I guess we can start this tonight with what is being called "Wrestlemania Smackdown" live from Dallas.

We kick things off with the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.  The ring is already filled with jobbers and underutilized talents and we cut to a short video on Andre.

NXT's Tommaso Ciampa is in this thing.  Dolph Ziggler/Robert Roode and Finn Balor are the only stars to get their own entrances.

Madcap Moss tosses Balor to win it and we’re off to a hideously bad start.  The whole thing lasted maybe 8 minutes.

It’s time for the I-C title 3-way, Ricochet vs. Angel Garza vs. Humberto Carillo.

Everyone on this show is wearing new gear and imagine spending that money and winding up stuck on SD.  The Viking Raiders probably spent their whole paychecks on gear to get 30 seconds of screen time in a battle royal on free TV.

Ricochet retains in a decent match that would’ve been better if anyone knew who the other 2 guys were.  The finish was pretty spectacular.

Without question, Ricochet is the king of the spectacular flippy moves in WWE.

Has any champion (or champions) jobbed more than Zelina and Carmella leading up to any PPV match?  Good grief, they are like 24/7 title jobbers at this point.

Charlotte with a promo and man is her mic work brutal.

Next is another video package promoting Lesnar vs. Reigns. Who would pay to be there live to watch all these commercials? This is awful. I should be watching ROH live instead.

Pat McAfee on the desk playing air guitar to Boogs when Austin Theory attacks him out of nowhere. That was the first unexpected thing so far all night. McAfee chases Theory to the back and he hides in Vince’s office. McAfee kicks the door in and Vince threatens to fire him if he doesn’t go back to commentary and do his job.

The match by the way is Boogs vs. Jimmy Uso.

Like a lot of guys in this company the past couple of years, I look at Rick Boogs and I think this guy could be a real star.  Oh wait, we're interrupted by another Austin Theory Pat McAfee backstage chase.  This time we get a Vince cameo.

Nakamura and Fred Arcidi's walkout is interrupted by Austin Theory sweeping the leg of the table dancer.   Vince must like short distance track races with all this chasing around.

Boogs press slammed Uso from his knees, stood up, and then turned it into a fall away slam. That was impressive.

Match gets thrown out in chaos as Theory attacks McAfee again and then Balor runs in and prevents Theory from running away again. Everyone brawls as we go to commercial.

Corbin makes fun of McIntyre’s dead mother. McIntyre runs in and clowns the Andre Battle Royal winner with one punch, then beats up Corbin and slices a table with his sword. Who did McIntyre piss off to wind up in this mess.

2022 HOF - Undertaker, Vader, Steiner Brothers, Sharmell.  Warrior Award - Shad Gaspard.  No disrespect to any of these folks, but this has to be the weakest HOF class ever.  A small class, and only one person had a lengthy run in WWE.

We’re on Peacock and back at SD where we apparently have to stall for 15 minutes for them to set up the stage, as if they couldn’t have done that while Corbin was wasting everyone’s time in the ring.

Maria Menounos is there and apparently just stepped out of the shower. Time for a video package. Sharmell broke glass ceilings for those wondering. Oh, yes she did.

A really good video package on past HOFs, including the early ones that usually get overlooked with Albano, Blassie, Patterson, etc.

Kane is in the house talking about ‘Taker but he’s not inducting him. You can’t hear the interview though because apparently RVD just took his seat in the arena and the fans are losing their minds chanting for him. Still more over than anyone on the roster in 2022.  When they go back to ringside, McAfee has to acknowledge that “RVD got a hell of a pop” but I don’t think they even put him on camera.

WWE awkwardly tried to talk about “Steiner Math” during the video package without use of TNA footage. Michael Hayes butchers the history of the Frankensteiner.

Bron Brekker is inducting his father and uncle and he looks ridiculous in a tux.

This looks like a budget production compared to what we used to get 3-4 years ago.  Even my Peacock feed is blocky most of the time like I'm not watching in HD or something.

They didn’t include in Goldberg’s package a quote by Bret Hart saying he was an unsafe worker, but they did with Vader. Great choice for a HOF package.

Vince reads a list of a few dozen Undertaker opponents and says he’ll read them quickly so he doesn’t get interrupted, which prompts 90 seconds of rapid-speed “What” chants after every name, except a brief respite for a “Whoo” after Flair’s name.

Yeah I kinda started zoning out on my phone after Kane, came back for HBK and HHH and then whatever.

Some people posting clips on YouTube now...

This was HHH's walk out on the stage.  Linda looks like she's had about $300,000 of plastic surgery, and why does HBK always sit next to Linda?

My random replies all in one post...
srossi wrote: Charlotte with a promo and man is her mic work brutal.
Charlotte seems like she could be good on the mic if she is unscripted, but she has no ability to deliver a believable scripted promo She's been doing this a long time, so I can't see any chance that she's gonna improve, or even that she's trying to improve.

Boz1515 wrote:Like a lot of guys in this company the past couple of years, I look at Rick Boogs and I think this guy could be a real star.
I started a post about the then Eric Bugenhagen after his first appearance on NXT many moons ago. I thought he was a future WWE champion, and maybe he will be, but given how many less talented sports entertainers have been given much bigger and faster pushes, and his age, his time is running out, and he may sadly get stuck in mid-card comedy limbo. The guy clearly has "it."

srossi wrote:Apparently Sharmell vs. The Boogryman is a classic feud, and I wouldn’t have remembered that one for a million bucks before they reminded me.
From my memory, Booker feuded with the Boogeyman, while Sharmell feuded with Little Boogeyman, leading to a tag team match which was every bid as bad as it sounds.

srossi wrote:It’s finally over. Undertaker gave a good speech at the beginning but I lost interest the last 15 minutes. His entire segment went an hour and 5 minutes and his speech went about 45 minutes. He really took himself seriously that’s for sure.
With so much actual wrestling this weekend that I want to see, this recap is enough for me and I will be skipping the HOF.

srossi wrote:I think Jesse White may have done some wrestling, not sure.
He did some indie work, and also appeared for All Japan before signing for WWE where he was Jake Carter in the early days of NXT at Full Sail. Like many PC guys who didn't have a proper career before NXT, he pretty much quit wrestling after being released and hasn't wrestled since 2015.

When Rick Boogs dreamed of being a professional wrestler, he probably never thought he would be doing a guitar solo in front of a stadium crowd.  Still cool though.

I’m genuinely happy for Boogs. I saw him in front of 300 people in EVOLVE and if this is as good as it gets for him, it’s a cool moment.

Boogs seems to have legit blown out his knee in the opening seconds. What a bummer. And they go home presumably early and The Usos won as Nakamura tries to fight by himself. I can’t imagine this was the booking.

Meltzer is complaining that it was worse than a SD match but I give them a pass due to injury. Jimmy and Nakamura were clearly talking trying to figure out how to go home. I don’t know how much time they originally had, maybe no more than they used, but it’s hard to judge. It turned into a clusterfuck.

Anyway, up next is McIntyre vs. Corbin.

For the record, Brad Shepherd reports that both nights of WM are 80% sold, meaning that this is far from a sell out. We’ll see what attendance numbers they make up, but it’s disappointing to put 55,000 fans into a stadium that holds 80,000.  They could’ve sold 80,000 tickets to 1 show, but 2 in a row is tough even for WM.

McIntyre of course beats Corbin. He kicked out of End of Days, which was supposed to be a first, but honestly they never established that move well enough to make it as big a deal as they wanted it to be. The match was nothing special.

McIntyre again tried to murder someone with his sword and instead cuts the ropes of the ring. Super lame.

Miz pins Rey in a match much better than it had any right to be. I was expecting some dissension between the Misterios to lead to the loss though.

After the match, Miz turns on Paul. I have no idea why.

But the logan brothers make too much money in sports entertainment boxing to waste time in wrestling
But logan was impressive as a heel and rey and miz did well helping him...

Dominik needs to go to NXT or wwe send him to mexico like an excursion like how japan use to do some of the wrestlers back in the day

Meltzer: “Oh well, for all those people who thought nobody would react to him or they'd think he was a midcarder, didn't work out like that.”

The place came unglued.

The announcers tried to bill it as Dusty’s prized pupil vs. his son.

Rollins: “Welcome back to the big leagues, bitch.”

Michael Cole gives an update on Rick Boogs and says he has both a torn quad and patella. So it will be a long recovery.

Officially attendance announced is 77,899, completely fabricated.  Did 77,900 seem too unrealistic?

Flair. It’s online and it’s not worth looking for. The Peacock feed did go black twice because of it. It was while her back was arched in the Figure-8.

Owens says he doesn’t want to talk, he wants to fight. He challenges Austin to a match. He says it’s been 19 years and his neck, knees, and back were shot even back then, but he should be fine other than that. He wants a no-DQ match.

Austin and Owens put on a credible streetfight that goes all over the floor and up and down the ramp. Mostly punch-kick but Austin took just enough bumps to make it seem like a real match. Austin kicks out of the stunner and wins with one of his own. This was better than it had any right to be.  Bust when Austin hit the ringpost, a blade job here would’ve made all the difference to take this to another level. This was the EXACT match that needed it.

Austin invites Byron Saxton into the ring to drink beer with him, and of course stuns him. He then drinks beer with his real-life brother in the ring and sadly doesn’t stun him.  Fade to black and we’re done. Not a bad show at all.

Not sure what happened, but the New Day vs. Sheamus and Holland was cut. Some are saying they ran too many video packages and went over, but I find that hard to believe. 3 of the 4 are veterans that you wouldn't think would be cut like this.  We'll see if they can squeeze it in tomorrow.

Meltzer says WM is officially 2 days again next year, April 1-2, and probably every year after that at this point.

Who had the slip - Flair or Rousey?

Flair. It’s online and it’s not worth looking for. The Peacock feed did go black twice because of it. It was while her back was arched in the Figure-8.
Thought you were gonna say Charles Robinson. LOLOL

Ask and ye shall receive.  PWInsider says TJ Wilson and Molly Holly produced the match.  Wilson started back with WWE again in the last few weeks after a hiatus, and I didn't even know Holly was working backstage at all.

Sources say multiple matches ran long and by that point in the show there was nothing else they could trim.

Variety is reporting that one of the things Cody Rhodes got for returning to WWE was Executive Producer credit on an upcoming A&E Biography on Dusty Rhodes, which was very important to him.

PWInsider:

For those who have asked, we are told Adam Pearce and Shane Helms trained and prepared Logan Paul for his Wrestlemania 38 tonight, teaming with The Miz against the Mysterios. They obviously did a hell of a job as Paul looked like he'd been wrestling for some time and showed some really great natural instincts as a heel.

Helms and Pearce also produced tonight's tag team bout.

We went out last night so I’m just now finishing night one. Really good show with a few surprises. Agreed that Logan Paul should be signed but it won’t happen, but the kid looked great and gets it. Awesome match with Becky and Bianca. Cody’s return got an unreal pop, and helluva match with Rollins. And I was really surprised Austin actually had a match and did a great job for being out so long. Here’s hoping they can deliver on night two.

No idea.  Also, these Sunday shows need to start a little earlier in the day.  I can't be staying up till 1am to watch this.

HHH might’ve lost 60 pounds of muscle, which is obvious even in a suit. Other than that he looks good. He dies his water-spitting entrance and the fans are eating it up.

HHH soaks in the cheers for more than 5 minutes only to say “Thank you” and “Welcome to Wrestlemania”. Pyro and he leaves his boots in the ring to retire in style. He hugs his kids at ringside.

Gable Steveson is introduced for the 2nd night in a row. He’s sitting in the crowd next to Dana Warrior, poor guy.

It’s 8:17 and we might finally get a match. RK-Bro out first to defend the Tag titles against Alpha Academy and Street Profits.

Why eould he get a huge pop...he is not really famkus besides wwe hyping him and the belly to belly would be more impressive if that was otis rather than chad

RK-Bro and the Profits try to have a solo cup toast. They invite Steveson into the ring to drink with them for some contrived reason. Gable slaps the cup out of his hand. Steveson belly-to-belly throws him, so it looks like he’s probably wrestling Gable tomorrow on Raw.

Not bad match..besides the one spot but that was the best omos has looked to be honest in terms of looking strong..
And for omos sake this was the best thing to happen for him...so he can now have better laid out matches now that he has been taken off his feet and lost

PWInsider:

During his media scrum today in Dallas, newly minted WWE star Cody Rhodes noted that part of his agreement to come into WWE included Rhodes becoming Executive Producer on the currently filming Dusty Rhodes A&E Biography.

Cody noted during the discussion that he would have appeared in the documentary even before he signed back with WWE.

PWInsider.com has confirmed that AEW President Tony Khan had authorized both Cody and Dustin Rhodes to appear in the documentary and that Dustin will still be interviewed for the documentary.

Cody noted that the film would be a rare case of all four of Dusty's children appearing in the same project.

The Dusty film will be part of the second season of Biographies. The only other project confirmed for the second round of docs is WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik.

Edge with a really cool Brood-HHH mash-up entrance.  In his new persona he’s not using Metalingus anymore, but for this match he’s using another Alter Bridge song “The Other Side” as Myles Kennedy’s voice is unmistakable.

That was my thought that it was something to do with the pyro. I didn’t notice it live but am glad it wasn’t anything more than a spot on his face.

Edge pins AJ with a spear out of the Phenomenal Forearm attempt. AJ was briefly distracted by Damian Priest’s presence, although he didn’t interfere. It was a good match, but pretty slow.  Edge and Priest are in some sort of alliance now.

Sorry but we don’t need another Undertaker entrance. They should’ve given the extra 5 minutes to the last match. They didn’t even bother bringing the Steiners out again, just ‘Taker. Enough already.

Time for Theory vs. McAfee. I expect McAfee to do very well here, but Theory is no Adam Cole to carry him.  Ridiculous that they can’t refer to that match anymore.

McAfee gets a tremendous entrance to “Seven Nation Army” with the Cowboys cheerleaders. The fans are way into this.  Then he punts a football into the crowd.

McAfee wins with a roll up in a match that the fans were into as much as anything this weekend, including Austin. But it ended before it ever kicked into gear and McAfee did far less here than he did against Adam Cole. Disappointing this didn’t get more time.

Austin asks for some beers. Austin with the boot and Vince staggers into the ropes. It takes a LOT of effort for Austin to finally hit the stunner and Austin is laughing. Vince really shouldn’t be taking that bump anymore. Austin and McAfee drink beers.  Austin stuns McAfee. DTA.

Ryback says this is the last WM that Vince will own the company before selling and that’s why he booked himself in a match and one last confrontation with Austin. It’s Ryback so you can’t take that seriously, but it makes sense.

On the Vince vs. MaAfee stuff, I think this was likely always the plan and Meltzer just got half the story at the beginning from a source who probably heard half a conversation.  Or Vince wanted to wrestle but hadn’t figured out how to get there yet. The way they did it made a lot more sense than just having Vince wrestle, so if he added the Theory part as a swerve, thank God he did. Bringing back Austin, who was never even teased to have anything to do with Vince this go-around, was really a great surprise, even if the execution was predictably awful.  But it got a monster pop and even Austin was laughing his ass off in the ring at how bad Vince was, so it was all a lot of fun.

I have mixed feelings on the Vince/Austin thing after watching a clip this morning.  It was cringeworthy bad to see Vince like this, but at the same time everyone seemed to love it and eat it up.  I always want to remember guys in their prime years though.  I didn’t really care for seeing Bret come back and wrestle at that Phoenix Wrestlemania show a decade or so ago.  This felt kinda like that.  McAfee is great though.  Theory did the HBK/Hennig oversell when Austin stunned him.  I might need to watch the entire show though.  Sounds like it was ok.

McAfee did a bigger oversell on the stunner than Theory, and was marking out the entire time.  There's a gif of him on the floor selling after the stunner while pouring beer in his mouth.  No one has ever been happier to be stunned, and good for him.  He's a legit fan.  The whole thing was ridiculous fun, and since Vince always took awful stunners (his very first one at MSG in 1998 to start a 25 year feud was atrocious too), I didn't find this as sad as Bret trying to wrestle after a stroke.

OK, good April Fools joke. When's the real WrestleMania?

I jest, of course it was a good event, made great by the fans who ate up every minute of it. It's become an entertainment spectacle based on wrestling now. And that's fine if that's what you want. Sort out the writing, and WWE is good for years to come.

What has happened to the women of WWE, though? They all look like they work at the Moulin Rouge now. Crazy make-up, bizarre hair. The "hottest" woman on the roster wrestles in a mask that is the stuff of nightmares. Even Jerry Lawler would struggle to get excited about any of this. Not saying that they are supposed to be made sex objects, but I don't get the idea of making them all look like weird art projects.

It wasn't enough to reignite any interest in WWE for me though. I'm glad that there's plenty of wrestling that I enjoy every week that I won't miss it.

I'm OK with that, and that's what it's always been.  Where they go wrong is trying to provide an entertainment spectacle minus any entertainment.  This weekend, the entertainment was actually entertaining.  And it was fun.  And by the way, there was some good wrestling in a couple of matches too.

OK - so where does Brock go from here? Reigns winning was the right move, but what do we do with Brock? And how do you get one belt off of Reigns without costing him the other belt?

I'm hoping they just have 1 World championship with Reigns working both brands, or end this awful brand split completely.  2 World titles in 1 company is absurd.

You are hoping what we've all hoped since 2003, but they sell too many replica belts to kill off a Championship.  Plus, I don't believe that Reigns is the guy that should be on both shows every week.  You don't want to break him.  If it ends up being the way Brock set the standard, which is, you don't have to be on the show every week to be Champion, then Reigns would work on both brands.  I still don't think the World Champ or Universal Champ should be on TV every week because why would you want to pay to see them when you watch them for free all the time?  But I still live in a day where the house shows mattered and they do not anymore.

They need to book it wisely of course, if they know how any more.  More promos than matches.  Have Heyman show up sometimes instead of him.  Don't over-expose him.  But he's the only legit draw who's a full-timer right now, so whatever brand doesn't have him has no main eventer.  He can do both shows if they're smart about it.  Lesnar's last run was good but he has to go away for a while to stay special.

Roman Reigns appeared to have suffered an injury during his match with Brock Lesnar at WWE WrestleMania 38 Sunday.

At the end of the match, Reigns could be heard telling Paul Heyman something "is out" and it appeared he was talking about his shoulder and could explain why the finish of the match felt a little flat. Reigns also struggled to hold up one of the titles at first when celebrating his win.

I took all of that to be 100% work and within the logic of the match.  We will see.

I haven't watched a WrestleMania in over 25 yrs. I wanted to check out the Rousey/Flair match. It was good but Belair/Lynch blew it away. Wasn't interested in Rhodes/Rollins but I was glued to my seat watching it. Knoxville/Zayn had my sister and myself laughing out loud. I laughed when I saw Paul Heyman's fat fingers slowly pushing the ropes towards Reigns. When Austin showed up day 2 I thought it went on too long.

Work or not, it could actually lead to two major tournaments to crown two separate champions again.  I'm guessing Fox and USA both want a champion, and it would fill the world title scene with something new for weeks.  Honestly, where would Roman go from here, especially with both belts?

Just finished it and enjoyed it. Don't disagree with much of what has already been said though I'm a little torn on a few things they did.

Anyway, some very brief highlists for me...

Loved Logan Paul. I never saw him do anything before. He was great. The Miz turning on him sucked.

Becky v Bianca was great.

Cody and Rollins was great. Rollins character is awful but he's brilliant in the ring. As is Cody for that matter.

Stone Cold Steve Austin nearly had me in tears of nostalgia. He's fuckin great and that match was great. Maybe a little too long but it was great. And Kevin Owens was incredible.

Night 2 was not as good but... Omos is the absolute shits and could fuck up drinking a glass of water. But he's so bad I kinda want to see more.

Jackass v Zahn... Zahn is great no matter what he does. I didn't like this and it was stupid and I don't like it on reflection but... The crowd loved it.

Aj v Edge was very good but I didn't like the finish very much.

I loved Theory v McAfee. I liked the aftermath but I don't like that Vince beat McAfee. I assume McAfee might wrestle very occasionally it at all?

Austin laughing his head off made my day.

The main event was similar to at least on other match they had before. The finish was flat but I also just saw something on twitter that roman really hurt his arm so.maybe they rushed the ending, not sure and might watch the end again tomorrow.

So overall lots of good stuff, I'm not a big follower of WWE and I'm not sure where they do next with some of this. And a lot of the highlights were nostalgia pops and celebs which might not be the best sign. Anyway, it certainly has given me more memories than any other recent WM.

Are there any must see matches?

I haven't watched in years, but last night I thought I'd give Wrestlemania a watch. I could only get through two matches before I turned it off. Is there a match or two that I should skip ahead to?

I didn't read this thread because I didn't want to know the results before watching, so any help would be appreciated.

Jim Cornette is nothing if not predictable:

“Let me remind everyone that this is the biggest wrestling event in the world, and Sami Zayn is bumping like a superball for a 50-something jackoff reality TV star in the biggest abomination of a parody of a wrestling match that has ever been held by anybody. AEW don’t have nothing on this bullsh*t, not only did they make the wrestling look like garbage, but they spent a lot of money in doing it.

We have come to find out that fat boy [Kevin] Steen and [El] Generico don’t mind making asses of themselves and doing the worst, offensive, unfunny bullsh*t and making fun of the wrestling business that they can as long as they are getting a big check, well f*ck you both! Especially Generico, at least Owens was in there with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, he got the better part of the deal. The f*cking red-headed, French Canadian here had to stooge for a goddamn brain-damaged moron.

So I am glad to see them doing well in their environment over there. [They said] My booking was cheesy? If somebody had suggested that they do this before they were making the big money, [they would say] ‘Oh how dare you?’ But they won’t put their money where their mouth is and say, ‘F*ck you. Keep your check, that’s embarrassing I won’t do it’.

An extra two zeros on the pay check will do that. I bet Cornette would have done the same for a fraction of the money.

Austin is always entertaining, but he probably should have skipped the mudhole stomping.  He was stomping so slow the mud was drying.  Geriatric geezer Vince doing an 80's tv jobber match with McAfee was just awful.  Show was good overall though.

I agree unless it's some bad ass like Tyson, but when the guys from Jackass are tougher than your roster it means your roster sucks.
