I was combing thru transactions when I hit on this one: Nathan Peterman was signed to a 1 year deal by the Chicago Bears. Peterman has payed in 10 games, starting 4 of those, thrown for 573 yards, with an average just over 57 yds passing per game. 3 TD's, 12 picks and he's been sacked  10 times for 55 yds. Carrer QB rating is 34, conmpare this to one of the forum's favorite whipping boys Mark Sanchez who has a 73.2 or legendary bust Akili Smith who has a 52.8 QBR.

Peterman is bad, the only thing that could be said in his defense is that he was a 5th round pick and didnt cost his team a crapload of draft capital. He also scored well on the Wonderlic test with a 33; avg QB gets a 24 avg NFL player a 20. Not sure if there's any real meaning to that, Brady also had a 33 Vince Young a 6 but I digress.

Why is Peterman still in the league? He doesnt possess great size nor speed and has no attributes other than a well above average score on a test that should entice a team to sign him, at face value. Yet he's on his 3rd team now, while other far more talented veteran players sit and wait. I'm also certain that you could find a recent graduate who might actually have a small (infintesimal ?) chance of developing in to a serviceaable backup.

I understand he may be nothing more than a camp arm and (hopefully) among the final cuts by the Bears but it makes me wonder why he keeps getting the opportunities?

He isn’t beating out Justin Fields or Nick Foles for a roster spot

I'll bet that was more of a contract move. Cant figure out why they even had Foles on the roster last year. Was buried on the bench.
