Nope. Still a grifter. Trump is probably not the criminal element like they try to paint him, but he sure in the hell isn’t the American Savior like some believe.

I wouldn't say my opinion of him changed, but I've certainly become ever more comfortable with the idea that his time has come and gone. His successes as President were modest from a policy perspective, mostly in the area of energy independence. He was also very successful in moving the discussion of certain topics out of the shadows -- somewhat. Immigration is of course the biggest one. Another, although he never talked about it in such terms, is the decimation of large swaths of this country by ripping the industrial base out of it. It would have been better if he'd asked us to discuss whether a life of purpose and labor is more important than one of cheap consumer goods. But at least, for all his NYC glitz, one got the sense that he shared an actual affinity for the people in flyover country, in stark contrast to nearly every other Washington pol. But he was never going to be much more than a wrecker, and even there he seemed just a bit too reluctant to lose the good graces of the other Cloud People. Some of that was surely a result of Ivana and her (((husband))) having his ear. So I think my opinion of his Presidential performance hasn't changed much in the past year. I'm dead set against him running again in 2024, although I think if he meets with any resistance in the primary season, he'll fold his tent. The only thing that's really turned me off in the last year is his insistence that the vaccines are something to brag about. He's really not reading the room well on that score.

Why would it have changed? My opinion of Bush still hasn’t changed even though liberals love him now. Just because the next incompetent comes along doesn’t make the last clown any better. Trump was more exhausting than anything else. That’s what I don’t miss most. Waking up in the morning and having the tweet or quote of the day to hear about ad nauseum, which didn’t affect policy in the least, until the next day when it would be something totally different but equally absurd. The media of course loved that shit, but so did Trump. They were equally complicit in the fatigue. His followers loved it and his detractors loved to hate it. Spatulapup is proof of that. It was a crappy sitcom to them. I wasn’t amused in the least. Unless Biden falls asleep or forgets where he is, you rarely hear about him directly. And I’m fine with that.

Exhausting is the right word.

I think the only people who changed their opinion were people directly involved in the Capitol Riots. Maybe some of their relatives as well, but certainly not all.

Recent polls amongst Republicans show his numbers plummeting in almost every category. He's rapidly losing women, the college-educated, the uneducated, the poor, evangelicals. The shine seems to have come off the turd. The Trump 2024 flags almost seem to be more trollish and anti-Biden than pro-Trump at this point, and it doesn't seem like he has a serious chance if he runs again. In fact, when I was driving around Florida a couple of weeks ago, I saw almost exclusively "Let's Go Brandon" stuff and almost no Trump stuff. You can say that's pro-Trump, but it's really just trying to be the cool kid trolling Biden. People are getting over it and looking for the next guy.

I should have mentioned this too. His seeming unwillingness to go to bat for the political prisoners being held in the aftermath of 1/6 is not helping him with many former supporters.

I agree somewhat with KGB and srossi. Trump has lost his focus. For a guy that got to become President using his family and other marketing experts to create a brand and messaging, he sure is not following that success for another possible run. I think like anything else his message got old and stale. I would expect them to come up with a new marketing strategy if he is going to run, again.

I used to get a kick out of Trump, between WrestleMania 4 and all those commercials he did in the '90s. I didn't vote for him in 2016, but was hopeful he'd be surprisingly boring. But as others mentioned, he was totally exhausting. I don't see evidence that he has finally matured at the age of 75, so I still have a negative view and hope he stays out of 2024.

I think the Trump from the '80s or early '90s would've made a decent president. I'm not sure what happened to him, if it's the dementia setting in or he just got his ass kissed so much over the years and bought into it and completely forgot how to act and think like a human being, but Trump now is insufferable. People forget that even though he always had an arrogant, flamboyant side to him, he was often a low-key, thoughtful speaker a few decades ago.
