The best part is people screaming that billionaires shouldn't control the content on social media platforms...um, who controls them now, including on Twitter?  One is opening up speech, the others are shutting it down.  And even if he wasn't, how would that be any different?

Not coincidentally, Obama gave a speech last week in which he urged big tech to censor even more viewpoints.  He said he's pretty close to being a First Amendment absolutist, but...

He compared it to the FDA's ability to inspect meat packing plants.  You know, because reading someone's opinion that men can't get pregnant or that mRNA vaccines have demonstrable drawbacks is clearly as dangerous to one's health as contracting salmonella.

Fuck the FDA too.

Ha.  I deal with the FDA and I can't really argue.  The Food Safety Modernization Act of a few years ago was a completely unnecessary bit of legislation that, naturally, expanded the FDA's size and gave them far too much authority over private business.  I'm not against setting basic standards for the production and labeling of items that are ingested into one's body, but, as always, the people in charge are never satisfied with the reasonable.  An FDA inspector can now walk into your plant unannounced and determine that you're making products under conditions that are "potentially" deleterious and have you shut down.  No evidence is required that you've harmed a single person, just that the inspector that day didn't like the looks of your operating conditions.

This seems strange. Musk paid a premium price for this. It came to 1/5 his total wealth. Twitter is not a moneymaker in and of itself. What's his end game because on the surface it seems like at best a very mediocre business deal.

I dunno. Paying 44 billion so you can add and edit button seems like sound business to me.

Ultimately I think it gives him a forum to say whatever he wants without fear of reprisal or his tweets being removed.

All I've ever needed to know about Twitter is the first four letters spell TWIT.  I have no use for it and only read a tweet if it's posted here or somewhere else I frequent.  This is just his latest plaything and if he wants to spend his money on it, then fill your boots.

It's just a power play.  He has more money than he could ever spend in 50 lifetimes, but he gets off on pissing people off and can pretty much print money from his other businesses at will.  This gives him a seat at a different table.  The Twitter name is worth more than money.

Yes, I imagine he does like Twitter and doesn't like what it's become. But mischief is a big part of it.

It is funny to see videos on twitter if CNN coverage about how dangerous it could be if, for example, one party is silenced, or one party gets 'dialed up' while another is 'dialed back', as if this shit hasn't been happening since day 1.

Iirc, MBS slung up 1 of his billionaire cousins upside down by his ankles for a shakedown at a Ritz-Carlton, who I think was one of the biggest investors in Twitter

Maybe we can get him to bankroll Qaenos's Rocky Raymond project.

I have an issue with both.  It’s two guys in a dick measuring contest where we could be the ones getting pissed on.   Sometimes I feel like we are being toyed with by the Duke brothers like Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd in “Trading Places”.  All this bullshit over a $1 bet.
