Macdonald’s cancer diagnosis was kept secret from the public, but he battled it for nine years.

RIP to the funniest man who ever loved as far as I'm concerned. Really, really sad about this.

This one sucks as much as John Ritter and Robin Williams dying.

Awful news. One of my favorite SNL alums ever, certainly the best "Weekend Update" host. Also one of the greatest late night talk show guests ever. An amazing talent who never quite got his due, but I consider him amongst the best comedians of all-time.

The stand up was great, the SNL stuff was great and the talk show bits were great. The Norm Mcdonald Live podcast show was the funniest thing I've ever seen and his off the cuff stuff was unmatched by anyone. He had a lot more to give, it's a shame that he didn't have the time.

Back in 1997 when I was living in Ottawa, just prior to moving to the USA, I went to a dinner party at the house of one of my roommates from College. I show up, and who is there other than Norm Macdonald. What I didn't know till I got there is that he was in town visiting his mother who lived next door. My roommates mother had also been one of Norm's teachers in HS. He actually came off more staightlaced like his brother Neil, who was a TV News Journalist for CBC. Nothing like the SNL character.

Gutted. Norm was the funniest man of the past 25 years. I can't even think who number 2 would be, such is the gulf. It makes me think of two other Canuck entertainers who died of cancer: Neil Peart and Gord Downey. Norm and Neil did a masterful job of keeping their prognosis private right through to the end, while Gord made it all about him. Well, you know the old saw, "speak ill of the dead".

This is surely the funniest guest appearance on any talk show ever, and Norm pulled it off after he had already moved down the couch. The man was brilliant.

The final line made that worth it, but there’s a much better one that’s been posted here before, but now I can’t remember anything about it.

Did any of you watch his talk show on Netflix? I only saw a few episodes, but it was funny.

At one point he convinces David Spade that they have to go to commercial. Spade is pretty sure the Netflix doesn't have commercials, but goes to break anyway. During "the break" Spade tells a funny story & Norm convinces him to tell it again after the break, which he does.

I don't know why, but I found it hilarious.

Chairman of the Board (Bored) went on to gross $180,000. The budget was apparently $10M. I guess the appearance was to promote Courtney Thorne-Smith leaving Melrose Place but that first step away from the show was straight onto an escalator going down!

Last appearance on Letterman. I remember watching this live and being so shocked to see Norm break character and get choked up. That’s preceded by a hilariously simple joke about Germany that anyone could write but only Norm could pull off with his delivery.

RIP

Dirty Work, when he calls the frat house to warn them about fake cops.

Then calls the cops on the frat house.

"Hi, REAL cops? There's loud music coming from the frat house."

When he's in jail and gets raped:

"You fellas have a lot of growing up to do, I'll tell you that. Ridiculous. Completely ridiculous. Can you believe these characters? Way out of line. Way out of line. Have a good mind to go to the warden about this. You know what hurts the most is the... the lack of respect. You know? That's what hurts the most. Except for the... Except for the other thing. That hurts the most. But the lack of respect hurts the second most."

Only he could deliver thos lines.
