RIP

He had a unique angle in Amarillo that I have never heard used anywhere else. He came to Amarillo and started challenging the Super Destroyer, the masked Art Nelson. He talked about their past and he was here for revenge, but Super Destroyer had no idea who he was. Eventually Parks revealed his true identity, putting on the mask of the Avenger. The battles they had had around the country were all kayfabe, but no one in Amarillo could have known that. It's the only time I've ever heard of a mask reveal being the putting on of the mask.

I did two pieces on him. Here's one about his career in the ring:

and another about his beltmaking:

R.I.P.

Great pieces as usual Greg. Always enjoy the read, despite the ever increasing, it seems, articles dealing with the passing of the wrestlers we grew up watching or reading about.

I've always wondered why Reggie didn't seem to be pushed more as a singles wrestler. He certainly had the look and from what I understand the talent. He did seem to be a wrestling vagabond to an extent.  Maybe that's all it was.

Thanks!
I don't think he had that drive, or maybe, that charisma to be a top guy. He was a great hand. Though I never talked to him about his first marriage, I suspect that was what kept him grounded in Omaha for so many years.

On the old OSW board, one of the questions asked in a trivia contest was
"who held the most wrestling belts ? "
The answer was Reggie Parks. None of us got the answer.

The Avenger angle with the Super Destroyer (Don Jardine) in MACW was the regular two masked guys feuding. What made it fun to me as a kid was that The Avenger was the one of only two guys who could wiggle and shimmy out of Jardine’s claw hold. The other was Rufus R Jones.

The Avenger showed up at taping and body slammed the Super Destroyer so many times after wiggling out of the claw that Jardine left the building.
