I find looking back at some former stars to be fun and this is one that I think was 'good' star but I'm not sure is 'great' (Hall Of Fame worthy) As far as I know Tito was a WWF and an AWA guy. Dont recall him spending alot of time elsewhere. Good babyface (did he ever work as a heel?) and at his peak in the mix for the Intercontinental title and tag team title. Good wrestler. Don't really recall him as even a serious world title threat although I think he had some matches vs Bockwinkle for the AWA belt. Ever work as a heel? Hall of Famer? Never a world champion?

I don't believe he ever worked heel. I thought he was one of the best guys of the WWF 80's and early 90's. And he was a guy who could always put on a good match even when there was no angle. I couldn't see him as WWF world champion back then.

I first saw him in 1980. Good wrestler. I believe he wrestled in the midwest for a bit at the start. Anyway, he tagged with Ivan Putski. Won the WWF tag titles. Santana positioned as the weaker link as Putski was a northeast staple. They lost to a buzz saw (The Samoans making their first trip in and were destroying everyone) I believe (later era) he has a crazy-bad losing record at Wrestlemania. Opposite of The Undertaker.

Never worked heel. Liked everything he did with the exception of that whole El Matador bullshit persona where he was basically a JTTS. Wasn't that keen on his WWF TT with Martel(Strike Force), though when they teamed together in the AWA I thought they were great. Didn't team together enough there though.

Very entertaining wrestling, especially in the mid ‘80’s. There was a great match that was shown during a weekday evening around 1984 between Orndorff and Santana. Great match. Like others said, he did not need any type of angle to put in a solid match. He may not have been great, but he was very good. Last edited on Tue Oct 26th, 2021 09:57 pm by Papa Voo |

I’m a big fan of Tito’s work. His matches always seem really good to me.

An all time great. He held the IC title when it really meant something. Always put it all out in the ring. You never hear anybody say a bad word about him either.

I began watching wrestling in '85 and Tito was one of my first favorite wrestlers. One of the main reasons was that he looked like a legit wrestler and not some stupid character. It was at a time I still believed wrestling to be "real" and Tito was someone who made it look real. Last edited on Tue Oct 26th, 2021 11:02 pm by Dr. Strangelove |

He has a longer run than nearly anything and the fans bought into him for it all, aside from the Matador. And even then once the bell rang he was always very likeable. If you were setting up a wrestling company you'd want someone like that. And, by the way, I've seen almost nothing of him as IC Champion. Last edited on Tue Oct 26th, 2021 11:03 pm by Jim_Irish |

I'm a big fan. I remember being a kid but glad that Zenk didn't work out and Tito took his place with Rick Martel and that he got a tag title run.

Great matches with Valentine and others, exciting tag team with Martel, fantastic match with Curt Hennig on SNME years later. I watched a clip the other day of Jacques Rougeau giving him very high praise. Looking back, I actually think he's a little underrated.

He had some good stuff in the AWA too, including a title match against Bockwinkel in Winnipeg and of course the tag with Martel vs. The High Flyers, two fantastic matches. His angle where Sheik Kaissie used the sword on him was pretty major too, but they never went too far with that feud, opting Kaissie in vs. Bockwinkel before the Tito feud had time to take off.

The Tito/Orndorff match was from St. Louis. It was on one of the first CHVs too. There's an Orndorff clothesline on Tito that almost took Tito's head off. Possibly the best clothesline I've ever seen. Tito from '84-'86 was absolutely terrific. Great matches against Muraco, Valentine of course, and really awesome stuff against Savage.

One of the great workers of the late '70s to mid '80s, and criminally underrated. His flying forearm looked so good too, not even Shawn Michaels could come close to duplicating it.
