Mustafa Ali posted a brief video message saying he has a message to deliver that is bigger than wrestling and he won’t be able to do it while with WWE, so he respectfully requests his release. WWE has not responded but I can’t imagine them reacting well to the way this was broadcast. Ali was last used in October when he and Mansoor split. Mansoor handily won the feud with victories in Saudi Arabia and on Smackdown. Ali then was squashed by Drew McIntyre a week later and has been MIA ever since.

Battle royals and tag team with Cesaro that seems like it was two names drawn from a hat.

Given all the recent injuries, and the probable release of Mustafa Ali, the Smackdown roster is looking a little thin right now. Smackdown 1) Roman Reigns (Universal Champion) 2) Shinsuke Nakamura (w/Rick Boogs) (Intercontinental Champion) 3) Happy Corbin (w/Madcap Moss) 4) Sheamus 5) Cesaro 6) Ricochet 7) Kofi Kingston 8) Sami Zayn 9) Mansoor 10) Drew Gulak 11) Mace Injured – Drew McIntyre Injured – Xavier Woods Injured – Ridge Holland Women 1) Charlotte (Smackdown Women’s Champion) 2) Shayna Baszler 3) Shotzi 4) Natalya 5) Naomi 6) Xia Li 7) Aliyah Injured – Sasha Banks Smackdown Tag Team 1) The Usos (Smackdown Tag Team Champions) 2) Viking Raiders 3) Los Lotharios (Humberto Carrillo/Angel Garza) 4) Jinder Mahal/Shanky

Sean Ross of Fightful reports: As Ali revealed weeks ago, there was a vignette filmed for a Mustafa Ali “New America” gimmick that looked promising for the star. According to those in the know, initially the character was accepted, before those in power in WWE changed their mind. We’re told that in its place, there was a pitch from Vince McMahon for “something Mustafa Ali would never have done,” and it led to a heated argument between the two. Ali hasn’t been around since. This led to Ali asking for a few shows off, and Vince granted the request and then basically never had him come back. With no plan in sight for his return, Ali finally asked for his release publicly.

Are the injuries on Smackdown the reason why Seth Rollins showed up on Smackdown? I thought Smackdown wrestlers stay on Smackdown and Raw wrestlers stay on Raw. You are correct. Raw and SmackDown Superstars only meet on one night of the year, Survivor Series. That's what makes it so special.

Sean Ross reports that WWE is adamant that they will not let Ali out of his contract, and he has as many as 3 years left which does not deplete until he ends his work stoppage, so essentially he has to give in or retire. Ali is already 35 and any sort of long holdout will pretty much take him to 40 before he’s a free agent, so he’s kind of screwed. Ross says WWE is fully prepared to play hardball with him.

If they stick to this, it will make it hard for them to justify any more roster cuts in the next 3 years.

When have they ever justified anything? They'll do what they want to do, and no way Vince will still own the company or likely even be alive in 3 years. The terms of WWE contracts are so outrageous that I really don't know how, in 2022 and with all the labor laws around today and under the scrutiny of people like Andrew Yang, this is allowed to continue. You're an "independent contractor" who has to do exactly what the company says, they can release you at any time, you can't leave unless they let you, and if you get injured or have a labor dispute your contract is frozen until you can work again. I can't think of another human being in the free world who works under the conditions of a WWE Superstar. Kim Jong-un would be like, "That's a little harsh."

They have treated people terribly over the years but lately it's reached new lows. Hiring people, getting them to move, letting them go. These contracts can't be legal, they are so one sided. They've got WALTER to finally move to the USA, they'll fire him within a year too.

Employment law is very lax in the US, and heavily weighted towards the employer.

Yes, employment law in the USA cannot compare to basically anywhere in Europe. But even still the WWE contracts seem even more one sided. You're an independent contractor who is tied to a contract which the employer can terminate for no reason at any point. Plus there's a nong compete clause. Plus they get other image rights etc. Plus they either own or stop you using twitter, YouTube etc for monetary gain, did I read that? Last edited on Fri Jan 21st, 2022 04:17 pm by Jim_Irish |

It's very hard to get fired in Europe. And if it's not done completely by the book and the person who's fired takes a case they will win 9 times out of 10.
