Well I already did Italy and will probably be able to do a cruise that includes Alaska easily enough in the next couple of years. Galapagos is the most exotic location and the toughest to plan, so I’ll go with that.

Traveling itself is such an unpleasant experience these days. I just got back from Seattle and the plane ride was beyond brutal. If ever I travel cross country again to see my daughters I'll save my shekels and bite the big bullet for a first class seat even though they are the biggest ripoff known to man.

Principal_Raditch wrote: North Korea North Korea is definitely at the top of my list. I'd also love to go to Iran. I spent a couple weeks in Myanmar in 2002, before Aung Sun Suu Kyi was freed and there was a brief political liberalization. In fact you were still required to buy Foreign Exchange Coupons upon arrival, as foreigners were supposed to be shut out from using the local currency, the kyat. This meant that in theory you could only stay at certain hotels and eat at certain restaurants, as most places weren't authorized to accept them. I bribed the two guys at the airport counter with $5 to avoid purchasing them and thus supporting the junta. Once you got into downtown Yangon it was easy to find locals willing to exchange U.S. currency for kyat at an acceptable exchange rate. Overall, though, the country wasn't outwardly dystopian. But I do remember one time, when hiking in some woods with a local man in his 40s or 50s, and I asked him a question about the junta. He literally stopped and looked all around him before answering, as if we were in a bad spy movie. The amusing part of the dictatorship were the articles in the English language dailies. They were relentlessly anti-British. Yanks were of little concern, but if a story involved England there would be a good helping of vitriol directed their way. And yet, it's the only other country I've been to where all the signage used the Imperial system of measurement. EDIT: I just remembered one unpleasant moment. The future Mrs. KGB and I were on a long-distance bus that was stopped by a band of soldiers who then made everyone get off. We stayed in our seats using the language barrier as a defense. A few of them came on board and rifled through everyone's bags. I never found out who or what they were looking for but there was clearly some pilfering of personal items. I sat there angrily clutching my own bag on my lap to protect it. It was a stupid thing to do but they fortunately left us alone. Been to North Korea, so that's no longer on the list. Iran Nunavut South Georgia (the Antarctic island, not the Florida border)
