AEW, NXT, ROH, and even GCW seem to have threads about them where we can stick in any tidbits or thoughts that don't deserve their own topic, so I thought we should have one for WWE as well. I'll start with maybe the only positive that will ever be in here. Last night as I was alternately ignoring and fast forwarding through Raw, I came across the AJ Styles vs. Austin Theory match. It was given tons of time and they let Styles be Styles again for the first time in 2+ years. It was a great TV match, better than most matches they've had on PPV of late. I missed a good deal of it because I was so not expecting to need to pay attention to it, as WWE trained me that nothing matters and no matches will be good, but as it went on I began to realize that it was a pretty special match. Worth going out of your way to check out, and I'll have to try to watch all of it again. The only thing is, I had no idea who the heel or face was in the match, ad if I figured it out they might change it again next week. Then the show ended with everyone throwing themselves over the top rope for no reason just because it's Royal Rumble season, and all was right with the world again.

Have WWE given up on Omos? If they were pushing him as the second coming of Andre the Giant, then surely he should be winning the Royal Rumble (or kept out of it completely), but I don't think he was mentioned once last night on the go home show, and his entry into the Rumble was only announced yesterday, and on Twitter at that.

I would imagine he gets 6 or 7 eliminations of jobbers before being eliminated himself. He'll be in the Kane spot, even though he doesn't deserve it.

I hope they don't book a spot where Omos almost gets eliminated, because he's so clumsy, and his centre of gravity is so high, that he might fall out of the ring by mistake.

Peak WWE. They had a spelling bee for some reason and Otis legit forgot how to spell the word he was supposed to get right. The first botched spelling spot in wrestling history? Meltzer explains like a 12-year-old: “You didn’t hear? Oh my god! You missed the biggest thing in the thing! He spelled it wrong, but because it was scripted that he spelled it right, they said he spelled it right! So, they played that gong thing, so it was said that he won, you know, he spelled it right. Because in the script, he was going to spell it right. And he forgot how to spell it legit. Spelled it wrong and then they pretended… Nobody said anything. Then after, because I guess probably, the word got back that people figured this out, that Corey Graves had to go in there and go, ‘Oh, by the way… They didn’t say he spelled it wrong, even though he did. Otis got garbled when he was spelling it and therefore it’s not a correct answer and actually, Orton and Riddle win two to nothing and not two to one. So, no, he did not spell it right.”

Why does Smackdown sound like I'm listening to it through a wind tunnel? Is that WWE trying to pump in crowd noise?

It’s sad that WWE is now running these Rumble retrospective packages without the slightest mention of Flair in ‘92 at all. Completely erased from history.

Yeah, outside of Benoit, they should be showing all of the winners at least briefly. That's what makes it fun. I don't remember seeing Big John Studd go by either.

I didn't rewind my DVR last night to check, but did Kayla Braxton say that Big E is officially back on Smackdown, or did I mishear that?

From the Observer site: Vicki Askew, the mother of WWE chairman Vince McMahon, has passed away at 101 years old. An obituary for Askew states that she "passed away quietly of natural causes in her sleep at home in The Woodlands, TX" on January 20. Funeral services were held on January 22, and there will be a private burial for Askew in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania at a later date. Askew died on the one-year anniversary of Rod McMahon's passing. Rod was Askew's son and Vince McMahon's brother. Askew is survived by one son, four grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Her husband Harold Askew died in 2010. Askew was an avid tennis player. The Ebensburg Tennis Center in Pennsylvania was dedicated to her after Vince McMahon and the McMahon Family Foundation donated $2.5 million to build the facility. The idea for the tennis center originated from Harold Askew calling Vince after being concerned that Vicki had to drive 22 miles in the winter to play tennis in Altoona. The Ebensburg center opened in 2007. Askew would have turned 102 years old this July.
