Watching/listening this podcast, you can see how much of a carny Flair is. Madden asks Flair at one point what's the most matches he's ever wrestled in one calendar year. Flair doesn't hesitage, "382!" Madden's like, "Seriously?". Flair, "Remember, Mark, twice on Saturday, twice on Sunday, every weekend. I'd work Nikita in the third match in Raleigh than hop on a charter and wrestle the main event against Dusty in Atlanta. Hell, maybe it was 392." Later, Flair's talking about wrestling Hogan in WCW after Hogan went back to the red and yellow in '99: "We sold out the United Center, $482,000 gate, then we went to Milwaukee, smaller arena, $230,000, then we went to the Palace on a Sunday afternoon, $365,000." LOL Flair doesn't hesitage on any of those numbers. Just spits those out like they're gospel, but you know he made that all up off the top of his head.

i would love for someone to show me one year with flair working just 365 matches in one year. Sure he did double shots. But not every single saturday and sunday. And he was not wrestling 3 times on TV tapings.

And he was not wrestling 3 times on TV tapings.I went and looked in claws forum at his ring record, and picked 1982 as an example year to count the matches he wrestled. I counted 343 for the year 1982 (unscientific counting on my part of course, the number could be a bit off.) That’s an astounding number, so I suppose looking further into it it’s not impossible he could have exceeded that. I did pick the heart of his territory days run as NWA champion though, and his first full year as champ, so maybe that was his busiest year given how thing started to change in later years.

I just had a look at the Clawmaster forum and pulled the info into excel. 357 matches for 1981. The data needs a bit of work to make it easy to count matches by year but at a quick check this looks to be his busiest year.

He worked 357 matches at one point, then I'm going to give him credit if he exaggerated a bit. It's close enough to checking out, even if it was his busiest year. That's a hell of a lot better than Hogan saying he wrestling 16 times a day due to time differences.

Yep, of anything you can criticise Flair for, misremembering or exaggerating/overcounting the amount of matches he has had is pretty weak. Did he happen to divulge the private medical problems of any of his friends on this podcast?

And if someone is wrestling 357 matches in a year then they are on the road nearly every single day, if not every single day. So it could certainly feel like working EVERY day. Also, I only looked at calendar years, there may be 365 day periods around that time where he worked MORE. Last edited on Fri Nov 19th, 2021 02:43 pm by Jim_Irish |

Flair has lied before but his schedule in the 80s was insane. Just reading it over will make your head spin.

Hate bumping old threads, but I've been watching/listening to the YouTube clips of this show. Madden does reasonably. He's prepared and knowledgeable, but my god Flair is such a child. Going back to the same old stories on every show in almost every clip about drinking and the Marriott, 18-28, no boyfriends or husbands. If you've read his book or listening to a few interviews in the past with Conrad, none of this is ground-breaking or new. The shelf life on this podcast can't be too long. It's the same shit every week.

Name the best 10 female tennis players of all time: Madden: #10 Serena Williams, #9Donnie Shell, #8 Mike Webster, #7 Franco Harris, #6 Raiders were a pseudodynasty, #5 Immaculate Reception, #4 Jack Ham, #3 Mel Blount, #2 Terry Bradshaw, and the greatest female tennis player of all time... Steel Curtain Defense!

Seeing him try to reign in Flair and have some semblance of a conversation with the man-child is amusing though.

And honestly, the latter is true for a big segment of wrestling fans.
