Every year I wonder if they’ll think about breaking up the AL East because it’s been the strongest division for decades, generally speaking. And a team like Toronto would do much better in any other division too to add some variety to the races.

Probably. I know Yankees fans used to make the trip to Toronto but I don’t really see much of that anymore. I don’t know if Red Sox fans ever did. I don’t know how many more Blue Jays fans still buy tickets to see the Yankees. The stadium always looks dead compared to the old days, but I guess it’s a lot better against NY than against Detroit.

Jays had one shitty pitching perfomance over their 6 game road trip (3 shoutouts, one 1 run game, one 3 run game and one 8 run game) and still lost ground to the Yankees. This division is brutal.

This division is brutal. It's a shame because I thought that Toronto was going to become a juggernaut with Vlad, Bichette, Biggio, etc. all developing at the same time, but now I think their window of opportunity is already closing and they never made a dent in that division.

AL East is tough this year. Baltimore is in last place at 30-38 and they're like 8-10 games better than most of the other last place teams.

This division is brutal. The Jays are not as good as their fans believe. The sports media in Toronto had them not only winning the East, but the WS, based on last year's performance by the young Jays hitters. However last years stats were inflated, as the Jays played in 2 minor league ball parks before finally playing in the Skydome later in the season.

I haven't even thought of this, but with the explanded playoffs this year (three wild card teams in each league), it is conceivable that the AL East could have four teams in the playoffs. The Yankees obiously make it as division winners and then the three wild card teams (Toronto, Boston, Tampa). Based on the imbalanced schedule where division teams play each other 19 times a season, this is pretty amazing. I'd have to go through the schedule and see if it is even mathematically possible at this point (perhaps the divsion hasn't played as many games against each other yet and those are all coming up).

This division is brutal. I haven't watched many Jays games, hardly any really but when I do it's with the volume off and music playing. I absolutely can't stand Sportsnet and the endless fawning over the players.

Principal_Raditch wrote: Jays just fired Montoyo A little bit of strange timing as the Jays just snapped a losing streak and if the season ended today would've still made the playoffs as the 2nd Wild Card. I know expectations were much higher for Toronto the past 2 years though and Montoya finished as exactly a .500 manager (236-236 over parts of 4 seasons), but that's a really tough division to do much better than .500 in.
