/Dexter Lumis making a transition to an AEW environment, but not a Mandy Rose, who maximizes her screen time getting over that she's so much more than what's the ring, but seems destined to be an Instagram celebrity.   Strike a pose, there's nothing to it, Madonna once sang.

Dexter Lumis has 15 years experience, including with Impact and the NWA.  He's an indy journeyman who's had cups of coffee as a TV wrestler, but mostly he's wrestled in high school gyms in front of 200 people.  He'll continue to toil away no doubt and I see no reason why he won't end up doing a Dark match or two, but at 38 and with no charisma beyond his silent serial killer character that he's done in both Impact and NXT, I think think is close to the end of the line for him.  After Indie Hartwell is released for not being hot enough, they will no doubt reunite at a national guard armory near you.

I think I'm giving up on NXT. It's silly to waste 2 hours a week on this show. The last few weeks I've mostly had it on as background noise as I've done other stuff, which isn't that unusual, but I didn't even glance up once last night. The show seemed awful and boring and I don't care about any of the characters and any I accidentally start liking will be changed upon call up like L.A. Knight anyway. The show is completely amateur hour and not an acceptable TV product in any way, from the matches to the promos to the commentary, it's just embarrassing. Cornette always talks about kids playing wrestling instead of being wrestlers these days. I've never seen this more true than in NXT. If someone put on a backyard show with most of these kids, I'd think it wasn't very good even for that.  I don't believe I've ever not watched a weekly WWE show that was on TV before in the last 40 years, but this one is unwatchable.

NXT tag title match between Pretty Deadly defending against Roderick Strong and Damon Kemp (Gable Steveson's brother Bobby) was a good TV match, and the champs retain.   I wasn't glued to the TV as it aired but everything I saw was crisp.  Refreshing

There was a video package narrated by Joe Gacy in advance of his match against Bron Breakker at their In Your House event.   Tons of Steiner Brothers footage as a team and squaring off, telling Bron's story as a child growing up with a DFG Dad.  Bron's temper is what will get the best of him, Gacy surmises.   Well edited and produced.  Gacy's manic mind manipulator character is weird and Bron's reaction interview had some special effects which weren't needed to drive the storyline home.   Dr. Shrinker 2.0

They sent Apollo Crews back to NXT now to challenge Breakker for the NXT title. It’s impossible to care about any of it.

They should use Crews indy name when he is in NXT and act like its 2 different people.

Dude was born in Sacramento and grew up in Georgia. That was some Saba Simba bullshit giving him that accent just because Bruce had recently watched the Coming to America sequel.

My favorite part of 2.0 is Solo Sikoa bringing back the incredibly racist gimmick that Samoans have hard heads and can’t be headbutted. I hope he comes to the ring with Apollo Crews’ spear next week.

Apollo Crews is officially part of the NXT roster now, so he's not just there to put Bron over like Ziggler. Good for the match quality of the show, but probably means he'll be released soon. Commander Aziz is also on the NXT roster now. I'd say he's almost certainly gone in the next cut.

I just don't get NXT from a business purpose even if it made any sense from a wrestling perspective (which it also doesn't).  You spend YEARS developing these people, the indy stars among them which don't really require that much time to develop and the hopeless causes that can never be developed.  Then you call them up and change everything about them that you "developed" and bury them.  Then you send them back down to get a big pop like a mid-carder on an indy show would.  And then you release them, having absolutely not one red cent drawn to show for it against what has to be more than $100,000 per trainee in expenses.  Follow the science!

Two Dimes Donovan is on this week's NXT teaming with Stacks right now against Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams.  Is this a taped program, or perhaps Donovan was reclaimed off waivers?

Working from home plus day off for kindergarten graduation plus transitioning to a new job in 2 weeks. All of that equals me not giving a fuck and having 5 drinks of Ketel plus 2 shots of Metallica’s Blackened on a Tuesday night while watching the Yankees game and then skimming though another appalling episode of NXT.

Bron Breakker absolutely destroys Duke Hudson in what seemed like a gay-bashing. Shame! Shame!

Then Cameron Grimes comes out and says, “Everyone knows that if you didn’t have that last name, you wouldn’t have that NXT championship.”  Um, but he doesn’t have that last name. They changed it. This makes no sense.

Nigerian prince. Angry black man. He's going through all the stereotypes. Next week he'll be a Black Panther or join the Nation of Islam.

Thoughts...

This show is so, so, so, bad. But it's back into so bad it's good territory. None of these guys know how to wrestle. They want to put them on TV when they should still be learning the basics, so they are being given more complicated stuff to do that they can't pull off. Pretty much every time there is any kind of lift or throw, you can see the opponent jumping into the move. They don't have the timing down yet. You hardly ever see indie goofs who don't have the benefit of editing and multiple camera angles do that.

Also, none of them can act. Apart from Bron Breakker. He's the only one whose acting isn't completely amateur. (EDIT: The big Indian guy isn't bad. And Grimes...) Apollo Crews has been in WWE for over seven years, and he can't even read a voiceover script with conviction.

If someone would kick the crap out of Wendy Choo they would be the biggest babyface in all of wrestling. A confetti gun into a distraction roll-up? Fuck off.

Imagine having to make your wrestling debut wearing a velvet hooded robe. Roberts and Martel in the blindfold match could see better than those two. One of them was wearing work boots as well. These guys would have been rejected as WCW jobbers on Worldwide back in the day for being too goofy. If you ever need to prove that wrestling is fake, show them this match. Imagine having to put these two over. Surely the end game is to have Gacy's enemies pretend to be the hooded guys, and Breakker would have gotten a big pop by doing that, but Gacy isn't even feuding with anyone now.

The real mafia should whack Tony D'Angelo for bringing the Italian-American community into disrepute. What is the audience supposed to do with these fugazi mafia in-ring segments. Apart from wanting them to end? There is no reason for the audience to connect with any of this nonsense. If they are going to do this, it should be done on location, not in the ring. Wade Barrett should be on QVC with his willingness to sell anything with how enthusiastic was was about the watches. Not a single cheer for the two guys who came out to interrupt this abomination, so they must be the least over wrestlers in the history of wrestling. When Tony asked for a title shot, they piped in some mildly-enthusiastic crowd noise while the live crowd set on their hands.

The Grimes promo was good. At least Breakker has a real wrestler to work with again. Why was that not at the end of the show? I gave up after that, it started to get pretty dull.

I still can't figure out who the faces and heels are.  Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams are heels, entering a new feud with Tony D'Angelo's crew, who all appear to be heels, a crew that was just expanded after the heel D'Angelo made the heel Santos Escobar join, which completely negates the premise of the stipulation since they were all heels in the first place and now they're still all acting like heels.

And so is Cameron Grimes a heel now too?  I've never heard anyone cut a promo about his dead father before and that be the start of a heel turn.  Grimes was maybe the only over babyface left.  They have to be intentionally sabotaging this show for some reason.

I tried to check out NXT 2.0 again tonight because it's the first show with HHH back in control (supposedly), but this show is too far gone to save. I made it 40 minutes but it's just dreadful.  We need a whole different board to talk about this show compared to AEW, not just a different thread.

Two Dimes got whacked. Surely having a high-ranking mafioso admitting to orchestrating a murder live on their TV is something else the WWE board might want to investigate.

I skimmed the rest of the show. There was nothing to watch until the final segment other than Mandy Rose being particularly cheeky. The main event slot with the promo segment between Breakker and Grimes was great. Grimes is a tremendous promo and Breakker is already better than almost everyone on the WWE roster despite probably cutting less than 10 real promos in front of a crowd so far.  Those two are on such a different level than the rest of NXT, and of course Grimes is exactly the type of talent they like to cut because he has a good indy background, the difference being he wasn't a big enough indy darling before being signed so they let it slide.  Smart thinking.

The clip I just watched shows DeAngelo saying Two Dimes "made a move for his chair" which justifies him sleeping with the fishes.   In the last taping where Escobar misdirected a foreign object toward Carmelo Hayes, there was also the match where Two Dimes accidentally tripped his own family member leading to the team's loss.   It would be interesting to know who booked things this way as a precursor to Two Dimes' release, and if they knew it would be a cleaner way to tie up the storyline by the next taping.    Continuity has never been their strong suit, though, so it could have been something they lucked into.

I checked out Level Up this morning. I was interested to see the debut match of "Hank Walker". Not that he is supposed to be anything special, but he's one of the NIL college sports (football here) failures making his first appearance (after one house show match) on television after three months of training. Interesting choice of ring gear... jeans, an oversized shirt and Timberland boots. Looked every bit the farmboy that they were pushing him as (although poor Nigel McGuiness was scripted to believe that he was Seth Rogen) and you wouldn't guess that he was a professional wrestler in a million years. At least his opponent, Stacks, was wearing wrestling boots with his slacks and white vest combo.

It wasn't a wrestling match. Just a series of basic wrestling 101 moves one after the other. Nothing was sold except immediately after the move. Not even an attempt to tell a story. Stacks won without cheating, without any help from Tony D'Angelo on the outside. Surely in a basic wrestling match, the heel always cheats to win, because I don't think this was meant to be a squash match, it was supposed to be somewhat even and competitive.

The best (and by best I mean funniest) was when Walker ripped of his shirt, to the delight of the crowd, to reveal his pasty white wobbly belly, which probably points to one of the reasons he washed out his dreams of pro football. I really don't care what a guy's body looks like if he's a good performer, but this just shows that this dude knows nothing about sports entertainment or the company he works for. Rumor has is that Gangrel lost all favor with Vince McMahon when one day his puffy shirt rode up and exposed his out of shape body. I'd be inclined to think that someone did him dirty by letting him go to the ring looking like this. I expect to see him released very soon.

I wonder if there were late changes to the Late American Bash because there were two major major botches at key moments.

One, when Cora Jade was obviously meant to do a cross-body/spear on the Avoid one of Toxic Attraction, but Avoid either got completely lost or completely confused, and stopped dead, which meant she had to drag Jade out of the ring with her.

And two, right at the end, when Jordan Devlin was meant to be back-suplexing Breaker through a table. If I were doing play by play I would have described that as "Breaker takes a backwards jump when Devlin shakes his hand". Really really bad. You'd expect better of those two at least.

Latest Cora Jade botch. Let's leave aside the latest idiotic stupid moronic cretinous booking of splitting YET ANOTHER over tag team within about three weeks of them starting, she was meant to break her skateboard over the back of AJ Lee the Second, but instead it was so gimmicked that she managed to break it by lifting it up.

I don't watch NXT anymore but that sounds like the prop department's botch instead of hers.  I think they just have so little faith in the talent to walk and chew bubble gum without getting hurt that they overcompensated.  Jake Roberts is wishing someone gimmicked HTM's guitar half as well.

I saw a clip on Twitter of the finish of the Indi Hartwell vs. Lash Legend match.  I'm still shocked that WWE and USA continues to allow half of this roster on TV.

As everyone continues to be re-branded if they were using their real name or indy gimmick name, A-Kid is now under a mask as Axiom going forward. They have gutted the NXT UK roster and moved most of them to NXT 2.0 or WWE, which somehow doesn't seem to have improved the product at all.

The Grizzled Young Veterans are coming back as Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid. Seems that they will be revealed from under the Dyad hoods. Makes sense since I don't think any of the PC rookies could have wrestled in those ridiculous costumes without killing themselves.

Poor Zack Gibson. He was the most hated heel in all of WWE a few years ago. Now he's Joe Gacy's goon and without the beard he somehow looks like a baby owl and Baron Von Raschke at the same time.

I don't really remember that.  He got a nice push at the very beginning of NXT UK, but most hated heel in the company?

I chalked that up to Brits being Brits.  We never quite understood it in America.  The whole crowd used to be electric at the NXT UK shows with all the songs and soccer chants, and now post-Covid they're as dead as American crowds.

So the Cora Jade-Roxanne Perez angle is being done as a rib to Sasha Banks and Naomi? Jade's reason for turning was that she wanted to make the NXT Women's Tag titles important and Roxanne wanted to win the NXT Women's title, then she throws the title in the garbage.

Just awoke from a nice nap.  I turned on NXT late to see the end of a Diamond Mine promo and then the start of an Indi Hartwell match.  A closeup shot at ringside has two fans, one swaying to the generic NXT transition music between segments...and his buddy who delivers a colossal yawn, just like mine from minutes earlier.  But I think this guy was going in the other direction.

I did wonder if there are already signs that there is a shift back to the old NXT; they're ditching the Wendy Choo slumberland gimmick.

Nice closing of a circle to the Alundra Blayze dumping the title in the bin by bringing Caitlyn Jenner to impersonate her getting the women's title back out of it.

NXT 2.0 is the only wrestling show that's ever been available to me on cable TV that I've ever stopped watching because of how awful it is.  I will give it a shot again next week and see if HHH has improved it even a little bit.

Let me know. First time  I watched  was the PPV where Walter lost, thought it was great and then tuned in to the next week and it was the worst shit I've ever seen in my life (as, I'm nearly sure, you predicted).

Very decent match between Andre Chase (who is the most improved wrestler this year) and Giovanni Vinci. The dynamics of the face having ringside help were not really right but they didn't interfere and the chick suits Daisy Dukes.

Shawn Michaals was on a podcast where he too full responsibility for the failures of NXT 2.0. He said it was him fully running the show after HHH left, not Vince or Prichard, and if anyone didn't like it they should blame him. He said they were in a tough position but did the best they could and although much of the talent was green he thought they were improving. It sounded like a eulogy of sorts even though I haven't noticed a big change, but HHH is obviously back and will have more say now in getting NXT back on track.

The principle of having a true developmental brand, featuring wrestlers who are rookies or not long past rookie status, is actually sound. The problem was killing NXT as we knew it to create NXT 2.0.

These inexperienced wrestlers should be on a show that airs on WWE Network, call it WWE Future or WWE LVL UP or whatever, giving them exposure without putting them a national TV forum well before they’re ready.

Then keep the black and gold NXT, if only to give fans something different from the main WWE product and keep all that talent from going to AEW. As a trainer alone, Regal should have been kept on. What a terrible loss.

The beauty of NXT was it was the fans' little secret, the thing that was under the radar and could tell a genuine fan from a casual. Trying to turn it into a third brand ruined what made it special. Bit like ECW.

So they got Paul Heyman to read the narration and run down the matches at the top of NXT Heatwave, which instantly made the show seem more important.  Heatwave is of course biting the old ECW PPV name.

The Dexter Lumis angle continued on NXT tonight as he apparently passed along a message that said “Index Forever” to Indie Hartwell. So that part of his back-story has not been dropped.

I saw this Zoey Stark come out for her title match against Mandy Rose.   Maybe I haven't paid enough attention or maybe because I saw a special about it recently, but Stark to me resembles Aileen Wuornos, the killer portrayed by Charlize Theron in the film "Monster".    I don't think the similar hairstyle was intentional.

WTF? On NXT UK, they’re many weeks behind having a tournament to crown a new NXT UK champion after Ilja Dragunov had to vacate due to injury. So at the end of NXT tonight, Tyler Bate comes out with the NXT UK title to confront NXT champion Bron Breakker. How about a spoiler alert? I’ve never seen WWE fuck up their continuity that badly. The tournament is still in the first round!

The rumors are that NXT UK is likely done. I think a lot of this has to do with UK employment law, and WWE may have screwed up with the contracts which would make it very difficult to get rid of some guys just to replace them with others. Soccer players get released when their contracts expire all the time, so maybe there was an issue with the wording, and the contracts are now permanent. I say this because I don't think NXT UK has ever released anyone. They fired a few people after the #SpeakOut deal, but everyone else has stayed, some going months without ever being used. If they close down the whole operation, then they can easily close the contracts, albeit they will have to pay everyone off, likely at 3-6 months of their pay, depending on how long they have been there. If NXT UK is a separate legal entity from WWE, they may be able to have it go out of business, then the government will pay the money, although they won't get as much and will have to jump through some unemployment hoops and any money they get paid from anywhere else for the next six months would be deducted and they could end up with nothing.

The last set of NXT UK tapings was cancelled because the studio was being used for the presenters for the soccer highlights show. No replacement date has been announced yet. NXT UK hasn't returned to arenas since everything reopened, which is a long time ago now in England. There is likely going to be a "premium live event" on the same weekend as All Out (possibly even head to head since Clash at the Castle is the day before) which will be NXT vs NXT UK with the titles being unified and everyone that is being kept on will move to Florida.

At a complete guess, they don't want to announce the closing of NXT UK yet since they don't want any bad will leading into Clash at the Castle.

This has been long suspected, but it really sucks.  NXT UK has been so good since Day One.  I wonder what kind of viewership it got on Peacock/WWE Network.  It's impossible to say.  Some incredible talents will be lost in the shuffle and never see the light of day on American television again.  It's already starting to happen with all the NXT 2.0 crossovers that take away limited TV time from the UK guys.

Ilja Dragunov is without a doubt my favorite wrestler of the past 2 years.  Absolutely no one combines the fantastic matches with the emotion, passion, and ability to sell and make you feel it like he does.  Even his promos, which are not good by any traditional measure, are so strong in drawing you in and wanting to see this guy pull off an upset.  And I have no idea where he can go from here.  I think he would be lost anywhere else in the WWE system or even in AEW.  That's the worst part of all this.  And now he's hurt for the end.

Hello NXT Europe

Fox News.com

WWE has its sights set on a larger international market in the coming year.

The NXT brand is set to grow even more come 2023 with the creation of NXT Europe. According to the company on Thursday, NXT Europe will "reimagine the brand and talent pipeline" with a renewed focus on Europe.

NXT UK, the company’s initial foray into Europe which launched in December 2016, will go on hiatus for a few months. WWE will run the premium live event Worlds Collide featuring the current crop of NXT and NXT UK superstars. Tyler Bate, the NXT UK champion, confronted NXT champion Bron Breakker at NXT Heatwave earlier this week while Gallus came out and ambushed Diamond Mine.

NXT UK will take part in a World's Collide event, according to Shawn Michaels.  NXT UK will then take a hiatus in advance of the launch of NXT Europe.
"So some of it, like everything with the WWE and NXT, that pipeline is always fluid. It’s going to be one of those situations where we’re going to have a lot of representation going into Worlds Collide," Michaels told Fox News Digital. "It’s what NXT has always been and that is to be a pipeline for the WWE in support of RAW and SmackDown. That process is going to continue. We’re going to use the UK talent that we can to go into Worlds Collide and keep that representation out there for as long as we can. And as we move things over here in the process, we’ll make all those decisions in 2023 about who’s a part of NXT Europe and who continues to stay here in NXT in hopes of getting a main roster call up."

WWE announced the following:

WWE® to Launch NXT® Europe In 2023
08/18/2022

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- WWE® (NYSE: WWE) today announced that the NXT brand will grow internationally with the creation of an all-new NXT Europe, with the launch planned for 2023.

“Following the success of our live events and talent identification efforts throughout all of Europe, we believe this is the perfect time to expand NXT beyond the UK,” said Shawn Michaels, WWE Vice President of Talent Development Creative.

Launched in 2016, NXT UK has received critical acclaim and developed WWE main roster talent such as Rhea Ripley, Doudrop, Gunther and Butch. NXT Europe will reimagine the brand and its talent pipeline with a Pan European focus.

Prior to the debut of NXT Europe, Worlds Collide, a premium live event featuring NXT and NXT UK Superstars, will be presented live on Sunday, September 4 at 4 p.m. ET on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else

It's weird because NXT UK is more or less NXT Europe and has been from the beginning. They might just be moving the PC to a different country within Europe that's easier to work with, but it's hardly a huge development. The biggest problem is that NXT UK seems like a minor league because it's only on Peacock for 1 hour and everything else is on TV for 2-3 hours. I prefer it this way, but perception is reality and it looks small and missable, and I assume most fans are missing it.

After Brexit it may have been harder to get wrestlers from Europe to come in because they would have needed work permits, which weren't necessary when the UK was in the EU. I'll predict that all the British wrestlers are sent to NXT I'm Florida or released, and NXT Europe will have very few if any British wrestlers.

I'm not sure how you do it without British wrestlers because 1) the UK scene is traditionally the best wrestling scene in Europe with only Germany coming close and 2) you don't have to worry about the language/culture barrier as much with the UK wrestlers.

Even the guys who are being used have only wrestled about 10 matches a year since 2019. Webster hasn't wrestled anywhere since Oct 7, 2021. The UK indie scene had pretty much died since NXT UK took all the top talent, so even though they can work indies, indies aren't booking them.

Meltzer said she’s ago that other than WALTER and a few others, these “contracts” are mostly for like $30,000-$50,000 considering how few dates they’re expected to make themselves available. Now it adds up when you have 50+ under contract, but these releases aren’t a drop in the bucket when it comes to WWE’s bottom line.

Mark Andrews, Dave Mastiff, Ashton Smith, Jack Starz, Millie McKenzie and Amale have now all announced that they have left WWE. I'd expect everyone without a title and who wasn't on NXT 2.0 this week to be gone by tomorrow.

EDIT: Add Wild Boar, Sha Samuels, Primate, Dani Luna and Nina Samuels.

Out of that list, Mastiff was the only one to get anything resembling a real push in NXT UK.

I hope they bring Noam Dar back to the States. Despite being given shit to work with, he made that Alicia Fox program on 205 Live kinda work, and he's shown a tremendous amount of both personality and wrestling skill in NXT UK. He's a keeper.

The big release today was Trent Seven, who had just turned heel and was a main event star. The speculation is that he had no interest in moving to America so was let go, although his age and body type might’ve been a bigger factor. Who knows. But that one hurts.

The story going round is that there was a choice of move to Orlando or ger released. I'm sure some were probably just released, though.

I am willing to give him a chance now that he will be reporting to HHH instead of Vince.  Shawn might've taken one for the team with his admission, even though it made little sense since he's still there and others aren't or soon won't be.  They should've been smart enough to have him NOT take that bullet and just let fans hate the outgoing regime, but I think HBK did it out of some sort of loyalty.  The truth is, his Creative sucked but there's only so much anyone could've done with the "talent" he was handed, including seemingly a dozen brand-new green as shit people being debuted on almost a weekly basis for which he (or someone) had to come up with some sort of gimmick for knowing 1) no one would care about them no matter what and 2) they wouldn't be able to pull any gimmick off.  Even with real talent, no one can stand out when so many are debuting each week, and almost no one he was given had real talent.  It must've been overwhelming and demoralizing, especially after working in HHH's real NXT and then to be put in that situation where now you're in charge but what you're in charge of just got hit with a nuclear bomb and is now radioactive rubble.

If anything good comes out of the demise of NXT UK, I hope it’s that Nigel McGuinness can be moved to a higher profile brand. WWE’s announcing is a disaster across the board with the exception of McAfee, so he can be plugged in almost anywhere and it will be an immediate improvement.

A-Kid has already been under the mask as Axiom on NXT 2.0 for those that don’t know.  He analyzes matches by using mathematical equations.  Awful gimmick.

One guy NXT UK released that I never understood why they signed was Wild Boar. This guy is tiny and has a look that the Moondogs would have rejected for being too unkempt. It was the many signings like this of guys who had zero potential for the main roster than always puzzled me about NXT UK.

NXT UK mainly existed in its own world. I don’t think Vince wanted any of them for the main roster, at least not at first. It was Phase 1 in a global expansion that was supposed to see them take over the UK indy scene, followed by doing the same in bigger markets like Japan and Mexico. It was Vince’s vision to do globally what he did to the territories in the ‘80s. This proved harder, almost impossible under the best of circumstances, and that vision died quickly. So they were left with the UK PC infrastructure and just let it be, which was great because no one knew enough to fuck it up.

As far as Wild Boar goes, he reminder as of a smaller ‘80s jobber, like Snake Brown in the NWA. He was fine in that role. He never got a push of any kind until recently, and that was a very low-on-the-card push.

Interesting Solo Sikoa just got called up to Smackdown and won
the North American title last Night. Guess that's a way the Bloodline holds all the titles. Can't give him the IC title so I guess this will do.

Starting next week dropping the 2.0 and just called NXT. New Logo

NXT UK's Oliver Carter made his NXT debut last night under the weird name Oro Mensah, beating Grayson Waller. Not sure where they came up with that name. I never felt he was one of the better guys in NXT UK, so of course he's one who they kept and moved to America.

WTF was up with them stripping Solo Sikoa of the NA belt fit a dumb reason, after he already defender it on SD? The first really stupid booking decision of the new regime. Awful.
