U2 is one of those bands which is usually a love or hate decision.  It seems much of the negativity of the band is associated with the lead singer Bono.   It seems Bono likes to support high taxes as an effective means to fight poverty, but but he and the band have found several ways to avoid paying taxes.  Bono wears the Hypocrite sign in many circles. Talking the talk but not walking the walk.

Do we have any U2 fans on the board?  What do you think of their music?  Do you have any favorite U2 albums or songs?

I can honestly say that I have not encountered too many admitted U2 fans in my life, but they do sell out huge venues.

Here are some of their more famous songs:

“One”
“Mysterious Ways”
“Beautiful Day”
“With or Without You”
“Pride (In The Name Of Love)”
“New Year’s Day”
“I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”
“Sunday Bloody Sunday”

Bullet the blue sky is my favorite U2 song but i like it more when Queensryche is the one singing it.

I don't turn them off when I hear a song but they aren't a "Favourite" of mine.

Bono seems the type that thinks his shit doesn't stink. Don't know if that's true or not, just what it looks like from here.

I like their early stuff up to, and including, The Joshua Tree, which is one of my favourite albums of all time. Everything after that, I can’t stand. And I can’t stand Bono either.

Pretty much this. Lots of good music in U2's catalog but Bono is such a fucking asshole it outweighs my need to listen to any of U2's songs on any kind of regular basis.

Like many celebrities Bono talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.

“Joshua Tree” is one of the most overrated albums ever, and in general I think their ‘80s stuff is fine but nothing special. Then the ‘90s came and their stuff was pure shit. In 2000, I was surprised at how much I liked “All That You Can’t Leave Behind”, which I think is their strongest album too to bottom. I mostly lost track of them after that but I know they raped my phone and left a forgettable album that no one ever would’ve bought on it a few years back.

Bono is a pretentious fuck.

Their music is okay but that’s about it to me.

He is a very smart and well spoken and gives opinions on things and I think that rubs people the wrong way. He does think he's cool though. I will take him over Kid Rock any day.

I was never a fan, but they have a few songs I like. They just weren't my style.

All I Want is You is a great song. I like With or Without You & Pride too, but I despise a lot of their hits.

I'm about the same as this. Not a band I'd ever decide to listen to but if they are on the radio lots of their stuff is fine.
I'll give them credit for having a very distinct sound in the 80s and changing things up a few times over their 40 year career. They also put on a great live show. I still prefer the 80s stuff, then it's pretty patchy for me, though a guilty pleasure is the batman song they did.

Achtung Baby was probably my favorite album of theirs. Joshua Tree was OK but known mostly for its hit singles. Zooropa was kinda like Achtung but not as good. Of their early singles, I liked "New Years Day."

Overall I like some of their music (probably up to the mid-90's because I'm not really familiar with their work afterwards), but they do have a pretentious air about them and their fans could be obnoxious, like one of my high school/college buddies.

Like most acts with longevity, there are a handful of tracks worth listening to, but I'd never go out of my way to seek them out.

I think they've had the longest-ever run of any group that has never changed its line-up. At least as U2 (they were a six-piece as Feedback and five-piece as The Hype). Same foursome since 1978.

You're probably right, I can't think of anyone else. The Four Tops original lineup was together longer I think, but obviously they've changed in more recent years.
